Manhattan secrets
MANHATTAN SECRETS Episode 1: The Deal The city that never sleeps was screaming. 11 PM. 5th Avenue. Horns, heels, and a million neon lights. Inside a tiny studio in SoHo, _Lyra Blake_ poured her third coffee. Sketches were everywhere. Silk. Velvet. And one dress — _“Midnight in SoHo.”_ The one that was supposed to change everything. She was 26. Three years ago she’d come from Ohio with $400 and a dream. Now? Her brand _Blake Atelier_ was blowing up on i********:. Her bank account? Still crying. Her phone buzzed. _Unknown_: _Voss Tower. 40th Floor. 9AM. Don’t be late. - D.V_ Her heart stopped. _Damian Voss._ 34. Self-made billionaire. CEO of Voss Empire. Real estate. Tech. Now luxury. One word from him could make or break you in New York. “Don’t be late,” she muttered. “Like I’m his assistant.” --- The next morning. Voss Tower was a glass monster in the middle of Manhattan. Marble floors. Cold air. Money. “Ms. Blake. 40th floor.” The elevator opened. And there he was. _Damian Voss._ Black tailored suit. No tie. Hair slightly messy like he’d just come from war. Grey eyes that cut right through her. “You’re two minutes late.” “Traffic.” “In New York, we don’t do excuses. We do solutions.” He turned. On the table — her sketches. The private ones. The ones only 200 people had seen. “How—” “My team tracks every rising designer, Ms. Blake. Your _Midnight in SoHo_ is going viral. If it’s launched right.” He slid a folder across the table. _CONTRACT._ _$2 Million Investment. 40% Equity. Voss Empire x Blake Atelier._ Lyra couldn’t breathe. She flipped to Clause 8: _All final designs must be approved by D. Voss._ “So this isn’t a partnership. It’s a takeover.” Damian smirked. First time. “In business, the only difference between takeover and partnership is PR.” Silence. A helicopter roared past the window. “I need time to think.” “You have 24 hours. After that, this offer goes to someone else. Talent isn’t rare in New York.” As she reached the door, he called out: “The Voss Foundation Gala. Tomorrow night. The Met. If you want the deal, be there. No press.” Her hands were shaking. $2 Million. Or her freedom. --- That night. The Met Museum. Chandeliers. Celebrities. Champagne. Cameras flashing. Lyra wore a black gown. Her own design. Simple. Deadly. “Excuse me. You must be the girl.” Blonde. Red dress. Diamonds. _Eleanor Voss._ His fiancée. “I heard Damian’s investing in a designer. Cute. I hope you understand business. Not just sewing dresses.” Lyra smiled. “I don’t sew dresses, Ms. Voss. I build empires.” Eleanor’s eyes narrowed. Then she walked away. Damian appeared seconds later. Like he’d been watching. “You came.” “You told me to.” He led her to a quiet corner. “Decision?” “Take out Clause 8. Or no deal.” “No.” “Then no deal.” They were inches apart. The air was thick. Suddenly the lights dimmed. “And now… our new partner announcement—” Damian’s phone buzzed. His face went cold. He grabbed Lyra’s hand. “Come with me. Now.” --- In the service elevator. “He leaked my designs,” Damian said. “Your entire _Midnight_ collection. Just posted online.” Lyra’s phone exploded. 30 missed calls. “If we don’t fix this by tomorrow, your brand is dead. And so is my reputation.” Basement parking. He tossed her his car keys. “Go to your studio. Find out who did this. I’ll handle PR.” “Why help me? You can walk away.” Damian leaned in close. So close she could smell his cologne. “Because I think you can change this business. And because I hate losing.” His fingers brushed hers for one second. “7AM. My office. Bring proof.” --- 3 AM. Her studio. The leak came from her ex-intern. Hired by Eleanor’s assistant. 7 AM. Voss Tower. Damian looked exhausted. Sleeves rolled up. Dark circles. She placed the laptop on his desk. He read it in two minutes. Picked up the phone. “Legal. Press release. Fire Eleanor’s assistant. Today.” Then he looked at her. “Sign the contract?” “What about Clause 8?” He picked up a pen. Crossed it out. “Don’t need it. I want a partner. Not a puppet.” She signed. Damian smiled. A real one. “Welcome to Voss Empire, Ms. Blake. We have 3 weeks until Fashion Week.” As she left, her phone rang. Unknown number. A voice whispered: _“Congrats on the deal. But remember… in New York, friendship is expensive. And enemies? Even more.”_ Click. The elevator doors closed. The deal was done. The war had just begun. To be continued...
