THE RAGE OF A MATE

1062 Words
As Sophia continued walking, her mind drifted back to the conversation with Chris' mate. She knew that things were going to get even more difficult now that she was spending time with Adam. She shook her head, angry at herself for allowing the drama to consume her. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice call out her name. "Sophia!" She turned around to see Chris walking towards her, a concerned expression etched on his face. "Are you okay? I've been trying to reach you." Sophia forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just hanging out with a friend." Chris' expression softened a little. "Okay, I just worry about you sometimes. Especially with my mate around." Sophia looked away, feeling guilty again. She knew that she was hiding something from Chris, and it was only going to get harder as she spent more time with Adam. "I know," she murmured. "I'll be careful." Chris reached out to touch her arm, but Sophia flinched away. She could feel the guilt and shame building up inside her. Suddenly, she found herself blurting out, "Chris, I can't do this anymore." Chris looked confused. "Do what?" Sophia took a deep breath before saying, "This...us. I can't keep pretending that everything's okay when it's not. I'm tired of feeling like I'm not good enough for you. And I'm tired of all the drama and conflict with your mate." Chris looked hurt, but also somewhat resigned. "Sophia, I know things have been difficult, but I care about you. And I want us to work things out." Sophia shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Chris. I don't think there's anything left to work out. I need some time to figure things out for myself." Chris looked defeated but nodded his head. "Okay. I understand." Sophia watched as he walked away, feeling a sense of sadness shroud her. She couldn't believe that it had ended like this. Despite all the drama and conflict, she had really cared for Chris. But now, things were different. She couldn't erase her feelings for Adam or the way he made her feel. Just as she was about to walk away, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around to see Adam standing there, concern etched on his face. "Are you okay?" he asked softly. Sophia took a deep breath, meeting his gaze. "Yeah, I think I will be. Thanks to you." Adam smiled, pulling her into a tight hug. "I'm here for you, Sophia. Always." Sophia closed her eyes, relishing in Adam's warm embrace. For a moment, she forgot about everything else and felt safe in his arms. But just as quickly as the moment came, it was shattered by the sound of tires screeching. Sophia pulled away from Adam, her heart pounding with fear. She could see a car hurtling towards them, its headlights blinding her. "Adam!" she screamed, but it was too late. The car smashed into him, sending him sprawling onto the ground. Sophia felt her own body get flung backwards as the car swerved into her. She hit the pavement hard, her vision blurring as she sought to get back up. And that's when she saw it: the face of Chris' mate leering down at her from the driver's seat of the car. Sophia's heart sank as she realized who it was. Chris' mate had always been jealous of her relationship with Adam, and she had threatened her before. But Sophia didn't have time to dwell on it. She had to get up and help Adam. Despite the pain shooting through her body, she crawled over to where he lay and checked his pulse. It was weak, but he was still alive. She could hear sirens in the distance, and she hoped they would arrive soon. But in the meantime, she had to stay conscious and keep Adam alive. As she tended to Adam's injuries, she couldn't help but wonder why Chris' mate had done this. Was it a targeted attack on her? Or was it just a horrible accident? Sophia didn't have the answers yet, but one thing was for sure: she wouldn't rest until she got to the bottom of it. Days passed and Adam slowly recovered from his injuries. Sophia was hesitant to leave his side, but she knew she had to confront Chris about his mate's involvement. She found him at their usual meeting spot in the woods and marched up to him, her anger simmering just below the surface. "What the hell happened, Chris?" Sophia demanded, her voice shaking with emotion. Chris looked at her with confusion, "What are you talking about?" "Don't play dumb with me. Your mate attacked Adam and me. Why would she do such a thing?" Chris sighed heavily, "I'm sorry, Sophia. I had no idea she was capable of something like that. She was jealous of your relationship with Adam, but I never thought she would resort to violence." "That's not good enough," Sophia retorted, "She could have killed us. I need to know why she did it." Chris hesitated before finally speaking, "She's been struggling with mental health issues for a while now. I think the jealousy just pushed her over the edge." Sophia felt a pang of sympathy for Chris' mate, but also couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal. "You should have done something before this happened. You should have gotten her help." "I know, and I regret not doing that. But we're trying to get her the help she needs now," Chris assured her. Sophia nodded, still feeling uneasy about the whole situation. "I hope she gets the help she needs. But I also want to make sure something like this never happens again." "Agreed," Chris said, "And I'll do anything I can to make it right." Sophia nodded, feeling a small sense of relief. It wasn't a perfect resolution, but at least Chris seemed remorseful and willing to make things right. Hopefully, with time and effort, they could all move past this. But in Sophia pack something different was happening as a few wolf's elders were found dead in the forest and claws on their skin definitely wasn't a werewolf. "We need to find Sophia, they are coming for her," Jacob said, staring at the cops. He knew finding Sophia would take forever and she might never believe him again.
