Prologue
“Henry, I’m not asking you to replace her with Micheal, no one can ever replace Michael to you, and to us. But please, tolerate her, until you learn to love her. And you will, I promise you.”
“But why did you have to adopt mum? dad? Why? If I’m enough and you’re not trying to replace Micheal?” He said, still sulking.
“Son, your mother has always wanted a daughter. After giving birth to you and Micheal, and was with her third baby, she had severe pregnancy complications, that led to her losing the baby, and then we were told that if she tries to conceive again, there’s only thirty percent chance of her survival. So to avoid that, your mother had to undergo a hysterectomy. Her dreams of having a daughter died that day. Now, she has seen this little child who needs a family, most importantly, a mother. We want to give her one, and at the same time fulfill your mother’s dream of having a daughter. For your mother, please will you accept Lily as your sister? Please?” His father explained.
“Okay, I’m sorry for throwing tantrums about the adoption Mum, Dad. I’ll try to tolerate her, until I love her, she will never replace Micheal, but I’ll try to find a place for her in my heart, and accept her as my baby sister.” He said, with half a smile, but that was all his parent needed to hear. “Thank you,” they said simultaneously as they both took turns kissing him on the forehead.
“Now, let’s go bring your little sister home.” The mother chirped happily, as they walked into the orphanage, holding his hands on each side.
