Scarlett’s POV “Make your choice “Xavier said,his voice cold and ruthless. His words didn’t sound like a vow.They sound like an invitation to torture.I felt so threatened. I stood at the altar scared and lost,my heart skipped a bit, my pulse loud in my ears,the sound of my pulse filling the quiet room.The breeze that brushed past me felt unusually strong,the wind pressed against my chest making it difficult to breathe. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.Not with this kind of man.This isn’t my dream,this wasn’t the type of man i have always wanted and prayed for. The big hall glowed with wealth.Crystal lights hung like shining stars above us,casting golden lights across polished marble floors.Every detail screamed perfection.It was designed like a big royal wedding. But beneath all this perfection there was something else.Something dreadful,evil and suffocating.It wasn't just a wedding,It was a bargain.I was being used to pay the price of someone else's actions. He looked at me with a serious face.I felt a slight shiver run through my body. I tried controlling it to meet up with his gaze but I couldn't.For some reasons I felt intimidated by him.Maybe it was the way he looked at me that made me nervous. “I made a big mistake by agreeing to marry this man”, " I said to myself with so much anger.I could have found a solution instead of foolishly agreeing to marry him and signing the legal paperwork he brought to me.I looked into his eyes.They were unreadable and unpredictable. He had an evil look on his face.He looked so satisfied .His eyes were filled with certainty.He looked like someone who already knew how our marriage would end.He looked like he had an evil plan. “Don’t waste my time”He said to me in a low tone with a mean face.Those words weren’t as gentle as they sounded.They sounded mean.I felt like i was being scolded on my own wedding day. No feeling of joy and excitement.It sounded like a rule enforced by a boss.I was angry and scared at the same time. The wedding vows were about to be taken.I couldn’t go back.and I couldn’t say no anymore .It’s too late.I’m already here and everyone has already gathered.There was no going back.I already signed the contract. I was at the ending point.There was no turning back. “What is on your mind “Xavier said to me,"it's almost time for you to say yes or no.My body flickered with fear.The priest noticed we were having a conversation,Then he cleared his throat trying to get our attention. The room suddenly became quiet.Even the sound of a pin drop wasn’t heard .My heart started racing like I had just entered a cult.The universe could tell something was happening.Everyone looked at me .I saw pity in their eyes.I didn't take my eyes off Xavier.He didn’t look happy.There was no smile or any form of excitement .He didn’t react the way other men react when their wife agrees to marry them on their wedding day.He looked like someone who was trying to get revenge for the evil someone did to him. “Good”,he whispered.And that was when it dawned on me that this isn’t coming to an end soon.It was just the beginning. It was Xavier's turn to accept Scarlett as his lawfully wedded wife.Then a voice cut through the silent room. “stop this wedding”Everyone was shocked and surprised.My eyes immediately went to the entrance where the voice came from.”who could that be?”I wondered.I felt a relief i thought i was going to be saved from this bad decision i was about to make.It was a woman.She was elegant,furious,and Familiar. She was the lady I saw having an argument with Xavier last night.Heaven knows what could be going on between them. “What is Camila doing here?”Xavier said with so much anger.Then I realized her name was Camila. Camila walked to the stage,people started murmuring.She took the microphone and said My name is Miss Camila Laurent,I dated Xavier for 13 years .We have been together since high school.Everyone was shocked hearing Camila’s words.Even the faint breeze felt overwhelming against my skin.I didn’t know why I felt bad .I know I didn't want this wedding. As the ceremony continued,my mind shifted back to the moment everything started. Four nights ago.There was a knock on my door.It felt strange and unexpected.I knew I wasn’t expecting anyone.“So who could that be?” I said to myself silently.I opened the door with fear and it was a man dressed in black suit and a shiny black pair of shoes who I haven't seen before .I was scared and confused because I haven't met him before.I rushed to close the door and call for help immediately.Before i could close the door he gripped the door very tight and opened it. “I am not here to harm you,”he said.He walked inside the living room like he owned my house.Like he owned me.“You have two options”Xavier had said,his voice soft as he stood directly in front of me. “Marry me or lose everything that belongs to you,”Xavier said. Immediately I heard those words,my heart skipped a beat. “Are you crazy and what are you talking about?" I asked him confusingly. He burst into laughter like I just cracked a joke.He came closer. He was calm,relaxed,steady and dangerous . “Your father,”he said finally.”Mr. Alfred Hayes.” What about him? “He owes a debt”,he said.His words were simple. “How much did he owe?”I thought it was money. It isn’t a kind of debt money can buy,It is a debt that costs lives. And you have to pay for it. “I would be back tomorrow “,Xavier said .It is the deadline I'm giving you to make a decision.I would be here with some legal paperwork and tomorrow the decision you make decides if you would lose everything or make everything right again. My heart froze.Immediately after he left i received a call from my father .He was pleading with me to agree to marry him and he doesn’t want to lose the little he was able to gain after he went bankrupt.Immediately he hanged up not giving any explanation.Mind you my father was in another country so there was no way i could quickly run to him to ask for answers. The priest called my attention and I realized I was still at my wedding.Something wasn’t right. Nothing felt right.I realized I still don't know the debt my father owed. Xavier forced the ring into my finger.It felt heavy,cold and destined.It was my turn to give him the ring. I put the ring in his fingers confidently .It was a quiet moment.I have never felt this nervous in my entire life. “I now pronounce you husband and wife “.The words echoed loudly in the hall.It felt like the beginning of something new,Something beautiful,and something strong. The people clapped but it was obvious they didn't support the marriage because they didn’t believe it was love.They all didn't look happy after hearing camila’s story.Most of them looked at me with pity. Xavier came close. very close that I could hear how fast his heart was beating .“This marriage isn’t what you think it is"Xavier whispered to me.I tried ignoring him.He tried everything he could to get my attention.
