Chapter Seven: Healing Time

2062 Words
Rheya POV The rest of the night was depressing and lonely. Natalie was still in the hospital, waiting for the wolfsbane to fully leave her system. Most of her bruises and cuts were beginning to heal, but she had one scar that would remain. It started at her left ear and stopped at her lips, she said she was continuously cut in the same spot, just to make sure a scar remained. Amara was locked in her room, not allowing anyone but Dean to see her. According to him, the burn has healed slightly, but she has deemed herself too horrid to look at. The scar from the cross on her neck was still scarily visible, and we weren’t sure if it was ever going to go away. Leo and I decided it was in our best interest to reschedule the Ball. We wanted to be sure our family was okay before doing any sort of celebration. We were up most of the night calling the other packs to inform them before they made the journey. I’m sure we weren’t going to sleep anyways. At this point, Leo and I were lying in bed, my head on his chest as he played with my hair, not saying a word. We heard a knock at the door suddenly. “Enter,” Leo said in his booming voice. Lorelei surprisingly poked her head in the door. “Mom, Dad, can I talk to you?” She asked in a very depressed tone. “Sure, honey come sit down,” I said as we sat up and I patted the bed next to me. She quickly scurried over and climbed in bed between us, laying her head against me and snuggling into me like she did when she was a child. She was silent for a moment before she spoke up with a fear filled voice. “Mommy, I snuck into the hospital…to visit Aunty Nat…I... I don’t want to be a warrior yet. I’m not ready,” She sobbed out. I looked at Leo stunned, and he gently leaned over and stroked her head. “Baby girl, it’s okay. This is what we were trying to tell you. The world is scary. The sooner you start taking on bigger things. The sooner you can get hurt.” He said in his fatherly voice. “I know…I just…I didn’t believe everything you guys said. I’ve never seen…seen anything so…bad.” She said in between sobs. I shushed her to relax and to speak when she’s calmed down. “Lorelei, as long as you grow when you’re supposed to you will be ready for everything the world has to throw at you. Just behave and take it all day by day.” I finally said once she calmed down. She just nodded her head and wiped away the tears. “Do…do I have to go to elite?” She asked. Leo and I let out a small chuckled and we wrapped her in a hug. “No baby, you can stay with Uncle Ben, as long as you behave and quit fighting.” I said to her. “What about James?” She asked us. It was Leo’s turn to respond, “We were switching him anyways on his 18th birthday. He’s just a few months ahead so he’ll be okay.” And she nodded. One final hug and she left our room but was still letting a few tears fall. “I hate to see her cry, but I’m glad she finally understands now.” Leo said and I agreed still in shock. We resumed our cuddling, before finally falling asleep around 3AM. To my dismay, I woke a few hours later for no reason other than just habit. A few minutes after me, Leonidas woke as well. The house was still and quiet as we got ready and made our way down the dining room for breakfast. We said good morning to all the family and our kids before grabbing a coffee to go. “I know you two are not skipping breakfast.” I lowered my head as I heard the voice of the chef. I turned around to see Sarah, with a hand on her hip and a grumpy look on her face. “I’m sorry Sarah, no time, we’ve got to check on Natalie and Amara.” I told her. She huffed out before she went into the kitchen came back out with a tray. She handed it to Leo before she spoke, “Be a dear then and take their breakfast as well. You know I hate when you guys skip meals so there’s some breakfast for you and Leo as well.” I thanked her and pulled her in for a hug. She always made sure we were all well fed and taken care of and I couldn’t appreciate her more for it. Looking at her made me remember everything she went through with Alexander and I was so glad she got another chance. About a year after my wedding, she met Dwayne, a survivor from another pack war. He was a warrior who didn’t agree with his pack, but had no other family and no other options, until he met her. All other omegas were busy, so Sarah took it upon herself to bring the prisoners food. She was surprised to say the least when she saw one was none other than her second chance. At first, she tried to reject him, but he denied it every time no matter how much it hurt. This went on for 6 months, before she finally had a conversation with him. They dated like that for another 6 months, learning all about each other. It wasn’t until Gaia did a form of a lie detector test; did Sarah finally find his true intentions. And thus, a beautiful union was created. They now have 2 beautiful littles girls together, Savannah (10 y/o) and Daniella (5 y/o). “Yes ma’am,” I said to Sarah. Leo and I both chuckled as we walked out. Sarah gave us both a quick pat to our butts like we were children again. It honestly made us both laugh even harder. We quickly made our way outside and over to the hospital. Nobody stopped us, we all knew what we were here for. “Good morning my love,” I said in a goofy tone as I walked into the room. “Ahh my savior!” Natalie cheered out. She tried to lift both her arms to hug me, but her shoulder was still tender. While we do heal fast, breaking the same bone twice and adding in wolfsbane will slow the process down. “How are you doing today?” I asked her as I pulled up the rolling tray to her bed. Leonidas set the food down and opened the lid, revealing all the delicious smelling food Sarah made. Almost all our stomachs growled causing us to burst out laughing. “Perfect now that I’ll eat,” Natalie said once she caught her breath. I rolled my eyes and looked to max. “How is she doing?” I asked him. He walked over and lifted the chart from her bed. “All the vitals have improved but they aren’t perfect. The shoulder is doing nicely but taking longer than normal still. With a double break, wolfsbane, and no offense baby but age plays a part too.” He said and she rolled her eyes as she took a bite of eggs. I snatched up two muffins for Leo and myself to which we both dug in. “You think she’ll be completely healed by next Saturday? I want to get this ball underway and find the person who did this to you, and my daughter.” Leonidas asked Max and he quickly shook his head. “I have to ask. Is there anything you can remember that can help?” I turned to her. “I don’t know Rheya. The only people we regularly saw was Alexander and some boy with him. Any time we weren’t tortured we were blind folded.” She replied to me. She took another bite and thought hard for a minute before she began talking again. “There was one time actually. A female came in, I was dozing in and out of consciousness so I hardly remember anything, but Amara might!” She suddenly said. “She won’t talk to any and I would hate to command her.” I replied to her. “Oh hell, tell her I said crying isn’t going to help us. We need to get the people that got us! I’m hurt too but I want to get them, and I want Nevaeh back here!” She screamed out in anger. Maxwell tried to calm her down, but she refused to quit yelling. Finally, I stepped in before Max had to dose her with a relaxant. “Beta, stand down and relax.” I said in my alpha tone. Immediately she stopped yelling and forced herself to lay back and submit. She pushed her tray away in a fit of anger and just stared out the window. I nodded to Max who returned a half assed smile and we turned to leave. I linked Dean while we were walking to his room, commanding him to let us in. Of course, when we got to their floor, Dean was waiting for us in the hallway outside his room. “Alphas, I don’t think it is a good idea.” He started to say but Leo put his hand up. “Listen, you don’t want me to repeat the things Natalie just said. They are both hurting but we need to find the men.” Dean just bowed his head and opened his bedroom door. I walked in alone while the boys stayed outside. I figured Amara would feel more comfortable if it were just me. “Amara, we need to talk.” I said as I walked towards her. She was sitting in a chair, with her knees to her chest just staring outside. “What Alpha?” She said in a snarky tone. “Amarantha, I have done nothing to you. I have given you blood from my own veins!” I said a little louder than I would have preferred to. “I’m sorry I cannot be the help you need Alpha.” She said, her tone was suddenly very depressive. “The wolf will heal. She may have a few scars, but they are small, my body may forever be burnt like this.” “That’s it.” I said as I marched over to her. I stood in front of her and kneeled down to where we were face to face. She had a funeral veil covering her face to stay hidden. “Amara, no matter what you look like or have been through we are family. We are not just wolves to you, and you are not just another vampire to us. We need you in this pack. Pick yourself up and be the strong woman you are. I have been in your shoes and I’ll tell you, killing the man who ruined me helped me in such a weird way and I want to do that for you guys.” I said as I held her arms with one hand and pulled back the veil with the other. I used her weakness to my advantage. “Strong vines from old roots.” I said to her as I looked in her eyes. She may not see it, but she has already begun to heal slightly, it may take some time, but she will return to her normal. “Let those days be the old roots and you need to become the strong vine I know you are Amarantha.” I said finally. We sat like that for a long time before she finally let a single tear drop fall from her eyes and she pulled me into a hug. “I’m so sorry Alpha,” She said as I hugged her back. Once we were done hugging, she sat back, and I looked at her again. “Now, tell me about the female.” I said to her and she nodded her head before she began the story.
