CHAPTER 21 - A PAINFUL PAST

Back at the field where Theresa is getting herself ready for the competition, she was not feeling at ease and more anxious as she looked around as if looking for someone, when suddenly Rupert came to wosh her luck before heading to his seat.

“Theresa! Who are you looking for?” Rupert asked teasingly.

“Well I'm looking for Cindy, where is she?” Theresa answered as she laughed faintly.

Rupert did not answer right away as he smirked and squinted an eye on her. “Cindy? Or you mean Sebastian? I mean, you know Cindy can’t come here today because of her exam right?” Rupert teased.

“Fine! Yeah I am looking for Sebastian he promised to come, he knows I can’t do well without him.” Theresa answered as he looked around but before Rupert can answer her and tease her more someone answered in his behalf.

“You don’t need him, I am here Theresa. I am a better cheerer than him.” Wyatt answered as Theresa looked his way.

“Oh hi Wyatt. Of course your presence means well too.” Theresa answered.

“Theresa, I'm pretty sure Sebastian will come maybe he is just stock with his dad for some work. Don’t worry, I will call him on my way to the bleachers.” Rupert answered as he glanced at Wyatt and squinted his eye to him.

“You don’t need to do that, I am sure he won’t answer you.” Wyatt answered back but Theresa was not minding them and was still very uneasy.

“It’s okay Rupert, maybe he is just busy I am sure he will make it anyway, he never broke a promise. I better head now to prepare. See you later guys!” Theresa answered as she looked around one last time and bid them farewell.

The moment Theresa left, Wyatt then gave Rupert a cold glare.

“Don’t call my brother, he is not needed here. I can manage Theresa better than him.”

“Oh Wyatt, you are indeed like a little kid and you still don’t play fairly. Unfortunately my loyalty is to your brother.” Rupert answered as he laughed and was ready to leave but Wyatt answered him back.

“Your call will be of no use, I assure you that. I know my dad very well. things like these are games for him, I am sure he did not let my brother leave the company. My brother is in the Lion’s den!” Wyatt spoke as he laughed, but Rupert did not mind him and continued to type a message for Sebastian despite knowing that what Wyatt just said is indeed true.

While everyone was settling down in the blecher and Theresa was getting herself ready, Sebastian just arrived at the campus with his head full of anger for his dad was about to explode from all that he has told him and with his heart broken with the fact that slapped him like a lightning bolt, when suddenly he received a message from Rupert.

“Bro, you better hurry. Theresa have been very restless looking for you and you know Cindy is not here. Worst Wyatt is already here as well, I hope what he said was not true.”

Reading the message Sebastian almost lost it, Theresa was accustomed to having him around in events like this in fact both of them were always together when not in class, their bond got so strong that somehow they became inseparable. Accepting the fact and reality of Sebastian’s future that is inevitable will be the hardest decision he will ever have to make especially now that it is going to involve Theresa.

“Damn this life! Why does it have to be us? Why does it have to be like this!” Sebastian thought to himself as he silently broke down.

It was almost Theresa’s turn, as she slowly ascended from behind the waiting area while bringing her horse.

She slowly look at the crowd in search for Sebastian. But somehow she slowly felt the cold feet when she did not see him especially that he has been the stone that kept her going to be where she is now in their team ranking.

But finally after one last glance, Theresa was able to spot Sebastian arrived and sat beside Rupert. She then waved at him, but to her surprise he only gave her a blank stare.

“He might have not seen me.” Theresa thought to herself as she sighed and finally rode her horse as she re-focused herself on the field and her horse.

As soon as the competition started, Theresa was able to finish one track after the other as she and her horse jumps gracefully from one fence to another.

Theresa successfully moved up from 1 level to another, she had been looking at Sebastian from time to time and somehow waited for him to go over her waiting area but to her disappointment he did not came and only stayed still on the bleacher stand.

Theresa was eager to finish soon and to achieve the 1st place, so she did everything in her might and instilled all the trainings she went through, finally after the last level, Theresa was able to indeed 1st in the entire show and she could not be any happier and excited for the next year’s shows, or so she thought.

Theresa was then swarmed up by her team and coach after she was awarded, but her mind was only to one and that is to go to Sebastian who was waiting by the stand together with Rupert. She then excused herself and happily walk towards where they were.

Wyatt was the first to congratulate her as he stopped her midway.

“Theresa! You were so good! Congratulations you did very well, let’s celebrate!” Wyatt exclaimed as Theresa smiled at him.

“Thanks Wyatt. Uhmm- I’ll talk to you later, I need to go to Sebastian.” Theresa answered as she hurriedly waved by and preceded to walking.

“Oh okay then.” Wyatt mumbled softly as he felt insulted, but remained calm and watched Theresa from afar.

The moment Theresa neared Sebastian and Rupert, she immediately ran towards him with all smile as she immediately threw herself to him and embraced Sebastian.

“I did it Sebastian! I did it! I finished first and you arrived just in time!” Theresa spoke happily as she clung unto Sebastian.

“I know. Congrats.” Sebastian answered softly but rather in a cold tone.

Theresa sensed the indifference in Sebastian, so she slowly let go of him and looked up at him.

“Is there something wrong? Are you not feeling well?” Theresa asked worriedly as she checked his forehead and held his hands.

But Sebastian remained cold to her as he pulled his hand away and took a step backward. Rupert and Wyatt who witnessed it all was suddenly taken aback with Sebastian’s gesture towards Theresa, in fact though both did not made announved themselves to be officially dating each other but they were already talked about by everyone to be dating already. Sebastian loves to hold Theresa’s hand and Theresa always give Sebastian random hugs, so the sight of them doing any of those wasn’t new to all of them.

Theresa was in fact more than shocked with how Sebastian treated her. She felt hurt as her heart started to beat very fast in worry.

“Sebastian? Is there a problem?” Theresa asked slowly.

Sebastian took a deep breath and answered. “Theresa, we need to end all these.”

“We need to end what Sebastian?” Theresa asked confusedly as she could not figure out what Sebastian meant while trying to hold back tears.

“We need to stop seeing each other, we need to stop being together, we have to go on our separate lives without one another.” Sebastian answered as he looked away and as he tried his best to calm his emotions down.

Theresa took a step back in shock as she covered her mouth with what she was hearing. As she started to tremble and unconsciously her tears started to fall.

“What do you mean? Is there something wrong Sebastian? Are you mad at me? What did I do?” Theresa asked those questions over and over again while her tears kept falling but Sebastian never answered her anything.

Theresa held Sebastian’s hand and begged for an answer but Sebastian kept pushing her away.

“Theresa stop, let’s just stop it here now, please. There can never be us, we can never be good for each other. Don't make it hard for me.” Sebastian answered as his heart were ripped slowly with every word he said to her and the sight of Theresa crying was the hardest part for him. He never wished in his entire life to make Theresa cry and be miserable like this.

“That’s not true. Even our parents think differently with what you are saying.” Theresa answered as she sniffed in between. “Did I made you mad? Well- I’m sorry to whatever I did wrong, please Sebastian, please- don't do this." Theresa added but Sebastian stopped her midway.

“I’m sorry Theresa but I need to leave.” Sebastian spoke as he slightly pushed Theresa who was holding unto his shirt and turned around to leave, leaving Theresa in shock, hurt and confused while she cried her heart out.

Rupert and Wyatt who witnessed everything were as shocked and confused as Theresa. Rupert glanced at Sebastian as he ran towards Theresa who was sobbing. Wyatt on the other hand came over to her while dialing Emily’s number.

“Theresa-“ Rupert spoke but did not know what to say.

“Rupert, wh-what did I do? Wh- what ha-happen to him?” Theresa asked and soon Wyatt arrived to her side as well.

“Theresa calm down” Wyatt spoke as he looked at Rupert. “Your best friend is an i***t and stupid!”

Rupert did not answer right away as he shook his head, not in disagreement to Wyatt but in dismay to Sebastian. Since Rupert was Sebastian’s best friend and assistant Rupert have also gotten close to Theresa and the happenings now made him confused as well and mad for Theresa.

“Take care of Theresa, I will go to Sebastian first. Have you called Emily?”

“Yes, she’s on her way. Go leave!” Wyatt answered angrily as he looked at Theresa and gave her a hug as he tried to coax her.

“Wyatt- “ Theresa spoke softly but wasn’t able to continue.

“Theresa please calm down, let me bring you back to your place.” Wyatt answered but Theresa break off from the embrace and wiped the tears from her eyes.

“No, it’s okay. I- I have to go too." Theresa answered as she shook her head.

“Where are you going? Emily is on her way here.”

“I’ll find my w-way back, please-please j-just leave m-me a-alone first.” Theresa spoke as she stuttered while the tears kept falling from her eyes.

“Theresa-“

Wyatt tried to stop her for the last time, but Theresa turned around and ran off leaving her trophy and medal on the ground.

Theresa did not really know where to go, everything happened to quickly, she wasn’t prepared and it caught her off guard pretty badly.

She was broken, hurt and confused. She was a mess and in a very painful mess. It broke her heart into so many pieces and she does not know what to do, since the only person who she have depended on and the person she loved the most suddenly rejected her and pushed her away.
