Samantha's POV
I stretched my hands across the bed, turning in it as well. I could still remember how Alaric and I were cuddled in bed the entire night. His scent filled my senses, giving me the sensations I once despised but now couldn't have enough of. I tried to open my eyes, but a ray of sunshine hit them harshly, causing me to shut them again. The harshness settled, and I tried again. This time my eyes adjusted to the light.
I pushed my hand further into the bed, craving to feel Alaric, but his side was empty, though his scent still lingered. My heart suddenly leaped, and I jolted out of bed, dread flooding my heart.
"Alaric!" I called, maybe a little too loud.
