Chapter 6  It isn’t like I didn’t know who it was. After all, his scent was supposed to call to me, telling me where to find him. But with Avye, she didn’t want a mate. Lycans didn’t bond like werewolves did. Our soul mate is born from death. A pureblood lycan rarely finds an already wolf mate, and because of this, it’s harder for our wolf to bond with our mate, which is why Avye rejected him, but gave him a chance to win her. Though I don’t understand, as I feel no pull toward him, just a knowledge that this king is my mate. I guess, you could say it was like an arrange marriage; you know you are together while hoping that something happens. I feel my arms by my side, not realizing that I had finished stretching my arms. “Two trees over is my tree. I keep male shorts in case my brothers find me here.” There was a soft growl, telling me he didn’t like being ordered. Though he walked over to the tree and shifted back into his human skin. When he came out from his hiding, he had to jump over my creek. His skin looked darker in the sunlight, though his eyes green as ever. “What can I do for you?” The look on his face, was hurt and confusion. I tilted my head to the side, not understanding what was going through his head. I had issues with understand the weres. “I know you are my mate, by why do I not feel a bond toward you. No longing. It’s like…” His have ran through his hair, making me smirk. “Like an arrange marriage that we don’t know if anything will bloom from it?” I finished his thought for him, though it was phrased as a question. LeRoy only nodded his head, still confused. “I guess, because lycans only fully bond when their mate proves their worth.” We watched each other for some time, before he finally growl his hands all but pulling his hair out. “Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to be the Alpha King, and all the work that goes into that, while defeating my great-great-great grandfather’s challenge? I thought the only thing about my life that would be simple is my mate. But no, of course the guardians just had to go and mess that up for me as well.” I felt a small smile on my lips. “I’m still your mate, we just don’t have a bond, but I am still here.” “You rejected me.” He forced a laugh, and it hurt. “I had no choice. If I accept you without a bond you could die.” I looked away from him having to say that. “If I accept you, and we haven’t bond, your wolf will die. And you will either die with him, or come to close to death you beg for it to take you. Somewhere near by a wolf will also come close to death…” The story is legend, but it was based on so much fact. “Then the witch will come and save us both, if we are strong enough, and agree with each other. Everyone knows that story. It’s the story of Eva and Jacob.” I could hear the anger in his voice. “It isn’t just a story. Zerena still lives, she could begin wake up death bed lycans.” I looked back at him, standing by what I have said to him. I feel the want to step to him, to show him I am open to being his mate, having a happy ending with him. But he takes a step back. “Zerena? How is she still a live?” He looked almost scared, the only good story of her is that she is the maker of the lycans and werewolves. “Because she was the first witch. You know it is next to impossible to kill of the first.” There was a moment of silence when he looked at me, “Did you almost die?” I guess I should have guessed that question would come up sooner or later. “Yes. When I was very young. I don’t remember it. Father had said he wasn’t sure how I lived.” I stopped turning and looking at my home, “But he had told me how I was strong. He told me of how a witch came to save my life.” LeRoy took another step toward me, “Then you became a lycan at a young age? How long have you had a wolf in you?” There was anger and worry all mixed together in his voice. I turn back to look at him, “Avye said she reached out when was around five, but I have no memory. Which is about when I was a-. When I almost died.” I looked away, almost ashamed I about told him. No one needed to know I was attacked by vampires. My family didn’t even know. The only reason I know is Avye. We didn’t speak after that, just stood there, each having their own thoughts. After what seemed like ten minutes, I walked over to a log and sat down. “You never told me why you were here.” He came over and took a seat next to me, “I know you are my mate, and I guess I can understand us not having a bond. But why now?” I looked up at the clouds, they looked so happy up there, free to be anything they wanted. “When wolves are in the womb, we lack our soul. We don’t get one until our wolf dies.” I looked over at him, seeing the shock on his face. I weakly smiled, “Avye explained it to me. Well, Eva died on my birthday, just a minute before my birth. The only problem, her wolf had been carrying a single pup for almost 3,000 years.” “A spirit pup? Didn’t there was any more left.” LeRoy looked back at me, almost like he was studying for a test. I sighed and looked back to the sky, “That lone pup was Avye.”
