Chapter 23

1857 Words

Eliza Today is the day of Kayla’s funeral, and it feels like my world has come to a screeching halt. First, my dad died, then my mom, and now Kayla is gone. Tears run down my chin, and Kai grabs my hand as we watch Kayla’s urn slowly make its descent. We stand there in silence as the container is submerged in her final resting place. The whole neighborhood is here in mourning, and every single person is weeping without restraint. Several people are reminiscing on how wonderful of a werewolf Kayla was, but all I can feel is a suffocating sadness. Every hug I’ve received has only served as a reminder that Kayla won’t ever embrace me ever again. Even with the comforting words from others, the pain in my heart still remains heavy, knowing I will never have her warmth, love, or comfort again
