Chapter Three

CHAPTER THREE

   “Don’t disappoint me!” Lucifer warned as he vanished. Elias sighed as he fell on his bed and scratched his head, “What will I do” he thought.

    Rowland has began working in Delta I.T company. Walking across the hall way his phone rang, “ hello sir” he said after picking the call up, “can you meet me at the city’s garden now?” The voice said, “Yes Sir! I’m on my way” Rowland replied.

  ------- Some minutes later------

Elias and Rowland walked across the garden as they admired nature’s wonders with chilled beer in their hands. Elias spoke up after minutes of silence, “I’ll want to ask you a question”, “ I’m all ears Sir “ Rowland replied, “okay…. If you are given an assignment by the government to destroy a building that’s on the way of construction and you discovered it’s a home of the homeless, will you go on?” Elias asked. Rowland sipped his beer before answering, “I’ll report back to the government and request for their relocation or provision of homes or a kind of compensation”, “ And if they won’t?” Elias asked, “then I won’t do it” Rowland answered, “and loose your job?” Elias asked, “Well, that’s what it means” he replied, “and that’s the fear, they would give someone else the job” Elias said as he turned and saw a group of children playing, laughing and jumping around. A smile lit up his face, Rowland followed his gaze and smiled too as he saw what he was looking at.

   “If it’s in my power to relocate them, I will before the government razes it down” Rowland finally answered, “If you say” Elias said stressing the word “if”. Rowland drank his beer and said, “ and if I don’t have the ability, there must be something I could do”, “You are really optimistic Rowland, you give me hope” Elias said smiling at him. “May I ask? Why all these questions?” Rowland said, “Just drink up your beer let’s go back to work” Elias replied with a smile and walked towards a tree.

   Reckon was sitting on a table in the garden as he watched Elias and Rowland, “you’re having a nice time” Lucifer said, Reckon stood up to bow but was stopped, “please don’t do that, it will be awkward”, “ Alright “ Reckon replied, “So how’s it going?” Lucifer asked, “what?” “Your monitoring off course?” Lucifer answered with a smirk, “well based on what I’ve noticed he’s really going on well, and I think he’s getting used to this place” Reckon said, “he should enjoy it while it lasts but I have doubts” Lucifer replied,

   “Doubts? That’s not a feeling my lord should feel?” Reckon said, “you’re right but even the Creator has doubts on his creation” Lucifer replied, “that’s true….” Reckon agreed, “….so why the doubts?”, “ Elias is becoming soft, I can feel it even though I can’t read his mind but I know , that guy he’s always with is feeding him with garbage “ Lucifer said as they watch them laugh, “what do you want me to do then? Kill him?” Reckon suggested and Lucifer turned to look at him smiling, “I’ll do just that” Reckon said laughing wickedly.

  The days went by as soon as they came, Elias was still at the company because he needed to work over time, “Can I come in?” A voice said followed by a tap on the door, “It’s closing hours and you shouldn’t be here, go home like everyone else” Elias said still working with his computer not raising his head up. The door opened and a figure was at his desk, “You should at least say ‘come in’ and raise your head up to see who it is” the voice said. Elias looked up and was shocked to see Aza, “Who the hell is this!” He shouted as they both hugged, “what on earth are you doing here?” Elias asked, “can I seat first?” Aza said, “So sorry, please sit” Elias offered, “what brings you to earth?” Elias asked smiling, “well I’ve been on earth for 3 weeks now” Aza replied, “What! And you never said hi” Elias said, “well, I’ve been undercover”, “ undercover? Why?” “Reckon is here” Aza said, “What! Why?” Elias said, “For you, to make sure you do as you were sent” Aza replied, “and our Lord Lucifer accepted?” Elias asked, “Yes he did, though he also sent me too” Aza said.

   Elias stood up and paced around, “Reckon is here, trouble is here for me”, “cool down Elias, there’s no trouble as long as you stay on track” “and why did he send you? To also spy on me?” “ Common Elias, you should be wiser than this, if I was to spy on you, I won’t show myself” Aza said, “then why are you here?” Elias asked. Aza stood and went to Elias, tapped him on his shoulders and replied “To protect you from Reckon”. Elias busted into laughter, “what’s funny?” Aza asked, “protect me? From Reckon? Reckon is stronger than you” Elias said, “Don’t be stupid Elias, that’s my assignment and I volunteered myself for your sake. We both know how much Reckon disdain you and how much he longs to destroy you but with me by your side he cannot. He’s no match for us”, Elias smiled as he hugged his friend, “Thank you “,

 “It’s okay but that’s not why I came…” Aza said, “…there are more pressing matters at hand, “and what are they?” Elias asked, “Your friend Rowland will soon be dead”, “ What!!” Elias shouted, “Yes, Lucifer thinks he’s the cause of the softness of your heart and wants to wipe him off with Reckon doing the job. So you see, I’m of help to you here” Aza said with a smile, “What kind of death? When will that be?” Elias asked fearfully, “that I don’t know but you should be by him all the time to save him” Aza suggested, “I think I have a better suggestion, find out when and the way that will happen” Elias said, “Elias! His type of death is the Reckon type you should know, he’s going to die by accident but when it will happen, I’m blank” Aza replied as he walked towards the door. “Aza! Please help me…” Elias pleaded, “… I’m weak in this flesh”, “I understand and I will help you” Aza said and walked out of the room

     “You have a board meeting by 12pm” Mr. Kim told Elias who was sitting in his office the next day, “okay thank you… Has Mr. Rowland reported to work?” Elias said, “No Sir” Mr. Kim replied, checking his wristwatch, “and it’s quite unlikely of him to come to work by this time”. “Okay, thank you Mr. Kim, you can go now” Elias said and Mr. Kim left.

    Elias picked his phone and called Rowland but he wasn’t picking up, “Common pick your calls” Elias spoke to the phone. He tried thrice and gave up, “Aza don’t disappoint me please” he said as he tapped his table in worry.

   Meanwhile Rowland ran into the building and towards his office, “I’m sorry for reporting late, I encountered some issues” he explained to his Head of Department (HOD) whose name was Isaac. “You should be sorry for yourself, this is two hours behind the resumption of work for the day” Mr. Isaac scolded, “I’m sorry Sir it won’t happen again” Rowland apologized, “You can go” Mr. Isaac said with a wave of hands.
