Chapter 14: ReservationsFor his tour of the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Museum, the congressman had brought along nine family members and friends and a wiry fiftyish man with a high-end Nikon. The photographer stood by the doorway shooting his boss's arrival with his Indian guide. Everyone else was nosing around inside the wooden igloo. In the center of the dirt floor, an oval of stones outlined a fire pit. A pair of forked branches supported a sapling which appeared to double as a roasting spit and a rod to hang cooking pots. An open smoke-hole in the roof overhead let in light. The hut was unexpectedly bright, thanks partly to white curtains lining the bark walls. Slender wooden pillars held everything in place, including a wide shelf around the perimeter. To sleep on? Sit on? Eat on? The
