CHAPTER 20 - THE PAIN OF THE PAST

After the very long and tiring day Theresa had previously, the next day, Theresa woke up quiet late.

She slowly opened her eyes as she sat up on the bed. She looked around to an unfamiliar room but somehow felt at home. She then glanced to the other side of the bed and felt it very cold it seemed no one even slept there.

Theresa got up as she looked around the room.

“This must be the master’s bedroom.” Theresa mumbled to herself. “Then he must have carried me from the car going here. But where is he?” Theresa added as she went inside the bathroom.

She then freshened up herself, and the longer she stayed inside the bathroom the more she realized it was truly the master’s bedroom, the bedroom they will be sharing together, since everything seemed to be prepared in pair or sets.

Another door was inside the bathroom as it leads to the walk-in closet and her dresser where all her clothes and accessories are neatly arranged and piled as Sebastian’s clothes were on the other side as well.

It was smaller than the one she had in their mansion but enough for her daily clothes and some formal gowns.

“Who am I kidding! Sebastian would never think to prepare all these for me. I bet mom and Auntie Daisy were the one who prepared all these in his behalf.” Theresa remarked as she felt sad in her heart since she indeed wished for him to care for her the way he used to do, but that's wishful thinking, or so she think it is.

The moment Theresa got down, Mr. Jones immediately spotted her as he went over to greet Theresa.

“Ms. Theresa! It’s so nice to finally see you back here! I miss you!” Mr. Jones greeted her as Theresa gave her an embrace.

“It’s nice to see a familiar face here as well Hank. Please call me Theresa, I told you before don’t be too polite towards me.”

The cleaners who were nearby where suddenly taken aback by Theresa’s response to Mr. Jones, and it wasn’t mere for show but truly a genuine act since it was very spontaneous.

“Oh, you know I can’t call you that. Especially now that you are married to Sebastian.” Mr. Jones answered as he paused and smiled at Theresa while holding her hand. “You look very lovely my dear.”

“Thank you Hank!” Theresa answered politely. “By the way Hank, did Sebastian left already?”

“Yes, he left very early. He said he has a meeting and he reminded me to accommodate you when you wake up." Mr. Jones paused and sighed deeply.

"Ms. Theresa, I’m sorry about that kid. You both just got married and yet he is out to work right away.” Mr. Jones answered as he felt very sorry for Theresa.

Theresa smiled sweetly at him and spoke. “It’s okay, I understand. If I have to wait then I would, if I have to adjust then I would. No need to feel sorry for me Hank.”

Hearing Theresa’s response made Mr. Jones more hurt for Theresa, but he also knows deep down Sebastian must have a very good reason for acting that way towards her and somehow he is now more eager to find out the root cause of it all, how Sebastian became cold and ruthless to Theresa.

Later that day after Theresa got familiarized with the house help they have around them and the house itself, she immediately asked for Emily to find her in the receiving area.

As soon as Emily got inside, Theresa was casually standing in front of the display shelves looking at some photos.

“Ms. Theresa?” Emily suddenly called for her.

“It amazes me, as I looked around it seemed it has been thoroughly thought of to incorporate both of our likes in this house. It seemed to be prepared and re-organize for me. It was never like this the last time I was here.” Theresa spoke as Emily walked closer to her.

“I did not expect to see our old photo’s here. These were some of our happy memories together and I can't believe I am already married to the man I love the most.” Theresa added as she fainted a smile while she choked as she tried to stop her tears from falling.

“Ms. Theresa, I was with you ever since you studied at Country S. I saw how you both were so close to each other from the start. If I may ask, what happen?” Emily asked curiously.

“I don’t know too, but 1 thing was for sure. It was sudden and it hurt like hell.” Theresa added as tears finally fell down.

FLASHBACK: COLLEGE DAYS

“So how is your 1st week there in your dad’s company?” Theresa asked casually on the other line while Sebastian was having his lunch on his new office.

“I thought something bad happened to you again.” Sebastian answered as he laughed faintly.

“Hey! I don’t call you on emergencies alone. Can’t I ask how you’ve been?” Theresa retaliated as Sebastian laughed.

“I know, I was just kidding since you often call me at night and when it's in this kind of hours it's always an emergency." Sebastian remarked as he laughed.

"But yeah, I am doing good. Dad is giving me hard time though, not that I can’t handle it’s just that he has been pressuring me a lot." Sebastian added.

“Oh I see, but I know you. You can do it!”

“Theresa, did Wyatt come to you recently?” Sebastian suddenly asked curiously since he has been away from the campus for over a week already.

Ever since Theresa got into college, Wyatt, Sebastian’s younger brother have been pestering around him and expressing his feelings and intention to Theresa boldly and Sebastian was not liking it at all, especially if he is away from her. Sebastian somehow became too possessive of Theresa.

“Wyatt? No. Did you asked him to see me? I mean he texted me asking if I want to watch his game, but I have something to do after class, so I declined politely.”

“That’s good.” Sebastian softly mumbled.

“What did you say?”

“Nothing. I mean yes do whatever you need to do first.”

“Do you and Wyatt have a misunderstanding again?” Theresa asked curiously.

Though Wyatt have been very expressive with his feelings towards Theresa, but Theresa never took it at heart and just treats Wyatt like a brother to him.

“No, not really. Just try to stay away from him.”

Theresa suddenly laughed hearing Sebastian’s weird request. “How can I stay away from someone who is always all over the place?”

Since Sebastian can’t express to Theresa his real motive, so he opted to change the topic instead.

“Anyway, I’ll try my best to be back on campus early to see your last competition this year.”

“You should! You never missed any of those, besides you were the one who was always there to accompany me in my trainings.”

Theresa have always dreamt of becoming an Equestrian Jumper, and Sebastian was the one who is responsible to make it into a reality. He booked Theresa the best coach and he was also the one who asked Theresa’s parent’s permission to allow her to become one. And ever since Theresa excelled greatly and Sebastian was always there for him from training down to competitions.

“I won’t keep you for too long now, you might have some other things to do. Eat up well okay and call me tonight too?” Theresa added.

“I will call you and will always will. Take care Theresa and see you soonest!”

“Can’t wait to see you! Bye Sebastian.” Theresa answered back as she cancelled the call.

Days went by quickly and it was finally the day of Theresa’s competition.

While Sebastian was about to go to his dad’s office, his phone suddenly beeped.

“Sebastian! I’ll see you later okay? Don’t forget!” It was a message of reminder from Theresa.

“Don’t worry, I will. I just need to give some documents to dad and I will head there directly.” Sebastian typed as he pressed send and went on to his dad’s office.

The moment Sebastian arrived in his dad’s office Sebastian was immediately greeted with additional workload.

“I need you to stay longer today, I will have a meeting and I want you to sit in since I will be leaving for Nation A tonight, you will take over for the time being you are being trained.” Mr. Smith instructed without even looking at Sebastian.

Sebastian immediately got irritated with his dad’s instruction since he had other plans for today and it was a weeken as well.

“Dad, it’s a weekend and it’s my day off remember.”

Mr. Smith suddenly stopped with what he was reading and looked up at Sebastian.

“Weekend? Day off?” Mr. Smith remarked as he laughed sarcastically.

“Son! We don’t know those things when we run a multimillion business how much more if you will be taking over the Wilson’s empire. We don’t have the luxury of Weekends, holidays and especially day off. We are to be available 24/7, we are Businessmen and not some pain in the ass like your brother.” Mr. Smith added as he looked at Sebastian in the eye.

“We are not even sure if Theresa would even agree to that damn agreement, besides dad I have some important place to go today, I can’t stay longer.” Sebastian retaliated as he tried to explain his self.

“Whether she agrees or not is not a question to ponder for because it is her dad who requested it. And what could be more important than me introducing you to the board?” Mr. Smith answered as he started to get angry.

“It’s Theresa’s competition today. I promised her I will be there!”

“Sebastian, listen to yourself! We don’t have time for puppy love, you don’t have time for those silly things! Look at me! I am very busy with our business how much more if you will handle the Wilson’s empire. You won’t have time for love, it will delay you in all our plans and goals.”

“Dad that’s not how it works. It may be for you, but for me this is way important than any of those.”

But Sebastian’s dad only laughed and mocked at him. “Sebastian, remember the business we currently have was started by me alone and I made it grew into what it is now, do you think I had time for those when I was your age?! I gave your mom, you and your brother everything you need and want with bo questions asks thats it! Thats our role to provide, nothing more nothing less. Now it’s your time to take over it and you just want to watch a show instead of learning how this all works? Do you even think Theresa’s dad will want you to do such silly things over looking after his companies? They also started from scratch like us and you wish to bring it all down with your childish games and events?!”

Sebastian did not say anything as he kept quiet and bowed his head down.

“A fatherly reminder Sebastian, think it all through. It’s different with you and this time. You are from a family of businessman and most especially you are no longer a kid, we don’t do games anymore, we mean business this time.” Sebastian’s dad paused and looked back to the document he was reading earlier. “I will let you leave today, but this will be the last time! Tell your little lover to wait until you both get married! In fact she still can’t boss you around once you 2 marry, look at your mom she is doing well and fine at home with the way we have been.” Sebastian’s dad added.

"Mom is fine? It was hell for her!" Sebastian thought angrily.

Sebastian did not say anything as he put down the documents he was holding and immediately left his dad without saying a thing.
