Chapter 3

661 Words
“Cade, have you ever heard a fairly tale about a wolf like mine?” “Not that I can recall, why?” “Your mother mentioned something about it.” “Well we can try and find it if you’d like.” “I would rather find real wolves that have woken up late. Like maybe I have Lycanthropy or something” “Psh, lycans aren’t real Stella and even if they were, wouldn’t that be what happens to humans?” “We’ll maybe it’s an actual thing?” Cade raised an eyebrow at her, “I thought you wanted to focus on real?” Stella frowned, “Right.” “Well my dad said that it’s possible completing the mating process could wake her up..” “Cade!” “What? It’s no secret that mates can help each other heal.” “That’s true but I would at least like to feel that bond first.” “I can wait for you. Until I have to step into the Alpha role anyways, but that won’t be for a while!” He added that last bit hurriedly. “I’m glad, I just want to figure this out first.” “Well, we could still play around?” Something about his words repulsed me. “I really want to feel the mate pull, I’m sorry Cade.” He pulled me close to him, “don’t make me wait too long.” Then he kissed the side of my head. After a few weeks of training with the Luna, I was more resilient but my wolf was no more awake. Wasn’t it strange that no one was concerned? I was never approached by pack wolves, and I wasn’t allowed to speak to them. Only my grandparents and the Alphas. Cade was the first wolf my age I had really interacted with, and he was seemingly sweet but something about him set off alarm bells. Probably because my wolf isn’t awake. Maybe I should try to finish the mating for Cade. It must feel like I’m rejecting him every time I tell him no. Besides that, we haven’t found a single thing about an unconscious wolf. Luna Tilly pretends she never mentioned a fairytale to me. Next weekend there was to be an alpha meeting, I was instructed that I would be introduced as the future Luna then excused from the event before anyone noticed my wolf hadn’t woken yet. “Luna Tilly, couldn’t we ask the other Alphas if this has happened in their packs?” “Hmmm, we could write letters but we don’t want other packs thinking we are weak. If they knew it was the future Luna they may attack hoping to claim more territory.” “I… hadn’t thought of that.” “Don’t worry Stella, I’m sure your wolf will wake up. At least you have one. Although rare some of our wolves never even develop, and those people are executed in some packs. We’re fortunate to not have anyone like that in ours.” “Would our pack execute them?” “Well,” the Luna paused choosing her words. “Some packs allow the basically human pack members leave to join human society. Others force them to stay and be servants.” “That doesn’t really answer” Luna Tilly cut her off, “the point is, hunters come from human society. We can’t allow individuals to spread our location out.” Stella felt her stomach churn, “I guess that’s true.” “We have to make tough decisions sometimes, but that doesn’t make us bad. As leaders, we must keep our pack safe at all cost. That’s why not everyone is cut out to lead. Hesitation leads to death Stella.” Hours later in the comfort of her own home, Stella wept with this new knowledge and swore that when her wolf woke up she would be strong enough to protect everyone.
