Chapter 48

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

“Truth be told, you were careless and that would have cost the life of my Rebecca” Rowland said to Dinia. “I’m sorry dear” Dinia apologized, “I promise I won’t risk your daughter’s life anymore” she added.

“We need to be careful as a family watching each other’s back. Lilith is more cunning than Lucifer and also impatient. She will definitely strike soon and we have to anticipate her move” Elias advised before he sat down.

“You know, Elias, you told us a lot about Lilith but never the fact that you were in love with her” Aza pointed out, “it didn’t matter” Elias replied. “What?” Rowland asked surprised, “Elias you loved Lilith?” he asked smiling. “That was a long time ago Rowland. It was obvious she had eyes on someone and so I gave up” Elias replied.

“Who did she love?” Rowland asked, “Lucifer” Elias replied, “it was painful but I had to move on. I knew it will never work” he added looking down. “I am really sorry about that, and believe me when I said I understand how you felt then” Rowland consoled. “You do?” Dinia and Aza chorused.

“Yes and it all started in my high school. I was the nerd, and yes I never wore glasses as it is believed nerds do. But I loved this girl, her name was Emily. She was every guys dream girl. Everyone wanted her” Rowland began to narrate.

FLASH BACK

Young Rowland of 18 years walking along the hall way of his school. Other students are present, either talking to each other, walking or opening their lockers. Emily who is a fair, blond hair young girl of 18 years was coming in front of him.

Rowland swallows hard on seeing her and tried putting on a smile and meeting her eyes with his. She smiled back noticing Rowland’s facial expression and walked passed him. He stops and admires her beauty from behind. “what are beautiful girl” he says to himself, “I have to talk to her one day even if it is to ask for her number” he thought.

The bell rang and gradually, every student entered their classrooms. Rowland is seated at the middle row when Emily enters. There is a vacant seat in front of him and she goes over and sits. “Thank heavens, she is in the same class as I am” he said to himself with a smile growing on his face. “it’s your chance now to talk to her Rowland” he motivated himself, “do it now”.

With a slow movement of his hand he reached out to her shoulder and tapped her gently. “Hello” he said after getting her attention, “hello” Emily replied, “uhm, I’m Rowland, what’s your name?” he asked, “Emily” she replied with a smile. “Wow, what a nice name. I’ll definitely call my daughter that when I get married” he replied and she laughed.

PRESENT DAY

“Wait ! Wait!! Wait!!!” Aza said interrupting Rowland’s story, “Why did you give your daughter Rebecca? You lied to that poor girl”. Everyone in the room laughed, “Well that was just a pick up line” Rowland replied, “so can I continue with my story?” “Yes you can” Elias replied.

FLASH BACK

“So Emily, you are new in this school right?” Rowland asked her, “Oh yes, and I hope I get to love it here. My dad got transferred to this city so here I am wishing I was still in my previous school” Emily replied. “Don’t worry Emily, you will enjoy this school, I assure you this.” Rowland said, “so are you promising me?” she asked with a raised eyebrow. “Well, that promise is only valid only if you stick with me” he replied smiling.

Just then the teacher walked into the classroom, “we’ll talk later” she whispered and turned to face the teacher who was at the front of the classroom.

PRESENT DAY

“To be honest Rowland, you do have the lines” Elias commented, “I am wondering why you didn’t get the girl after this meeting”. “Well a guy came into the picture. As at then I was a skinny but good looking boy and this boy was huge, had the looks, tall and was physically huge” Rowland replied. “and she fell for him right?” Dinia asked and Rowland nodded his head affirmatively.

“The heart loves who it loves” Aza said holding Dinia’s hand smiling. “Alright, alright it’s enough, you guys need to go upstairs and continue that” Elias said pointing at the hands they held together. The two love birds laughed and hurriedly climbed upstairs.

“You know, you are one of a confident boy back then but what happened to the confidence?” Elias asked Rowland after Aza and Dinia were gone, “She broke me” Rowland replied, “I tried making her fall in love with me but she prefers the bad dude. You know Elias, she was the first woman I loved and that rejection made me keep a distance from women until I met Rose” he said to Elias.

“You don’t have to keep thinking about Rose anymore” Elias said as he knew where this was going to, “you have to move one”, “I have moved on Elias” Rowland replied, “You haven’t moved on Rowland, look at Rebecca, she needs a mom. Look at what happened today, if she was with her mom, she won’t be in this mess” Elias pointed out.

“Believe me Elias when I said I have tried, just two days ago I met this wonderful lady but I couldn’t vibe with her. Yes we had s*x but that was it, no feelings attached” Rowland explained. “What about Rebecca’s mother?” Elias asked.

This question made Rowland scratch his head and kept silent before he replied, “she has remarried and has three kids. After the death of Rose, I felt so empty and Rebecca was the only thing that came to mind. I just had to get her”.

Elias stood up from where he sat and went over to Rowland and sat close to him, “You need to send her back” he said calmly. “I can’t do that” Rowland replied, “Yiu have to, look at what happened today. Rebecca’s life is in danger and you have to take her back to where she would be safe till this is over” Elias advised. “I’m saying this because I care and because I have grown fond of Rebecca. Yes Dinia promised she would not loose sight of Rebecca anymore but you don’t have to put all your eggs in one basket Rowland. Take her to her mother!”
