Lilly was tossing and turning under her sheets, she had been running he grabbed her his black eyes full of questions. She woke up quickly short of breath, she run her hands through her hair that is the last time she would read before bed. She closed her eyes for a moment trying to calm her beating heart. She stood up and stretched, her body felt sore she thought she must have slept wrong. She walked over to the mirror she had dark circles under her eyes, this would take some make up to make her look half decent. It was then she saw it, she moved closer to the mirror a dark bruise was starting to form on the top of her arm.
“It wasn't a dream” she whispered to herself, she waited, but there was nothing no sound and no wolf. She laughed to herself she was going crazy and reading far to many stories. She got herself undressed and went into the shower in the bathroom connected to her own room. It was new her father had made her an on suit as he thought it would be more suitable now she was getting older not to have to share a bathroom with her father. She spent her shower trying to come up with many reasons why her arm was sore, she came up with none. However, it couldn't be due to her inner wolf, and some other wolf.
She chose comfy warm clothes fishing wasn't going to be a beauty contest. A green jumper, green waterproof trousers and boots she would be warm, and that's all that matters. She had to get through today with her farther than get ready on Sunday for her gathering on Monday. She turned eighteen at exactly midnight on A Sunday night she couldn't wait, not that it would change anything, but she looked forward to it all the same she felt a tension would be realized.
The trip in the car was only an hour long Lilly and Ray listened to old music through the radio, they didn't talk much Ray wasn't a man of many words.
“So how's studying going lils you still enjoying it" He didn't take his eyes off the road as he spoke.
“ Yeah it's going well I'm nearly done with my dissertation. Are we nearly there yet"
“ Nearly another twenty minutes or so not long now.” She was glad there wasn't long left, her body was aching she felt like she was starting to feel herself burning up. She tried to push it down as she didn't want to be ill for her birthday.
They arrived at the lake and set up they spent most of the afternoon fishing, they had set up their tents to sleep overnight. Her father had caught two fish, and she had caught none, but that was one each for both. Lilly lived the best of both worlds her father allowed her to be a girly girl with safety limits he also enjoyed her being a bit of a tom boy, she liked to be out in nature with him. She thought he liked it to he was more relaxed when he was fishing, he smiled more. They sat by the fire, however Lilly felt more uncomfortable as she still had not shifted the sick feeling and being so close to the fire was too hot. As she was sitting her felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise her eyes looked through the trees around the lake.
“Hey dad there isn't like bears around here are there or you know wolves"
Her father laughed a little shaking his head “there are no bears Lils but I have heard rumors of wolves, I have never seen them myself mind but people say there are packs around for sure I'm just not sure where, but we are safe the fire will keep them away. An know the gun.”
This didn't reassure Lilly much however she knew her father had packed his shot gun in his tent just in case, she wasn't sure of how much use it would be as it hadn't been fired. She excused herself for the night and went into her tent and got into her sleeping bag. She was burning hot but maybe she could sweat the fever away. She curled up and closed her eyes hoping she would feel better in the morning for her birthday, she didn't want to ruin her dads fishing trip. There was a pounding in her head it almost sounded like panting, she held her tummy as she drifted off to sleep she wasn't sure how but maybe the fresh air had done her good making her sleepy.
