Chapter Two: Catching Up

1608 Words
Rheya POV “Mom!” I heard my oldest James yell as he waved his hands in front of me. I came back to reality and gave him a questioning look. “I’m sorry honey, I was…dwelling.” I told him honestly while rubbing my temples. After losing Nevaeh I swore to never hide the truth from my children again, no matter how much it hurt. Which meant sitting down with all of them and explaining my past. James surprisingly took the news of his mother okay, and he says that while I didn’t birth him, I was always his true mother. The kids had a harder time digesting my time with Christian, but it explained Nevaeh’s disappearance to them a lot easier. “I know, that’s why I brought you back here!” James said as he sat down in the chair across my desk. He wasn’t my small, sweet boy anymore, he was almost a full-grown man now. With his 18th birthday just around the corner were all on pins and needles awaiting to see if he will have a wolf or not. Our twin boys, Legend and Luciano (13 y/o) are turning into miniature versions of their father but with my crystal blue eyes. They still have their gift for tracking, which delights Zach as he has been training them from the day they could walk. Rowan (12) was my sweet baby boy; he was my book smart child and never showed a care for the training. Now Lorelei (12) was still my spitfire child, she had an attitude that even I had a hard time keeping up with, and surprisingly she had no Alpha signifier, just two beautiful bright blue eyes. Moon Goddess bless the man she’s mated too. She looked as if she could be Nevaeh’s twin at this age, and it made it hard to look at her, but it was equally hard to keep my eyes off her. “Why are you not at training?” I asked him as I saw the clock, it was only 9:30. “I already know everything Ben teaches us. I’m bored there!” He spoke. He has been trying to get into the elites but until we know the status of his wolf, I won’t permit it. The elites kicked my ass and Tyler has only gotten stricter with his training. “You know the rules, anybody not Alpha or warriors cannot train and right now you are not ether. Enjoy the training now before you really get your butt kicked.” I said with a chuckle. “Now go before I take you down there myself.” I said as I waved him off. He stood and walked towards the door with a string of complaints following. “I’m linking Ben too so don’t think to ditch!” I yelled out just before he shut the door. Back in my lonesome state, I started to think again. My 34th birthday was just a few days ago, but there was not much celebration. It always gets rough for us around birthdays and holidays. As much as we want to enjoy, we can only think about the missing piece of our families puzzle. It had been 4 ½ years since she was taken, and we are still nowhere near finding her. Despite being empty-handed I swore I would never give up on her, and I didn’t. I prayed to Selene to show me any sort of vision hinting to where she was, but the blind spots of the future were being messed with. Whoever was in charge wasn’t making a solid decision. There was a lot of speculation about why the vision had changed from us being attacked to them just kidnapping her. We can only assume that catching her was a chance happening and not planned. Amid all of that I was named as the unofficial Queen of Wolves. There were still many different packs among the world, and there were the occasional fights, but it was substantially less than what it was. No more fights for dominance or lands grabs, just all of us attempting to live in harmony. Although there were still a few packs that couldn’t accept me as a leader, but they still attempted to get along with everyone else. “Alpha,” Amara said as she entered my office. She looked the same as she always had, but it wasn’t like we expected her to age like us. Amara and Dean only had two children, their first was a sweet little girl Khaalida (5), her name meant deathless which felt oddly fitting for a half vampire child. She looked just like Amara but acted just like her father. Their little boy, Cadell (3), takes his dads looks with Amara’s hair, but he is like his mother and a little tamer than his sister and father. Over the years we have discovered that they both have vampire speed and strength, but neither can be in the sun too long. They get what looks like a severe sunburn and goes away after a few hours. We aren’t sure if they’ll be able to shift but no matter what they will have a spot in this pack. “Yes Amara?” I waved her into the room, and she took her usual spot on the couch. “We went around the area but once again, no sign of her or the men.” She said in a sad tone. “I’ve been thinking if this for a while, but what if we are looking too far?” I asked her and she gave me a confused look. “What if they are hiding her right under our nose? Think about it, we have checked all the unclaimed lands, and alerted many of the packs to our search of her. There are only three packs who haven’t responded or offered help in any way.” I said to her. Just as I finished my sentence the door burst open again and in came Ben holding Lorelei by her collar. She had that fresh in trouble look and I immediately started rubbing my temples. “What now?” I asked as she held back an amused look. “My sweet niece here decided she wanted to fight a recently promoted warrior…” Ben said as he sat Lor down in a chair next to Amara. “AND when Jonathan didn’t want to fight her, she taunted him, with inappropriate sayings. Off which I will not repeat.” Ben said. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot, waiting for my response. Amara leaned over to Lor and asked her, “Did you at least win?” and without a moment pause she responded, “Kicked his ass Auntie!” to which Amara gave her a quick high five and an attagirl. When I glared at her she stifled her laughter but sunk back into her seat. “Oh, I so can’t wait until I can influence my niece and nephew!” I said before I turned to Lorelei. “Grounded, for a week!” I said and Ben huffed out his breath. “Sister, you know that does nothing! And James skipped today too! The kids are out of control!” He said in an exasperated tone. I knew it did nothing but what else could I do? I sat back for a second before a thought popped into my head. “Alright. You and James have your way. Training with Uncle Tyler and the Elites starts after the ball.” I said to her. Ben and Amara’s faces both turned into a face full of shock and laughter knowing what the kids have gotten into. Lor just cheered and hopped up, “I’m going to tell James we did it!” Before she was completely gone, I called out to her, “Once you’re in, there’s no going back!” and once again, she waved me off. “Oh, you know they’ll regret that. Lesson learned.” Ben said before he happily turned and left the room. “Now, back to the important matters.” I said as I turned back to Amara. “We need to talk to those packs. We can’t check their land until they allow us, whoever is holding Nev may very well know we aren’t on good terms with those packs and be hiding out.” “Or they could be the ones holding her themselves. Two of those packs popped up just weeks after her disappearance.” Amara said. I nodded and agreed. “So, how do we get them here to talk?” She asked me. “My annual ‘birthday’ ball.” I spoke. Every year we held a grand ball in honor of Nevaeh. It was s time for all Alpha’s to gather around and solve any issue we had with other packs peacefully, and we used it as a means to gather any information anyone had about Nevaeh. It was a two in one. “We will need Iris for this.” Amara said. “Zach won’t like it.” “He’ll do it, if it helps getting Nev back then he won’t mind too much,” replied Amara. She excused herself while I took out my phone and dialed the number. It was only half a ring before I heard the soft melodic voice on the other end. “Yes Alpha?” She spoke. “Iris, can you come to my office?” I asked. She immediately responded letting me know she would be up in just a few moments.
