“Michael, your four o’clock appointment cancelled.” The receptionist poked her head through the door to say, then hustled back to her office. “Oh s**t, I forgot I had one.” I mumbled to myself and leaned back in the chair, propping my feet on the desk. My normal, bland world had faded away as soon as I’d laid eyes on Spencer. Seeing him had provoked major butterfly action in my gut - something I hadn’t felt for anyone since we parted twenty years ago. That in itself was cause for concern. I’d prided myself on being a lone shark in a sea of men, swooping in on my prey and getting what I wanted before pesky feelings developed in myself, or my lover for the night. “Recreational love is what it’s supposed to be, not this crap.” I said aloud, grateful Dad wasn’t here to see me in this state.
