The Redmoon Pack

I know I shouldn’t have, but the thought was just to tempting to let go. Zara, my wolf, has always been a bad influence on me. She whispers tempting ideas in a way she knows I will go a long with. Tonight’s idea was crossing the territory line into the Redclaw pack. ‘Redclaw pack? Who ever named the pack could have come up with a better name’ I internally tell Zara. The Redclaw pack and my pack, the moonstone pack, are allies. We are welcomed onto each other’s land and often have events which combine the packs. So crossing the territory line is no biggie which is how Zara sold me on the idea, however the problem is I’m technically breaking curfew. But rumour has it the Redclaw pack has the most extravagant flowers on their territory that are said to have been blessed by the moon goddess her self and glow a vibrant blue under a full moon. Zara thought it would be a good idea to see if these flowers are real. So that’s why I am walking along the river that acts as a divider between our packs territories. Did I tell someone where I was going? No. Should I have? Yes, especially being a full moon. Who knows what young wolves are turning for the first time and may loose control. Our first shift is always on a full moon and after that we can shift anytime we want. ‘Just keep going, they are ment to be just down the east side along the river’ Zara commented to me as my walking slowed. Zara has been actively with me since I first shifted at 14. Before that I knew I had a wolf and I knew her name but she would pop in and out of my head briefly, it was as if she wasn’t strong enough and our bond wasn’t strong enough for her to be there all the time and then we shifted and that changed everything. I’m now 17 so Zara has been properly with me for 3 years and has got me into trouble more times than I can count. I know it takes two to tango as they say, so I cant blame her but she gives me the ideas and I know I shouldn’t but curiosity gets the better of me and I listen to her. There was a crunching sound, like someone stepping on dried leaves and I turn sharply to find a brown wolf with bright red eyes staring at me from behind the trees. The wolf was larger than your standard werewolf so it has to be either strong or holding a title. “s**t” I said aloud followed by a silent ‘s**t’ just aimed at Zara. ‘What do we do?’ I asked Zara standing still like I had frozen. The brown wolf just continued to watch me. ‘Turn and run’ was Zara’s clever idea. I know I shouldn’t run because then the wolf will chase me and then have the advantage of already having shifted. I couldn’t tell who the wolf was. I don’t know if they are someone we know or a newly shifted wolf. I start backing away slowly. The brown wolf starts the edge closer and I can see it more clearly. He has soft brown fur, he is the most beautiful wolf I have seen. I am captivated by the way the moon light dances of his fur and I get a faint whiff of cloves. ‘I’ve smelt that scent before’ I tell Zara but I can’t put my finger on it, I don’t remember where I smelt it. I see a glint in the wolfs eye as he brings his lips up and snarls at me. we can’t mind link as you can only communicate with your own pack that way so there’s no telling what his wanting unless he was to shift back to human form but I can tell what he is wanting. Me, off his territory. I gulp then as quick as I can I turn and start running back along the river. The wolf leaps out and starts chasing me. There’s no way I can put run a wolf in my human form, ‘Zara, are u ready we have to shift’ I tell her as the wolf is on our heels. I take a few more steps and feel the shift happening. My clothes are being torn apart but I am determined to keep running through the shift, I don’t have time to stand still and undress. Several more seconds past and I’m on all fours having shift to my beautiful light grey wolf, I give Zara full control begging her to get us out of here. We looked to our left to see the river, we aren’t going to make it to the bridge before the brown wolf catches us. ‘No Zara don’t do it just keep running we will be fine’ I coax her, knowing she has seen a narrowing of the river and is planning to jump across. She ignores me as we get closer, she increases our pace with larger strides and leaps as hard as she can. With a thud we land. The brown wolf didn’t try to follow he just stood on the opposite side of the river staring at us. Zara let’s me have control again and we stand there panting. We walk up closer to the river and stare down the wolf watching us. I want to know why he chased us away, he knew we weren’t rouges as more wolves would have come to help protect their land. He must know we are from the Moonstone pack. I give him one more glance over and see him raise his wolf eye brows at us and I turn and run back through the pack territory to my house. We enjoy the run, we don’t get out enough. Lately I’ve been busy with my school work, exams are coming up so all my spare time is spend studying. I reach the large oak wood door and shift back to my human form. I’m well aware that I’m now standing here naked whilst I creep inside. I quietly walk into the kitchen and grab a drink before walking back to my bedroom. My bedroom is on the ground floor whilst my parents and brothers rooms are upstairs. Once in my room I grab a over sized t-shirt and put it on before jumping into bed. I fall asleep thinking about the gorgeous brown wolf.
