Blake threw the blanket off of her and when Arthur saw her, eyes and hair glowing bright gold, he screamed and fell off the bed with a loud thud.
“What’s going on up there?” mom asked. She was standing by the stove frying the scrambled eggs.
"Nothing mom, we're good. Arthur just fell off his chair and hurt his elbow but he's fine," Blake responded.
"You guys be careful alright?”
"O.k.”
Mom added a cube of salted butter to the eggs and continued frying them as upstairs, Arthur was freaking out. He crawled to the other side of the bed and for a good while he just knelt there looking at her with his eyes widened and his mouth agape; what on earth was he looking at?
“Ha!” he went, failing to believe his own eyes. It was the Blake he knew and cared very deeply for but her eyes and her hair were glowing gold? Why were her eyes and her hair glowing gold? “Dude . . . What did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything. I just woke up this morning and all of this was going on.”
“Your eyes.”
“Yes my eyes,” Blake said, aware of how freakish they looked.
“And your hair.”
“Yes my hair too. I’ve tried to put it down but it keeps going back up.”
She pushed it back and again it floated back up.
“Ah!” Arthur yelped. “Bro, what did you do?”
"I promise I didn’t do anything. I just woke up and I was like this."
“Clearly you must have done something.”
“I didn’t do anything,” she said.
“So what is this? What’s going on?”
“I don’t know.” She kept a straight face for a few seconds but then scrunched it up as she gave out a quiet but hefty groan. “O.k. so . . . Maybe I do know.”
Arthur slowly stood up, giving her a dubious look. “Blake . . . Do you have an idea as to why your eyes are glowing and your hair looks like it’s on fire?”
“Yes I do.”
“O.k. good. Please fill me in. Why are your eyes glowing and why does your hair look like it’s on fire?” he asked and she gave out a weakened sigh.
“It’s because of The Golden Quintessence.”
“I’m sorry, The Golden Quintessence the game that you're playing?”
“Yes,” Blake answered.
“What does the game have to do with what’s happening to you?”
“Arthur . . . The game has everything to do with what’s happening to me.”
“O.k.,” he said unconvinced as Blake walked to the other side of the bed and grabbed The Golden Quintessence booklet off the bedside, and handed it to him.
“Page 10.”
Arthur opened the booklet to page 10 and when he saw the levitating image of Lila on it, he gasped as inside that strange eerie feeling that came over him every single time he touched the cover of the game, came over him again, much stronger than before, so much so he dropped it to the floor.
Blake wanted to pick it up but he stopped her.
“No don’t,” he said.
“What?” she wondered.
“I knew it . . . I knew there was something off about this game.”
“What? What’s going on?”
“Blake, remember that time I asked you if you got a weird feeling when you played the game? I brushed it aside but you remember right?” Arthur asked.
“Yeah I do.”
“I brushed it aside because I didn’t want to freak you out because I got a weird feeling when I touched the cover and I wanted to know if you got the same weird feeling too. Do you get the same weird feeling too?”
“No I don’t,” Blake said wondering on. “Why?”
“You don’t feel a sinister presence when you play the game?”
“Sinister?? No Arthur goodness, what are you talking about?”
“Where did you get this game from?” he asked.
“I told you from the game store. The same place where I got all my other games from. Why??”
“At first I thought it was just me being funny or whatever but now that I’ve experienced for the second time the weird feeling that came over me when I touched the game the first time, I’ve realized that it’s the Holy Spirit telling me something.”
“And what’s that?” she asked, already certain that she wasn’t going to like the answer.
“Blake . . . This game is evil. It is demonic and you have to stop playing it right now.”
“Whoa stop playing it? No.”
“What do you mean no? Did you not hear what I just said? The game is evil, it has demons inside it,” Arthur said.
“Dude come on, it’s just a game.”
“How many times am I going to have to tell you this bro? Nothing is not just anything, everything is always something and if you don’t open your eyes and guard yourself from the evils that are out there, they’re going to devour you until there’s none of you left. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5 Verse 22 that we must abstain from every form of evil; music, movies, fashion, video games, everything. Not all of it is bad but if it’s blatant exaltation to the devil and his darkness, then we must keep ourselves as far away from it as possible because these are all tools that the devil is using to get us to corrupt our purity, desecrate our consecration and waste away our ordination, and if we don’t see them for what they are which are weapons against our righteousness and holiness, we will fall into darkness and perish. We’re supposed to shun evil and depart from it and do good by keeping the word of God, so that come the final day we can be transubstantiated into eternal glory; for He is life and sin is death. Proverbs Chapter 11 Verse 19 ‘As righteousness leads to life, so he who pursues evil pursues it to his death.’ That’s what the devil wants us to do, he wants us to pursue these foolish earthly things so that he can keep us distracted long enough to harvest our souls, so that by the time we realize what’s going on, we’re dead and it’s too late. These are the end of days Blake and we need to wake up. Ephesians Chapter 5 Verse 14 tells us to arise from the dead. We’re dead because of our sinful ways, because of our indulgence in the things that God has declared to be abominations and if we continue to indulge in those evil things, then we will remain dead and God is not the God of the dead, He is the God of the living, Mark Chapter 12 Verse 27, and the only way to live is through Jesus Christ the Holy Lamb of God for He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him, John Chapter 14 Verse 6.”
Blake stood quiet as she processed his words. She heard what he was saying but she didn’t like it. Stopping to play The Golden Quintessence when the journey was even juicier now than it was before, had he lost his mind? No. She didn’t want to do that at all. She listened when Arthur spoke on Christian women and girls not wearing pants and tight clothing and had even begun to implement the change into her life, but this was different; stopping to play The Golden Quintessence was so different because unlike short and tight clothing, she loved video games. She fell in love with them when she was just ten years old and she had been playing them ever since; they were a part of her life. There was no Blake without video games, that was who she was, it was her identity and now he wanted her to not just stop playing the game that she had lauded as being the best game she had ever played, but stop playing her other games too, no, she did not want to do that at all.
“Please Blake, you have to promise me that you’re not going to play The Golden Quintessence again, please,” he said, not just looking out for her wellbeing but for her soul as well.
“But it’s not even a bad game, there’s no foul language or gore. The only character that bleeds is mine, and even when she bleeds, it’s not like The Hills Run Red, it’s very minimal,” she said. “And the villains, they get beaten to a pulp but all they do is get cut, wounded and bruised, that’s it. No blood.”
“That’s not the point. It doesn’t matter if the game is about collecting flowers or helping strangers, if there are demons inside it, then it’s a bad game and you have to stop playing it.”
“I can’t just stop playing the game Arthur, I have to finish it.”
“No you don’t, the game is evil, you need to stop playing it right now. In fact, you need to get rid of it.”
“What like throw it out?”
“Yes,” Arthur answered boldly.
“Are you high?? No! I have to see how it ends.”
“Oh my goodness, are you listening to the words that are coming out of my mouth? No!”
“Dude come on, Lila and William are on the verge of acquiring the second piece of the ancient golden scrolls,” Blake said.
“I don’t care if they’re on the verge of acquiring the last piece of the ancient golden scrolls, you are not playing that evil game ever again. Goodness Blake, this is not a negotiation, it is spiritual warfare and if you don’t wake up and armour yourself for battle, the devil is going to defeat you and succeed is damning your soul to hell. Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians Chapter 6 Verse 12 that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Our biggest enemies are the ones we can’t see, the ones who are in charge of the dissemination of demons in the movies we watch, the music we listen to, the fashion trends we follow and the video games we play, all of these industries are run by dark princes whose main agenda is to keep people blinded with ignorance, money, vanity and fame. Their main agenda is to keep people from knowing the truth so that they can die in sin and go to hell. But we can’t let that happen, as sons and daughters of the Most High God it is our responsibility to preach the Gospel to as many people as we can, for it is only through the Holy Word of God that mankind shall know the truth and be redeemed and be saved. And so here I am preaching that Gospel to you so that you shall know the truth and that the truth shall make you free, John Chapter 8 Verse 32,” he said. “Please Blake, you have to stop playing that game; it is a door through which you’re allowing demons to enter your life and if you continue to play it, that door will remain open and every Jim and Jack demon out there is going to enter your life and torment you and destroy your destiny. And they’ll have all the right in the world to do so because you gave them VIP access. Sin gives demons access into our lives and so the best way to keep them away from us, is to depart from sin and live holy lives.”
Blake just stood there giving him a look. “Dude, I called you here to help me, this is not you helping me.”
“What do you mean this is not me helping you? This is me helping you in the best way I possibly can because Jesus is the solution to every problem.”
“O.k. good, Jesus is the solution to every problem great, so what is He going to do about this?” she asked continuing to freak out over her drastic change in appearance; her eyes and her hair were glowing bright gold and she desperately needed them to go back to normal because obviously she couldn’t leave the house looking like that, so what was she going to do? He was talking a good game but he wasn’t providing an actual solution on how they were going to deal with what was going on with her and it was beginning to frustrate her.
“Don’t worry, Jesus doesn’t need to show up, He abides within all those who have surrendered themselves to Him and so if I’m here then so is He. I’ll help you.”
