I guess I should explain a true sprit pup, and what most werewolves have. What most werewolves have part sprit pup. As the lycan started to die at the hand of Sir Adam, so did the chance of these pups to mature. This is because a sprit pup only happens when two mated wolves, lycan or were, mate in wolf form.
After the wolves mate, the female will then carry her pup for no less than hundred years, 3,000 is the longest known time for a sprit pup to be carried. When the human body dies, the sprit pup goes to the next born wolf baby, and is given the ability to hide, acting as though they aren’t a wolf at all.
It is hard for the wolf to carry a pup hundred years, as most of our kind barely live to be eighty with wars breaking out random over almost anything. Even the Alpha King has issues keeping the peace.
Most of current wolves have a second soul that live as a wolf, anywhere in the world. They grow with a pack, some along with humans, while others far away from them. They were raised with the knowledge of Eva and Jacob, of Zerena, and of Sir Adam. They were raised with our history, as they were there when it started. This is why most don’t question not have a true sprit pup. Since they are given wolves who already know everything we need to know, plus few things we didn’t.
“When Eva and Jacob went into hiding they did so as wolves. Since they are our first, lycans, they didn’t have a scent like werewolves have. No one could tell they had humans in them. But Rayne had been pregnant long before then.” I looked at LeRoy, he looked a student who missed a great lesson and was just learning it.
“When Jacob first learned what happened, they left their pack for a few years, to learn about themselves living both as human and wolves. During that time, they mated in human form and wolf…”
“And both human and wolf because with child.” I smirked at my mate, he didn’t want to hear that part.
“Yes. Well Rayne didn’t know what would happen to her baby, so she refused to give birth. This actually helped them, at first. It gave Eva extra strength for battles with vampire and the evil witches. It gave them extra strong senses. But around the hundred year mark, when we now know she should have had her pup, things began to return to normal for them. Rayne even stopped feeling her pup move. They thought that the pup was lose.”
I felt my heart sadden, knowing that Avye had tried everything she could to reach out to her mother, telling her she was there. “How did Rayne handle it?”
“She didn’t it. It wasn’t until after the war with Sir Adam that she learned she was still with child.” I looked at the sky, “When she was in her wolf form, a vampire attacked her stomach. There was an urge to protect her stomach that shouldn’t have been there. The vampire lived only a moment after being stopped.” It seemed to be getting late into the afternoon, I should heading home for lunch soon. “When they learned she still had the pup, after losing most of their children and grandchildren, they went into hiding, never to know what happened.”
“When they died, Avye was sent to you then.” I nodded at his question, “I guess that means the rumors about Opal Packs being like lycan is true?”
“Rumors?” I looked back at him, clearly confused.
“One of the old records talks about how the five wolves that were used back Sir Adam made a home with your pack, that they hid the lycan part of them, and find mates and lived their lives.” I only nodded, “It was never proven, just a story according to the records even.”
He stood up, looking at me, “I don’t want to have to die to prove my worth and have a mate. I just want a mate who doesn’t care about who I am, while also wanting only what is best for our kind.” I heard Avye growl at him, I guess I should have known. LeRoy wouldn’t want this war, but there wasn’t a choice for me, I have the lycan heir as my wolf. “I, Alpha King LeRoy, accept your rejection.”
As he turned to leave, in a small voice that I know wasn’t my own, I know it was Avye, “Your worth is to give up. You are no worthy of the lycan title.” He turned looking back at us, “You are not worthy of the title as Alpha King.” I felt my eyes burning, knowing that he would never have a mate now, and knowing that even if I did get a second chance mate, it would be someone connected to him. My heart finally felt something from what was to be our bond. Pain.
~
A few days since LeRoy left my pack land. Almost everyone in the pack has completed their lycan awaking. The only members that hadn’t are the ones who joined but never mated in. My brother has been doing a great job as leading them, taking my advice about training, and guarding our land. As things keep changing, everyone without our pack grows happier, and they all say how they have been feeling more complete.
Then word came of LeRoy’s wedding. The king was taking a bride, only to give the people a Luna Queen, they knew she would never bare him an heir and that he would have to choice went line will challenge for the title.
I guess that was the day I choice to leave my pack, going to join my team as they leader. I called the state, then code 96595337, “Thank you for calling Wolf Keep, please explain what wolf issues you have been having.” Of course isn’t a real recording, this line was meant to keep humans from getting any information they shouldn’t be getting.
“Hello, I am from Opal Land, team 5337, I am trying to find a location that will work for a wolf control HQ.”
“Name.”
“Mina Opal.”
“City you are looking in?”
“Charlton.”
“The address is as followed…”
Seven years have passed since that call. I have been working as the lead Wolf Keeper for my team, even though everyone know I am the Lycan Queen, no one treats me as though I am. I already chosen the niece who will take my place, as long as she reaches age.
The building I was given turned into the lower three levels being apartments for both my team, and those we help. The top two levels will be for our work, which is heavily protected. There is a ground floor where everyone enters, then directed to the correct elevator. There are stairs, two sets, that was guarded at started on the fourth floor.
My work keeps me from thinking about my past more than I have to. That was until there was a rogue attack. In my pack land. I was called home to help with it since I could just order the attackers to show themselves. “I guess I’ll be there tomorrow.” Hanging up the phone, I looked at my second in command, “You’ll be in charge of overseeing missions, but you stay out of my office.” He hated that I didn’t let him do anything more than lead the team when I had to return home, but he wasn’t really trustworthy.
“Yes, ma’am.” He turned, leaving the room. If he hated his life as a wolfkeeper, and wanted something more. My office had more than enough information for him to learn what he had to do. He wouldn’t be a good wolf until he controlled his greed and pride. Maybe one day he would understand why some of us had to be born without wolves.
I gathered up what I would need to bring with me, getting ready to head back to my pack for the second time this year. I hated leaving my home, but my family needed me.
When I left the office, I locked it with a special lock so that no one could enter without me. Perks of owner the leading security system and gadgets in the world. Once my office was locked up tight, I headed for my family. They were only about an hour away, but it was still a drive.
My pack was still tucked away from most humans’ ability to get to, but I took my car to until I reach the parking garage. After this I would continue on foot until I reached the hidden pack village in the middle of a forest. It had long lost the feeling of being my home. Though it would always feel welcoming.
I reached the main pack house without anyone seeing me, which is a plus. Whenever my pack saw me, they always bowed to me, making me feel like I was in a role that wasn’t mine.
Reaching his office, I heard Paul on the phone with someone so I waited before entering, “I have told you, she left. She only returns when we call her for help with things that only she can take care of.” He was talking about me, this made me look at the door, “Maybe she arrived and discovered I lied. You can’t expect her to want to… It isn’t my place to order her. The day she woke up the lycans she became our leader. I told you, she will be here sometime today, I never said when. If you want her blessing, then you go find her.” There was a soft growl from his office. “Then declare war on the lycans. You are the one who gave up on her. You are the one who wanted the easy way out. And you are still trying to take the same road. This was me giving you one chance to prove yourself wrong, that you had been worth the Goddess’s great bless. But you are a coward.”
The phone slammed down, telling me was using the old phone just for this reason. I smiled at him, he gave my mate a chance, but still stood by my side. “Even if he begged,” I began to speak, seeing my brother jump, “I would never give my blessing. He isn’t worth of his title.” Paul looked at me, and smiled, before running over to me, hugging me.
“I gave him one chance, and he is threating war.” There was a slight laugh from him. I guess the Alpha king forgot that while I am queen, my brothers are my right hands, and I have told them how I want our pack to be trained, and to always be battle ready.
I nodded, “Looks like I’ll have to stay here for a while.” I tilted my head back and sighed, “This is why you never deal with someone else’s mate.” He nodded, before we got to talking about what will be happen. And why Paul had lied to me.
Apparently, LeRoy wanted my blessing to married his chosen Luna Queen, without me even meeting her. He needed a wife to lean on, so he chose his childhood girlfriend. Though they have already tried to mate and mark each other since he walked away. Without thinking my hand went to my left shoulder, thinking of the pain it caused me. But their marks never took, as I could still feel when they mated. I could still feel when she tried to make him hers.
“I know you don’t want this, but he walked away. He didn’t build the bond with you. Will you be able to face him?” I looked at the door, seeing my second oldest brother, Joe. He was still the beta of this pack, and as from as I could see, he was going just as good job as Paul was as an alpha.
“He was a war, we will destroy the title of alpha king. The role was only need while the lycans were sleeping. We aren’t anymore.” I could tell my brothers knew I wasn’t going to back down if the Alpha King came to attack my pack. The world would learn why Lycans were stronger than werewolves. They would learn why proving ones worth meant everything to a mate. We don’t give up on what is ours.
