PT 1 CHAPTER ONE: THE ORIGIN
On a very dark and cold night in the home of the Lorcán's, Alde, a brown skinned, and huge man tells Jarek, a light skinned boy, a story from a book.
Jarek's room was filled with vampires and werewolf pictures stuck to the wall, a chair, and a table filled with different mystery books, and a lamp stand.
Jarek and Alde both have the same hair colour which is black, but Jarek's hair was packed to the back, while Alde's hair was short.
They both maintained their handsomeness even though they have different skin tones, you can still guess that Jarek is Alde's son.
Alde sat at the edge of the bed reading a book to Jarek who was lying down on the bed.
"In Passa City where peace reigned amongst the humans, but during the 1700s war in Passa between the Valgo's and Shova's. The Shova's found out about the supernatural beings lurking around the east side in the outskirts of the city, and they secretly went there to check for themselves.
Somehow the Valgo's heard about their secret mission, but they were wrongly informed, and they journeyed down the west side instead of the east.
The Shova's found a bunch of vampires in the woods. They were all frightened, tragedy struck them positively as an elder of the vamps asked what they were searching for.
"What art thou sought?" The elder of the vamps putting on a cloven whose polo reached halfway of his head asked them.
The eldest of the Shova's who followed them answered. "We are at war with a fellow clan, and we need your help"
"You need our help?"
"Yes"
"What can we possibly offer you uncircumcised humans?"
The humans shivered, staring aimlessly on the floor.
"What can we offer you!" The elder of the vamps asked again.
Frightfully, one of the humans answered,"your power. Power of immortality"
"You want to be like us, isn't it?"
"Ye-es"
"What are you going to offer us in return?" The elder of the Vamps asked.
The Shova's promised to give the vamps seven of their children every year. Whilst, the Valgo's met with the werewolves at the end of a cliff on the Westside of Passa.
Both the elders of the Valgo's and Shova became supernatural beings. They went to the city, and infected the rest of their people, and the war continued.
The Shova's found out that they can't walk during daylight, havoc struck the Shova's because of this. They surrendered into the deep depths of the woods, and peace reigned again in Passa. The peaceful reign was short-lived as seven men who were both friends with the Valgo's and the Shova's collected vampire and werewolf blood.
They locked themselves in the upper room in a hotel, and they drank the mixture of the blood. Nothing happened at first, but in the late hours of the day, they began to shake profusely, and they all died. During the aftermath of their death, one of them slapped the remains of the blood on the table as it spilled on the ground. It escaped through a small hole leading downstairs.
A man named Caesar slept soundly with his mouth wide open. The blood dripped down into his mouth, and he drank it unknowingly. The man was a witch of the first order, he ran away seeking refuge in Passa City because of a clash between the First Order Witches and the Second Order of Witches. He survived, and became the combination of a vampire, werewolf, and a witch.
He brought peace to all, but the Second Order of Witches did not support this. They brainwashed humans that with time, supernatural beings would make their kind extinct from this world. The humans were scared, and they asked the Second Order of Witches for help.
The Second Order of Witches sacrificed 12 witches to empower the humans, and they named themselves, "Predatory". With this, The Predatory killed Caesar, and they were all divided once again, and up till now… They remained divided.
"Wow! Divided into how many parts?" Jarek asked his father.
"Let me crawl before walking," Alde laughed, and continued. "Into four parts. Valgo City, Passa City, Firow City, and Secoy City. But, before Caesar's death, a law was passed, and this made all become one even though they are not."
"And what's the name of this city?" Jarek curiously asked.
"It is not a city, a state nor a country. But, it was named, Tesla"
"Wow. Where can I see any supernatural being?" Jarek said.
"They lived in the forest, you can't possibly go there. It is dangerous" Alde warned.
Jarek was about to ask another question when Vanessa entered.
"Okay Boys, time to snap out of fantasy. Do you think those are real?" Vanessa said as she walked towards Jarek. "It is just a story, don't get excited or worked up" She told Jarek, and Jarek nodded.
Looking at Vanessa you will know where he got his fair skin tone from. Jarek took the most beautiful physique of his parents, and left them with their flaws.
They both planted a kiss on Jarek's cheek.
"Goodnight," They both said.
"Goodnight Dad, goodnight Mom"
Alde walked out of the room. "I love you Son," Vanessa confessed, turning off the lights.
"Love you too Mom," Jarek replied, turking himself, and adjusting himself to his most comfortable sleeping posture.
"Do you think he would be able to avoid the upcoming war?" Alde asked Vanessa as they both walked to the sitting room.
"He is still a child, Alde,"
"No, he is not. What if something bad happens?"
"Nothing bad is going to happen,"
They both argued under their breath.
NEXT MORNING AT THREE PAST SEVEN, Askarvard was as icy as ever. Vanessa dressed Jarek, and Alde prepared his bag and foodpack.
"Make sure you make him wear his cardigan!" Alde screamed from the kitchen.
"I don't want to wear a cardigan Mom"
Vanessa buttoned up his shirt, went over to the wardrobe, and brought out his cardigan, "You shouldn't wear it unless you want cold to finish you up before closing time," Vanessa threatened.
They all exited the house. The Lorcán's lived in an estate, their house was a modest modern building in a quiet neighbourhood. The mangrove trees around their house stirred lazily in the gentle breeze as the cold pierced their bones through their thick clothing they all wore.
Jarek hurriedly ran to the front seat of the truck, and locked the door behind him.
Sitting at the front seat is one of the places Jarek loved sitting in the truck. He bade his Mom goodbye as Alde drove off.
Alde dropped him off at the school gate. Jarek attended Askarvard College. Askarvard College is the only school in Askarvard after the disaster that struck Askarvard fifty years ago where 33% of their population died during those periods.
Alde bade Jarek goodbye as he drove to his workplace. Alde worked with Askarvard Magazine Publishing Company, that's why Jarek was able to gain more of the students and teachers trust because Alde was a very nice man who loved to see people happy, he can go an extra mile to see you happy.
Jarek entered the schoolgate, and met with his best friend Angelo Pastoré. Angelo Pastoré has been Jarek's best friend since grade two. Angelo used to be bullied in school for no reason at all known to Jarek. Jarek once overheard their discussion about shifting whenever they bullied him, he had asked him about it, but Angelo does not like talking about it, maybe it is some sort of family secret. Jarek saved him from the bullies regardless.
" I don't know if he is being bullied at home, but here in school, I won't allow that '' was Jarek's motto whenever he sees Angelo being bullied, and Angelo was glad he found a friend. Jarek is neither big nor small as a kid, he took the stature of his mother, and slightly taken the tall-figure of his father, apparently, his physique is close to perfect, if not perfect. Everyone loved Jarek in school, and that gave him an edge with the bullies.
"Why are you not putting on a cardigan?" Jarek asked Angelo
"I don't think I needed it," Angelo answered.
"Wow, I wish my parents were here to see this right now," Jarek whispered to himself. They both walked through the schoolgate, greeted the time keeper.
"Welcome to a new term, young boys!" The gatekeeper greeted both of them.
They stood at ease, stomped their feet on the ground, raised their hands, and stood at attention, "Aye! Aye!! Captain!". They shouted. They further walked past the gatekeeper's cabal, and further into the school.
Karen Forbes hastily walked down the corridor in a mansion building occupying 22 witches. Karen Forbes is the eldest and the leader of the First Order of Witches. But, humans are not aware of Witches in Askarvard, because if they find out, death awaits them all, so they keep this a secret from all.
Karen opened a door leading to Cassy's room. Cassy is Karen's only daughter, the apple of her eyes, she is 8, the same age as Jarek, Angelo, and co. She has scars made from something sharp and long, her red hair packed neatly from her head, and dangling on her shoulders, her brown eyebrows supporting the golden colour of her eyes, the lightness of her skin, and the perfect white of her teeth. Cassy had shown all the witches of the first order her special power of command, anything she says with command is final.
"Cassy! You will be late for school!,"
Cassy was calmly dressing up as she gazed upon her mother. "I know. I will be done soon,"
"Why are you this calm? It seems as if you have two hours to spare. It is just one minute to your assembly time!," Karen exclaimed looking at the wristwatch tightly placed around her wrist. "You know this is your first day in school," Karen reduced the tone of her voice, sitting down on Cassy's bed.
"Why do you panic?" Cassy asked.
Karen ignored her question, stood up, and left. "I'll be waiting for you outside," Karen informed Cassy.
"Okay Mum," Cassy notified, smiling as she saw her Mom leave her presence.
Karen patiently waits inside her Mini car. Luckily for her, Cassy emerged greeting her other kind. "Good morning everyone" Cassy greeted.
"Good morning Cassy," They all greeted each other sequentially as they continued what they were doing.
Cassy bowed down to the rest of them she met on the way, and they all returned the gesture. Cassy is a very nice girl, and gives respect to whom respect is due. She entered her mum's car. "Do you have to take this car every time?" Cassy asked.
"You don't want them to always stare at us if we take the bus," Karen responded and zoomed off. "Your seatbelt please," Karen tapped Cassy's thighs.
The journey was silent. Cassy read signboards, thinking of unknown things that would happen in the coming days if she starts schooling here.
The car halted in front of the school gate, and they both got off. Cassy stared at the beauty and gigantism of the school, but got irritated almost immediately.
"Do I have to go to school here? - I mean what if--"
"No what ifs Cassy, for you to overcome your fear, you need to face it,"
"What if---"
"Not again Cassy"
They kept silent for 15 seconds. Karen looked at Cassy.
"Mum--"
"Don't you dare use that command tone for me," Karen warned, pointing her finger at Cassy.
When Cassy sees she is losing a conversation or an argument, she'd always use her command tone for whomever she argues with. At a very young age that's how she wins competitions. Don't term her bad, she just hates to lose, and now it seems she is losing to her Mom.
"I am not trying to use it on you, Mom. But, try and understand my plight," She said, staring at her Mom who is watching her attentively, and she continued "You see, if one of them harghh arghhh" She mimicked the transformation of the werewolves, "and they tear me apart! You know you told me we weren't supposed to use magic in this city," Cassy explained.
Karen looked at her daughter, she sighed and smiled. She bent down to look at Cassy at eye level. "This is for the sake of our kind, if you are not strong, bold, courageous, we would not last 5years after my departure. So, do this for Mom, and the rest of our kind," She said as she stood back uprightly, "No students are allowed to shift here in school, and I'll be here after the school closes to pick you up, in case a fight occurs between you, and another person," Karen added.
Now, Cassy just lost the argument, and she felt defeated. But, as Cassy Norman, possessing the never-give-up attitude, she told her Mom, "If I don't see you here a minute after closing time, I will have to withdraw from this school,"
Karen laughed, staring at her daughter, "A nice way to back out, you would surely see me when school closes," Karen assured. "Why don't we enter, and complete the final registration," Karen said, and they both walked into the school.
"Mom, do we really have to do this?" Cassy asked her mother as they greeted the gatekeeper who in turn directed them towards the proprietor's office. Cassy's plight was ignored when the gatekeeper responded to Karen's gesture.
"Good morning Ma'am,"
"Morning, please can you direct me to the proprietor's office, please,"
The gatekeeper pointed towards the main entrance of the biggest building in the school. "You will go down straight up the big building you are looking at over there. It is painted in white," The Gatekeeper responded.
It was rumoured that the white building was owned by the white wolves before their extinction during the outbreaks of the vamps 55 years ago. The reigning werewolf clan later chased away the vamps after killing most of them. But, every white wolf was killed.
Karen and Cassy walked down to the white, big building.
"Mom, do we really have to do this?" Cassy asked again, just in case her mother did not hear. Karen looked at her beloved daughter, and could sense fear in her, and she was slightly touched on how life might be miserable for her, but she also knows that if she doesn't do this now, it would become worse in the future.
"I'm sorry, I wish there was a better choice," Karen replied.
They entered the building. It was vacant as expected. All students ought to be in their various classes by now, Karen thought. She followed the description of the gatekeeper, and it landed her in another vacant hallway; a smaller hallway. Across the hallway, there are six doors on each side. They walked through the passage, and landed themselves at the last door by their left as the gatekeeper had instructed. The door reads, "Proprietor's Office"
"I guess we came to the right place, I thought it would be hard to get here," Karen said, knocking on the door, and entered without permission.
The proprietor is a young mister, beardless, no moustache either, his lips were pink, and he has blue eyes, making a bright face glow in the almost dimmed room. He looked at Karen and Cassy as they both entered. Karen bowed down to greet the young proprietor, and Cassy did the same.
"Good morning Sir," Karen greeted, poking Cassy who was lost looking at the handsome mister to do the same.
Cassy looked at her Mom, then towards the proprietor, "Good morning Sir,"
The proprietor gestured, telling them to take their seats.
"My name is Dylan, and I'm the proprietor of this dearly esteemed school. What brings you here?" Dylan, the proprietor introduced himself, and in turn, asked them a question.
Karen adjusted herself on her seat as she replied to Dylan. "My name is Karen, and this is my daughter, Cassy. This is her first time here, and I will love her to start schooling here. We have completed the necessary registration, and we came to get the papers signed by you,"
"Okay, can I see them?" Dylan asked. Karen dipped her hands into her bag, brought out some documents, and placed them on the table. Dylan took the documents, checking them one after the other. He stamped the necessary documents, returned the documents back to Karen.
"All done, you can now take your leave," Dylan said.
"Thank you, proprietor," Karen replied.
"Stop with the formalities, just call me Dylan," Dylan retorted, and Karen bowed down to Dylan. Dylan directed his gaze to Cassy.
"Enjoy your stay here in Askarvard," Dylan said smiling as Karen and Cassy exited Dylan's office. They bumped into another person who was trying to enter Dylan's office.
"Sorry," Karen apologized, and the young man bowed down to them as he entered Dylan's office.
"Who was that?" The young man asked Dylan who was sipping a coffee.
"Wow! That man is too young to be the proprietor of this school," Karen complained, "I wasn't even myself throughout," Karen added.
"I thought I was the only one that noticed," Cassy said.
"You noticed too!" Karen exclaimed, "Wait, you are too young to be noticing what I noticed," Karen's curiosity rose.
"What do you mean Mom? What are you insinuating?"
"Nothing,"
"Really? I was sure I wasn't thinking about anything other than how young he is to be the proprietor of the school," Cassy said as they both exited the building.
"Why do you ask me that question?" Dylan asked the young man who entered his office.
"Nothing, I smell fresh blood," The young man responded.
"Figo, don't try anything stupid," Dylan coldly warned.
Figo is Dylan's personal assistant, he is facially dark, and his long dreadlocks almost touching his shoulders looked so tidy, and black.
He grinned, showcasing his white teeth. "I wasn't trying to do anything, I was just thirsty for fresh blood," he said, licking his lips.
"Quench your thirst with fear, Figo, don't touch any of these students, unless you want your 156 years to abruptly come to an end," Dylan warned.
Dylan took some papers on the table, stapled the papers together, and handed it to Figo, "Take this to the Chairman's office," Figo collected the papers, and exited Dylan's office.
