Chapter 57

“Julia!” Atlas’ voice snapped me back to reality. I slammed my feet against the brakes for the millionth time. My heart raced as my hands shook around the steering. I was trapped, I was set up and I fell right into it. My grip on the steering tightened, I glanced at Atlas, he was speeding alongside me, eyes wide as he yelled at the top of his lungs. “Julia! What’s wrong? Why aren’t you stopping?” How could I tell him? From the side mirror, I saw several police cars following us while Atlas struggled to keep his eyes on the road and me. “The brakes, Atlas…” My breath caught in my throat as my brain stopped working. “It’s not… it’s not working!” Atlas’ face paled almost immediately and for a brief moment, I overtook him. My eyes widened as I noticed the roads were not familiar.
