The Demons Reign

Chapter Eight

PRESENT DAY

Rose was at her desk now, her hands were shaky, “why am I scared?” She asked herself, but got no answer, she tried steading her hands because the shaking was visible, “are you alright Miss Rose?” A colleague of hers, Mrs. Kate asked, her breath became harder as Rose gasped for air, her pupil rolled inside, her heart pounded faster than usual, she tried stabling herself, her throat became dry, “Miss Rose?” Mrs. Kate called out noticing the shaking of her colleagues’ body. Rose tried to stand but her legs couldn’t carry her, “I just need to get to the wall” Rose encouraged herself as she tried walking, “Miss Rose!!” Mrs. Kate screamed as Rose fell to the ground. “Miss Rose! Miss Rose!!” Mrs. Kate called out as she hurried to the body tapping her soon others came around and a crowd was soon formed, “Take her to the Medics” someone said, “Hurry, hurry” the voices soon became distant for Rose as she closed her eyes to the conscious.

Where’s she?” Rowland said running into the Company’s clinic but was stopped by a nurse, “please calm down Sir she’s alright”, “ where’s she?” He asked, “she’s taking her rest in one of the rooms” the nurse replied, “I need to see her, she needs me”, “ hold on Sir, you have to see the doctor first “ she replied as she showed him the doctor’s office.

   “She went into shock” the doctor explained, “how? Why? What happened” Rowland asked, “it’s okay Mr. Rowland, one question at a time… Well we don’t know the reason for the shock, all we could tell is that she had increase in blood flow at an alarming rate due to increase heart beat but she’s okay, she’s stabilized now” the doctor explained, “can I see her?” Rowland asked, “Yes you can, the nurses will lead you to her” the doctor said and Rowland left the room hurriedly.

  “Sir! Miss Rose is in the clinic now” Mr. Kim told his boss, “What? How did that happen?” Elias asked, “she went into shock few minutes she left your office” Mr. Kim replied, “few minutes?” Elias asked, “Yes Sir” his secretary replied, “okay” Elias said nodding as he stood from his desk, “but Sir What happened? Did you do anything to her?” Mr. Kim asked, “No, do you think I could do something to her?” Elias asked with a raised eyebrow.

  “No Sir” Mr. Kim replied, “then stop asking questions you already know the answer to” Elias said as they both walked along the hallway.

   “What happened?” Rowland asked sadly, “He… He… He’s evil” Rose said slowly, “I don’t understand” Rowland said trying to find out more, “He’s… Scary… He has this intimidating and scary presence” Rose explained as she laid on the bed, “What did he do to you?” Rowland asked with anger rising in him, “He… He… He asked me of your whereabouts, his eyes had a kind of fire in them, my body couldn’t hold the fear that suddenly came upon me” Rose explained as tears rolled down her cheeks, “please don’t cry” Rowland said tapping her lovingly, “I told you to be careful” he said, “I was… But he called me” Rose said wiping her tears with her left hand, “get some rest, I need to see the doctor” Rowland said as he struggled to hold back the tears that filled his eyes. “Are you leaving?” Rose asked scared, “please don’t leave me” she requested, this time Rowland couldn’t hold back his tears as he let them out, sobbing hardly, “I wish I was here… I wish I didn’t let this happen to you,” he lamented. “It’s okay… I understand” Rose said sobbing too, “I have to go,” he said standing immediately, “I’ll be back” he continued cleaning his eyes.

    Just as he stepped out he met Elias who was just reaching the door, “Oh, Mr. Rowland” Elias said smiling, “What are you doing here” Rowland replied with anger in his voice, “I came to see my worker” Elias replied still smiling, “you have no business here, thank you for being considerate, you can go” Rowland replied coldly. “Rowland, I don’t know what I did to deserve this treatment from you, common we’ve been friends for awhile” Elias said touching Rowland on his shoulder, who removed his hand immediately, “Don’t touch me, you are the reason she’s here” Rowland said, “I don’t understand, how?” Elias asked confused, “you want to know how?” Rowland yelled, “you want me to tell you!!” His voice became louder, “Mr. Rowland please low your voice” Mr. Kim said calmly, “you have no business here” Rowland cautioned him with a finger, “Mr. Kim, can you leave us” Elias told his secretary who left at that moment. “Can we talk?” Elias asked his friend.

    AT THE ROOFTOP

“Tell me what’s the fuse?” Elias asked Rowland as they both stood facing each other, “you want to know?” Rowland asked, “why didn’t you let me say it before the people down there?” “I don’t understand you” Elias replied looking puzzled, “don’t act like you don’t know” angry Rowland said, “That’s why you took me here, isn’t it?” He asked

“Please cool down and tell me what’s going on here” Elias asked calmly, “You are a DEMON!” Rowland screamed, “what?” Elias replied shocked, “Yes now you’ve known” Rowland said, “you are also the cause of Rose admission into the clinic, whatever you did to her, you have to reverse it now or everyone will know who you really are”, he threatened.

 “Rowland, how did you know?“ Elias asked, “I heard everything that night here, when we spoke” Rowland said pointing to the ground very furious, “you said it yourself and I saw who you were talking to, a fellow demon” he continued, “no wonder you have this fearful presence that accompany you”, “ You are making a mistake my friend “ Elias said trying to calm the anger rising in his blood, “you misunderstood me my dear friend, It was not exactly what you heard” Elias said.

“You think so?” Rowland said with a fisted hand, “then how did the man get to the roof? How did he give you drinks? How did he leave here? How did he…” Rowland asked but was interrupted by Elias who said, “you want to know? You want me to confirm your suspicion?”

 “Yes! Prove it if you are not!” Rowland said. This made Elias laugh wickedly, “you really have guts my friend, mere mortal like you challenging a supernatural being like me” he said laughing again. He stopped, looking at Rowland which made him shiver, “I am Elias, arch demon of the first order and the second powerful demon apart from the devil”, Elias said, transforming into his real self, he grew more muscular, his two front canine teeth grew longer, his eyes became red, his voice became deeper, “ you really want to see me like this? Here I am”. Rowland fell to his knees trembling vigorously, sweat professed out of his flesh as he beheld the mystical being in front of him.

   “You see my friend, I don’t like any being challenging me, I don’t tolerate insults from any being not even a human so foolish and stupid like you” Elias said folding his hands grinning side ways wickedly, “I’m… I’m…. I’m… So… Sorry” Rowland stuttered in graven fear. “Rowland my friend, we’ve been friends for awhile and I really like you a lot and I understand you are ignorant of what you just did” Elias said transforming into human, “I’ll pardon you”. Rowland still on the ground shaking replied, “I’m sorry”

   The two men came into the clinic to the amazement of everyone, Rowland who was rude and causing a disturbance was now quiet and mute, while Elias wore a big smile on his face. This made people ask questions, “what happened up there?” “Why is Mr. Rowland this calm?” “What did Mr. Elias say to him that made him this calm?” “Are you sure he didn’t threaten to fire him?” The two walked into the room where Rose laid, closing the door behind them.

    Rose opened her eyes slowly and saw Rowland who was now sitting beside her, holding her hands with tears dropping from his eyes, “Baby” she said slowly, Rowland turned to her and gave her a smile as he cleaned his tears, “You’ve finally woken up” he said, “Were you worried?” She asked, “I was and I’m still” he replied with a faint smile as he rolled his eyes to the direction of Elias who was in the other side of the room, looking out through the window, Rose followed his eyes and saw the figure, she almost screamed but had a gentle squeeze on her palm by Rowland who signaled her with his index finger across his lips to keep quiet, “please, your health” he reminded her with a sad smile. “How is he here?” Rose asked confused.

   “I’m glad you finally woke” Elias said as he turned to face her, “you kept us worried” he said with a smile and walked towards her, Rose began to shake in fear, “please don’t come closer” Rowland said motioning with his hand, “you don’t need to be scared, I’m not going to hurt you” Elias said as he took a step closer, “Don’t… Please” Rose said in a quaky voice. “Okay” Elias replied as he stood at a spot not too far from the bed which Rose laid on. 

“I’ll like to apologize for what happened earlier Miss Rose, I was too authoritative and let my fury out, so I'm sorry”, Rose turned to Rowland in confusion giving him a look that suggested, “ what is going on here?” “I’m the cause of your admission into this hospital because I let my anger get a grip on me and this might has caused you a hell of fear” Elias said with a smile as he turned back to the window. “The view from here is quiet nice, I can see the sea and little yachts too” he said, “Miss Rose please get well and strong as I want to work with the both of you once again” and with this he walked out of the room.

   “Baby, what just happened?” Rose asked Rowland, “I wasn’t afraid while he was talking, it seemed that all the fear died down the moment he said I'm sorry…. And you were calm, you stayed in the same room he was, you listened to every word he said, and I watched you each moment, you were sad, you were not happy, what’s going on?” She asked, “You have to rest dear” was all Rowland could say as he rubbed her palm softly, “I don’t understand what’s going on with you?” She asked worried, “Don’t be worried about me, I’m fine, I just need to sort myself out” he replied as he stood up, gave her a kiss on the forehead and headed to the door, “please don’t go” Rose pleaded.

This statement made Rowland stand still just as he was about opening the door, “stay with me tonight, I don’t want to left alone, everywhere seem awkward” she said, “I will my love” Rowland replied, “but first I’ll like to get you what to eat, I’ll be back” and he left immediately not wanting to hear what Rose planned on saying. This made Rose shed a tear as he asked herself a rhetorical question, “what have I put myself into?”

   At the restaurant, Rowland pondered on what he say on the rooftop, “I just saw a demon manifest”, he thought to himself as he remembered a teaching from his dad who was an atheist, 

FLASH BACK

 “There’s no such thing as the Supernatural, no Supernatural being exist, everything we see is the reality” his dad said to him as they both sat down in a library. Rowland was 18 years at this time and he was reading a science book with his father who was explaining some of the details to him, “do not be fooled my son by these religions of the world, they are all a waste of time and resources, focus on what you see for they are the reality of life” his dad concluded.
