Chapter 10: Reboot

Despite the dark gloomy clouds filling the sky, pre empting a heavy rain, a child of the age of five with a plump oriental face was rejoicing, her shoulder cut hair bobbed as she hummed while she hopped down a stair and looked back at the front door of her house, cheerfully, she waved, “Goodbye papa, goodbye mama, Anna will be a good kid at school” Dread and sorrow filled his father's eyes, still he forced a smile at her daughter's unusually cheerful behavior. Her daughter had been gloomy for weeks now, but just today, by Gods miracle her daughter had brightened up, this behavior should have been one to celebrate, but the fact that she bid farewell to her mother, who died in a car accident month's ago, broke her father’s heart. "Goodbye Anna, take care at school," her father replied, waving back at his daughter, who was already on her way to the school bus, Anna came to a halt just before the bus and turned around, staring back at her father. She yelled a sentence that was full of her love and excitement, yet elicited fear and panic in her father. “Oh right hehe, Goodbye, Mr. Demon” Beyond where the father was standing is a silhouette of a person concealed beneath the darkness, seated on an inclined chair with his legs crossed and his chin resting on his fist… Along with a spark of his green pupils, he waved back and beamed a smile towards Anna. “Goodbye Anna” he whispered, - Following my father's announcement, I spent the last three months in his duchy, where I learned many surprising things, the most shocking of which is that Yewah the one revered as God, and Azam, the Demon Overlord, are both dead. I've always been curious as to what dying means in the demon world, which isn't that different from the human world; the demons simply don't know, but their Overlord believed that we simply return to the flow of mana with our consciousness ceasing to exist. The God that humanity worshipped and the Devil that they despised were not omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent beings, but rather an advanced species who had discovered them. Thousands of years ago, two celestial brothers who transcended their species limits, Yewah and Azam, ventured out to explore the world out of curiosity. Yewah had discovered Earth, the home of the so-called humans who absorbed their planet's mana and were able to purify it in some way using their bodies, giving birth to a more refined form of mana that Yewah called life force, thus he planted a desire in the so-called humans, that desire was to procreate, and sure enough, just like animals in heat, they began to do so, filling the earth endlessly. However, Azam disagreed with this decision, he felt pity and compassion for the humans who are simply used as a form of battery, when they should be evolving to conscious beings, so Azam granted them a gift, that gift was the ability to discern what is right from wrong. Furious at his little brother’s interference Yehwah had waged war, rounding up those who had supported him from their home planet Eden, those that had supported Azam, on Azam’s command escaped to helliun, which Yehwah and his army followed, sensing their eradication Azam ripped the space around helliun and conjured a mana barrier with the intent to protect and guide those that had followed him, after deeming his magic nearly complete, he single handedly fought his brothers army but was shocked when his brother Yehwah, joined in using the new form of mana known as life force, Yehwah had easily hacked Azam into two, as a response, Azam gathered all the mana around and planned on self destructing, he gave a message to those in Helliun, that is to study the new form of mana on Earth while also exercising love upon the humans, before bursting into several stars devouring Yehwah and some of his army. The remains of Yewah's army, known as angels in human terms, returned to Eden and continued to influence Earth, while those in Helliun, known as demons, became separated. At Azam's instruction, the demons devised Summon, a magic that connected Earth and Helliun. That was the history so far, but I may have forgotten some of the important details because focusing and remembering were two of my weak points, especially if your educators are easily distracted, tsk Esteroth, do your job properly, well, it wasn't like I was interested in such histories anyway, might as well attend my next class, I left Esteroth's happy pill, which was a library much larger than those on Earth, and went to Elena's laboratory, which contained stacks and stacks of papers, as well as an engineer's tools, instead of test tubes and flask. Mana-powered magic appeared complicated at first, but handling and drawing a magic formation was as simple as breathing. Granted, the teacher's ability to be both capable and terrifying may have played a role, but I now understand the basics of magic. First, draw a circle with a star in the center, then fill it with your intent and mana, as well as a demonic letter that corresponds to your wish, Complicated magic's such as teleporting, erecting a barrier, changing forms, storing mana, and so on are instead manufactured by alchemists and processed into these rough looking papers, which are incredibly addictive kufufufu, enough drooling you addict. Elena was unfazed by such intricate magic because she possessed the yellow Eyes of Reckon, which could easily solve certain arithmetic problems, ah please Elena, let's switch eyes. My body had been tingling with anticipation since the day I received my Entha, anticipating the day I would be able to form contracts, a product of alchemist research that serves as a storage for the pure refined mana of humans. As to why we need such mana, the so-called life force of humans serves as a coating for the demons sword, similar to a battery of a light saber, which is the only tool capable of cutting its mortal enemy, plus it also serves as an adrenaline shot giving demons that already has the strength of a hundred human a boost. I prepared to make my way to the open field of the mansion, where my brother Heather normally waited, in line to fulfilling my father's desire to study the art of sword fighting. I got the bright notion of fighting with a pistol, however bullets covered in mana don't work because the mana dissipates as soon as it leaves the user's body, so how about a contract loaded with life force linked to a bullet? I inquired of Elena, but contracts, like mana, would only work if the user was in contact, leaving the demons with melee weapons as their only option, What about spears? It has a range advantage, but Elena dismissed the idea once more, explaining that a spear is too long and would require a lot more mana to coat, but why do we need to coat our weapons with mana or life force anyway? With a sigh and a hint of annoyance in her eyes, she replied once more, "Our bodies, unlike those of humans, are laid bare, we do not have those shells of flesh, instead our bodies are purely made out of Mana, and the only way to destroy it is through the use of an intent filled mana...Ingrol made it possible to convert humans using this logic as its base." - Two demons focused their stares at one another on a flat grass field, one with a calculative yellow pupil and one capable of reading the flow of mana. “Are you ready, my younger brother” challenged Heather, Calix motioned his brother to "bring it on" by waving his palm inwards. Calix had never been able to make it to two moves before, always being beaten down by heather with a single strike, but he had a strong feeling that today time would be different. Heather made quick movements and went for Calix head, in response Calix twisted his body to generate speed, and the swords met with a clang... Calix was able to successfully counter.
