Chapter 3
Gianna's pov
"So that one time, we were together and he literally pushed me in the pool,” Alec said I burst out laughing.
I had finished my food and we were in the living room while he told me about his teenage life with Nikolai.
“And then I….”
“What’s going on here?” Alec was interrupted by Niko.
“Oh I was just having fun with Giana”
“I can see that but I thought you said you wanted water and you have been gone for almost an hour,” he said angrily
“Okay, fine I’ll head back to the office. See ya later Gigi” he smiled.
“No, we’re heading out we have something to handle,” Nikolai said making them change directions and head out
I spent the afternoon lounging by the pool, trying to enjoy the warm sunshine and peaceful surroundings.
The mansion was vast and opulent, but it felt empty and isolating.
As I floated on my back in the pool, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I turned to see Nikolai and Alexander walking towards me.
Nikolai’s eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of me in the pool. “What are you doing?” He growled
I felt a surge of fear in his tone. “I…l was just trying to relax,” I stammered.
Alec looked uncomfortable but Nikolai’s expression only darkened eyeing me up and down. “You’re not here to relax”, he spat. “you’re here to be my wife”.
I felt a sting from his words, and tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. “I…I know,” I whispered.
But Nikolai wasn’t finished. “And what is this?” He demanded, his voice rising again “You’re parading around in a bikini, in front of my staff and my second in command?”
I felt my face burn from embarrassment. “I….I didn’t think it would be a problem”, I stammered looking down
Nikolai’s eyes blazed with anger. “You didn’t think?” He repeated. “You never think, do you?”
And with that, he turned and stormed off, leaving me feeling humiliated and tearful.
Alec looked at me with a mixture of sympathy and discomfort. “I’m sorry Gianna,” he said quietly. “He’s just stressed”.
But I couldn’t respond. I was too busy trying to hold back tears.
I got up feeling groggy and disoriented. The events of the previous day still lingered in my mind, and I couldn’t shake off the feeling of hatred and humiliation.
As I rolled over in bed, I noticed that the door of Nikolai's bedroom was slightly ajar. I got out of bed and walked over to the door, pushing it open slowly.
That’s when I saw her. A woman, blond looking as sexy as a model only she was modeling in my husband’s shirt.
Oh when did I get this possessive
I felt a surge of anger and jealousy. Who was this woman, and why was she wearing Nikolai’s shirt?
Not wanting to cause a scene I just strolled out to the kitchen wanting a glass of water as I had a headache from crying yesterday.
“Who are you?” I heard someone speak from behind me as I was about to open the fridge.
“I’m Nikolai’s wife”, I said my voice firm.
The woman let out a laugh. “Oh you’re the little wife,” she said her voice dripping with contempt.
I was little compared to her as she looked at least 5 ft 9 while I was 5 ft 3.
“I’ve heard so much about you,” she said with a sarcastic smile.
I felt a sting from her words, but I tried to keep my composure. “What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
But before she could respond, Nikolai appeared out of nowhere. “Lena, what’s going on?” He asked his voice calm and unbothered.
Lena so that was her name
“This little wife of yours was just me what I was doing here,” Lena said her eyes flashing anger.
Nikolai turned to me his expression dismissive. “Gianna go back to bed this doesn’t concern you”
I felt a surge of anger at his words. This didn’t concern me. Was he kidding me?
But before I could respond, Lena turned to him and pouted while grabbing his arm. “Let’s get back to bed baby”
And he didn’t retaliate, he didn’t take her hands off him, he let her hold her and he willingly walked away with her.
I watched them go, feeling a mix of emotions. Anger, jealousy, hurt. I didn’t know what to do or how to process what I had seen and how I felt about it
The rest of the day was a blur. I spent most of it in my room, trying to avoid Nikolai and Lena.
At noon Mary had brought my food to my room and I was glad she understood me.
I suddenly heard a knock on my door and it was Mary telling me to come down for dinner and that Lena had left
I walked down the stairs slowly and went to the table loving the smell of the food Mary had made and I began eating immediately.
I heard heavy footsteps approaching and I already guessed who they were from and his smell clouded the room.
He smelled like wood, Dry wood, and spices with a touch of smoke and alcohol.
“Get ready for tomorrow,” he said, his voice firm. “We’re attending a ball”.
I looked up at him, feeling a surge of resentment. “A ball?“ I repeated. “What’s the occasion?”
Nikolai shrugged. “ Just a business event. You’ll need to dress accordingly”
I nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. I was angry with Nikolai, but at the same time curious about the ball.
As Nikolai turned to leave, I called out to him. “Nikolai”.
He turned back to me, his expression questioning.
“What’s going on with Lena?” I asked my voice firm
Nikolai’s expression changed, his eyes narrowing. “Lena is none of your concern”, he said, his voice cold.
And with that he turned and walked out of the room, leaving me feeling frustrated and confused.
I spent the rest of the evening in a daze, trying to process the events of the day. Nikolai’s dismissal of my concerns about Lena had left me feeling frustrated and confused.
As I got ready for bed, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off. Why was Nikolai being so secretive about Lena? And what was the nature of their relationship?
The next morning I woke up feeling anxious and unsure. I knew that I had to get ready for the ball but I didn’t know what to expect.
As I was getting dressed, Mary came to my room with a box smiling “Niko asked me to bring this to you” she said her eyes sparkling.
I took it from her and opened it to see a stunning red dress. Feeling a mix of emotions I knew that the dress was beautiful but I knew that Nikolai had chosen it for me made me feel uneasy
As I put on the dress, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being dressed up like a doll. Nikolai was controlling every aspect of my life and it was suffocating me.
As I descended the stairs he was waiting for me in the foyer. He looked stunning in his black tuxedo, hair slicked back and shirt fitted like it was sewn in him.
He sized me up and down. Looking everywhere but my eyes. “Get to the car,” he said coldly before walking off.
As we drove to the ball I couldn’t help but feel a sense of trepidation. What would the night bring?
When we arrived at the ball, Nikolai stepped out and held out his hand for me. Cameras were flashing so he brought me closer to his chest
He felt he felt like I belonged there in his arms and his warm touch.
Well, that was short-lived as we stood before the door.
“Behave” was all he said before the doors were pushed open.
The ballroom like its term is extravagant and carved with details that only a few of the wealthiest would have been able to build.
Large arched windows line the far wall, draped in dark velvet. The high ceilings are vaulted and littered with elaborate carvings, designs that compliment the large white pillars positioned around the room.
The space is immersed in opulence, everything from the marbled floors to the expensive paintings on the walls.
Artwork that guests are fawning over oblivious to the danger lurking beneath this history landmine
I mean it’s a room full of mafias
Soft classical music is played by a woman on a harp in the center of the room, guests watching her like a price of art on display. A large bar sits at the end of the ballroom, while desserts and hors d’overs are served by various uniformed servers.
I don’t realize he's talking to someone until I catch the words eligible and bachelor, terms I can only guess are describing the Russian tyrant.
“And who’s this beauty by your side” I hear the man question and immediately Nikolai’s hand grabs my waist and I instinctively go stiff
Then I noticed him rubbing soothing circles on my lower back through the fabric.
The man looked friendly and I couldn’t help but smile
My wife” Nikolai answered with a straight face.
“Oh the bachelor has been tied down,” he said with a smirk
“Excuse my manners….? He waited for my name
“Gianna” I blushed.
“Oh lovely to meet you Gianna I am Leonel William Capo of the American mafia,” he said taking my hand and kissing it with a smile.
I swear I could feel Nikolai’s hands shake behind my back but I didn’t understand why.
“I think my wife has had enough of your drama for the night Leonel,” Nikolai said with clenched teeth.
“And it’s Mrs Volkov to you,” he said angrily while walking away. And pulling him with me angrily.
