CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
ELIAS’ POV
“This is not good?” “why is he starting this way?” He closed his eyes, “I hope this ends well for us. We have no where else to go to”
Raphael called out, “Elias! Are you with us?” “Yes! Yes I am” Elias answered as he opened his eyes. “As I was saying, you guys have to receive it with good faith because that’s the best for everyone in this room”. Raphael paused and observed everyone’s face. It was obvious they wanted to hear what he had to say so he smiled and continued.
“Here’s the verdict; you will be stripped off your powers and become human.” A shout was heard in the room, Aza and Dinia clapped hands together, Elias fell back to his seat and laughed softly. “I’m not done yet” Raphael said and they all regained their listening ears.
“Normally every human has a soul and without it they’re dead and demons have no soul neither do angels. So here lies the problem, being human means you would need a soul and when a human dies, the soul returns to be judged which you already know by now. But is there anything too hard for the divine? You’ll be without souls”
“What does that matter?” Aza asked, “when you die” the angel continued, “you run out of existence”. “What!” everyone including Rowland shouted this time. “How will we be remembered for saving earth? For saving mankind?” Elias asked pained. “This is not fair, this is not fair” Rowland said.
The room became quiet, tears flowed down from Dinia’s eyes. Elias couldn’t sit anymore as he walked round the room. Aza bowed in head wishing he remained in hell. “Do not be dismayed, you will be remembered definitely” Raphael said after watching their behavior, “by whom?” Dinia asked with shaky voice, “by Rowland, by God and the host of angels. Rowland will speak of this great feat to his children and they in turn will speak of it to their children” Raphael answered.
“That will be for only a time” Elias said angrily, “whatever they are going to say, it will end up as stories, stories parents tell their kids at night before they sleep.” “And they will be pirated. Even things that didn’t happen will be told. The real deal might not even be added” Aza spoke up as he stood to his feet. “I’ll definitely tell everyone I come across, my kids, my wife, my neighbors every living soul on earth will hear of your names” Rowland swore
“And what will that turn you to? A storyteller? Rowland the storyteller?” Elias said, “I don’t care, I will speak of everything without adulteration” Rowland added. “No matter how much effort you put into this, it can only last for a time” Aza said.
“I’m sorry guys, I’m just a messenger and I deliver as I was told” Raphael said as he stood to his feet, “I’ll be going now” he added as he walked towards the door and opened it. With a finally look at everyone in the room, he smiled sadly and left closing the door behind him.
ROWLAND’S POV
“Is this the fair judgement Raphael talked about?” “no consideration on the effort s and risk these demons had to put themselves in just to save mankind?” “I feel for you guys and I wish I could do something to help”. “How would it feel to not to be remembered, living ghosts. All they do will never matter on earth. No matter the good they do, no one will remember it because they have no soul”. “This is really bad”
ELIAS’ POV
“At the end, God values humans and could do anything for them, even breaking his own rules” “but here we are, victims of circumstances. We did what we had to do and what’s our reward? Humans with no souls” as he bent his head.
He hit his hand at the wall in frustration, “Ah!” he groaned as he looked at the hand, it had began to bleed. “Everything is gone” Elias said, showing everyone his injured hand, “We’re doomed” Dinia said. This statement made Elias laugh in pain.
Rowland watched from a distance the three as they laughed their pain away, “Uhm, Elias, I’ll get a clothe and some water to clean up the blood” he said heading into he house.
“Now what should we do?” Aza asked Elias, “what should we do?” he repeated the question. “Aza I have no idea, I’m clueless just like you, I think I have to rest. I feel dizzy” Elias said and fell. “Elias! Elias!!” Aza and Dinia screamed holding his body as Rowland rushed into the room.
“What happened?” Rowland asked, “He just fell” Dinia answered. “We have to take him to the hospital now!” Rowland said, “lift him, I’ll get my car” he added leaving the scene. The other two took to work immediately, as they tried lifting Elias body up, “Whoa! He’s heavy” Dinia complained. “I wish I had my strength” Aza lamented.
Elias opened his eyes and found himself in the hospital, Dinia and Rowland was present, “what happened?” he asked as he tried to move. He noticed he had a drip on, and felt pains at his back. “You need to be careful, you’re body is till recovering from the shock of the fall” Rowland explained. “I see, all this is new to me” Elias replied, “I have a slight headache, why?” he asked. Rowland smiled and replied, “it’s also because of the fall, you landed with your head”.
“Where’s Aza?” Elias asked, “He couldn’t stand you be this way so he left. I think he’s at the hallway” Dinia answered, “I can call him if you want” She suggested. “No let him be” Elias said, “he needs time to think. All these is too much for us, don’t you think?” “To be honest it is but that’s our fate, we have to walk in it”, Dinia replied smiling sadly
