Hunter started gathering camping gear from around Remnie's apartment.She had her fair share, as she worked at a rangers post and rv camp several months a year. She kept her apartment right outside Atlanta paid up so it was always available when she came back to the area. This would be the last they saw of it. It dawned on Hunter who Jonas was to her, and he started laughing. "What's the joke?" Jonas said. "You are her landlord, she paid the year up, she told me when she went to the hospital. You owe her money back for the rest of the year now!" They both laughed now and Jonas replied, "I'll have to owe her, the banks are closed!" "Why did you introduce yourself as a neighbor?"Hunter questioned, "Well I'm both, and I got to know her better after my son met her at the camp. He invited me for a hiking trip and she checked me in at the post and I recognized her as my tenant. Small world.I knew she grew up around there, but I didn't know she had land out there." "Only kinda, our dad and our uncle Frank own some land adjacent to the park lands. Dad owned his own contracting company and Frank has been a park ranger for years. He's dad's step brother so the system got us while Frank was mixxed up with some criminal charges. By the time he got em dropped I had aged out and was getting visitation with Remnie until they deemed me a fit guardian.So the property is his, but if he's there he won't turn us away." Jonas nodded, "So did you know this would be her plan?" Hunter smirked, "I promise you this is just the beginning of her plans. She would have planned this part the first ten minutes into the storm. Remnie is broken in some ways, but there is nobody better at surviving then that girl."
Remnie laid in Alex's arms and rubbed her temples. She had a migraine, it was forming behind her eyes and throbbing. "Let me help you baby." Alex rubbed her temples and stroked her hair. Her hand pushed out from under the blankets and into her bedside drawer, she pulled out a pouch of headache powder and took it quickly with the last cold sips of coffee. "I'm cold Alex and my head feels like it will crack open with this headache." Alex picked her up blankets and all bridal style and headed to the warmth of the fire place. Hunter was gathering items to take with them and stared at Alex as he laid remnie down on the couch and then started pushing the couch closer to the fireplace.Hunter rushed over and helped him
push the couch. "You okay sis? What's wrong?" Alex lifted Remnie's head into his lap and continued to massage her temples. "She has a migraine. She took some headache powder, but it won't be kicking in for awhile. Maybe some water will help."
Jonas went to the balcony and grabbed water bottles for everyone, "I think we should all hydrate. We have a long trip ahead." He passed the water out and Remnie took a few sips and then rested her head on Alex's lap facing towards him. He massaged her scalp gently as Hunter and Jonas began running supplies to her car.She drifted to sleep, when Alex was sure she was out he shifted her off his lap onto a pillow and started packing their hiking bags. He raided her first aid and put a couple towels in the packs along with some clothes, batteries, her maps and compass. He then started a pot of meatless chili on the fire so they could eat prior to leaving. Hunter returned and grabbed the hiking bags and strapped them to the top of the car to save space in the trunk. Jonas grabbed canned and dried goods and lined the floor boards with food. While Jonas was unpacking food into the car Hunter went over to an abandoned truck he spotted.He tried the door and to his surprise it was unlocked! The mechanic began work on disconnecting a CB radio from the truck and installing it into the Volvo. Once installed Hunter flipped through the channels and found Edgar. Edgar briefed him on the road conditions he had gathered and Hunter encouraged Edgar to start using bumper music to boost moral.
