CHAPTER SIXTEEN While they were eating, they heard a sound coming from the front yard, it sounded like broken glass. “Daddy, what was that?” Rebecca asked her father, “I’ll go check it out” Elias volunteered. Rowland swallowed hard as he stood close to his daughter, holding her hands so tight. At the front yard, Elias couldn’t see anyone, indeed it was a sound of broken glass. Someone shattered Rowland’s windscreen. “Who could this be?” Elias asked himself looking around. He bent down, picked a few of the glass on the ground and surveyed it, picking it one after the other to observe it’s shape, smelled the to see if he can pick up a scent. “This doesn’t look like a glass broken by an object, this was broken by someone who never touched the glass… but how?” At that moment, Elias eyes widened, as he realized who could do just that and with super speed he ran inside to meet Rowland. “What happened?” Rowland asked, “We need to leave now!” Elias , “where to?” Rowland asked scared, “Don’t ask just move, use the backdoor” Elias instructed pulling Rowland who in turn pulled his daughter Just as they came out through the backdoor, they met a very beautiful woman, walking towards them. Her skin shone through it’s dark color, her hair’s length got to her waist and her lips symbolized the softness of hot baked bread. Elias was shocked as he saw her, “Benial!” He screamed putting the two humans behind him, using his body as a coverage, “Hey, Elias. We’ve been expecting you but since you decided not to come and leave your friends to cry in anguish, we decided to pay you a visit” she said . “Who’s that?” Rowland whispered, “I’ll tell you later” Elias answered. “Benial stop! Do not move any further” Elias ordered. This made her laugh, “Elias you’re no longer the boss of me, you’re no longer my superior” She answered, this time increasing her pace. Just then Raphael descended from above, his wings wide spread and a fiery sword in his hands. This time he was dressed like a Roman soldier of the 16th century. His breastplate reflected light, his hair glowed like gold, “Benial! Stop!” He ordered and she obeyed, “This is none of your business Raphael” she protested. “As long as humans are involved it is mine” Raphael answered “I’ll be back” Benial cried as she disappeared. All this time, Rowland cover e the eyes and ears of his daughter so she couldn’t see or hear anything that would terrify her. Raphael sheathed his sword and turned towards the, “Thank you” Elias and Rowland chorused. “You’re most welcomed” he replied transforming his clothes to a suit. His sword gone and his glowing hair became natural. “Hey Rebecca” he called. “Uncle Raph” Rebecca answered as she let go of Rowland’s had and went to hug him. The two men looked at themselves in surprised with a question on their mind, “how did she know him?” Back inside the house, Elias and Raphael explained to Rowland who Benial was while Rebecca was playing with her toys just a few feet from them. “She’s known as the mistress of glass” Elias said, “a demon who uses the glass or what you guys call mirror. Anything that reflects an image is her means of projection” Raphael added. “That’s why mediums, witches and seers uses any glass mirror or water. She helps them reveal whatever. Most a times they are not true but all deceit” Elias continued. “So if she uses glass to spread deceit why chatter one? Even when she was at the back, I could see a pool of water splash as she passed by it” Rowland asked. “In as much as that is her power, she doesn’t like it herself” Raphael answered, “how? How do you mean?” Rowland asked again. “It reveals her true nature” Raphael answered. “She is the only demon who visits earth frequently because of Humans who call on her for her powers and sometimes she roams about to devour souls while on earth. And because she takes a human form, she shatters any reflecting object so she can stay hidden.” Elias added and Raphael nodded his head in agreement. “and God does nothing about this?” Rowland asked. “Humans have choices to make and some choose the dark ways and so fall victims to her evil. But each time she tries to hunt for a good soul, we the angels intervene and stop her” Raphael explained. Rowland sank into his chair as he let out a sigh of relief. “she needs to be stopped permanently” he said while still relaxing on his chair. “She will soon be stopped” Raphael said. “So tell me how did you know my daughter? Or the better question is, how does my daughter know you?” Rowland asked sitting up. Raphael smiled before answering, “I pay her a visit everyday, take her to school and bring her back. Sometimes I play with her when she’s lonely”. “Does she know you’re an… you know what mean” Rowland said, “No she doesn’t” Raphael answered with a smile as he looked at the young girl playing “Well, it’s a good thing. Now my turn, has God said anything on my next move?” Elias asked , “Yes and this is what it is, you have to go to hell and get into a duel with the devil”, Raphael answered. “WHAT!” both Elias and Rowland exclaimed. This made Rebecca turn towards them, “what’s the matter daddy?” “I’m sorry cupcake, go back to your play okay?” Rowland replied her calmly, “okay” she answered smiling. “So you spent a month up there only to come back and send me on a suicide mission?” Elias protested, “how can I possibly fight with the devil? Even you can’t” he added. “You have to believe in yourself Elias, nothing is impossible” Raphael said calmly. “This is impossible” Rowland spoke, “do you know the last time Elias did that, he got really beaten up” he added. “I know but that was when he wasn’t backed up by divinity but now he is” Raphael said assuring them. “I’m not going to do this. Never” Elias said standing up to leave, “you need to think about Aza and how he would be expecting you so desperately to save him” Raphael replied, “take your time and think this through Elias” Rowland added.
