6PM everywhere is getting dark, and most people have retired to their houses. Streetlights made sure the environment is not dark, and some men talking under the half moon.
In the Lorcán's house, they just finished their meal, and were about to let their food digest before they all head on to bed.
They sat silently watching TV. Alde felt his temple with his fingers, Vanessa watched him quietly, still wondering what Alde is keeping from her, and Jarek on the other hand is straight up not concentrating on the TV, but his eyes were fixed on the TV -- He hated CNN, and I think he will always hate it.
"I'll be out for a while." Alde notified. He stood up, took his phone, and went out. Jarek was a little bit happy that his father was going out. "Now, it remains one." He whispered, stealing a glance at his Mom.
"Won't you go to bed Mom."
Vanessa looked at him. "I should be asking you that." Vanessa responded.
"Are you not going to the hospital in the morning?"
"Shift Jarek. I will be going in the afternoon."
"Ooh" Jarek hoped she wouldn't send him off to bed, he just dawned on him that it was a wrong move, and he shouldn't have said anything. But, he is not always far away from a nag. "Mom, can I switch the station?"
Vanessa stared at Jarek -- the tic, pause, and the tic again. She checked the time. "You have one hour." Jarek was extremely happy. "Have you done your homework?"
"Yes, I have" He responded immediately as if he was expecting his mother to ask him. Vanessa stared outside the window, hoping she would see Alde, but she didn't.
"Where has he gone?" She asked herself.
8PM Edward lying peacefully on the long chair, staring at the chandelier hanging slightly above his head. The TV was on, but no one was watching it. Max emerged from his room, and sat on one of the chairs.
"Dad?"
Edward shifted his position just to look at his son who was calling him.
"Yes son,"
"I want to ask a very sensitive question." Edward sat uprightly. A serious question coming from Max always made him speechless for some time, and he knows this won't be different.
"Alright… Shoot"
"Is there a side to you that I am not aware of?" Max asked. The inner bang, the stare, the waiting. As usual, he was silent for 15 seconds. The last time this happened was when he asked about his Mom. Edward always answer deep within him saying, "It isn't time for you to know, Son" then he lied to his son, "Your Mom is aware in the states, and won't be back unless you focus on your studies." Edward always feels the sharp pain within him anytime he lies to his son. Since when Max's Mom died a very painful death in the hands of the Vampires. When Max was born, the doctor always said, "It is a miracle you are giving birth at this time… this is your 8th month, and you are healthy, so is your baby." 8years ago, if she had known she would die on that fateful night, she would have left with a beautiful recorded goodbye speech for her son.
Finally, the words are out. "Not that I can think of." Edward replied, placing Max on the edge, and rid him of any question he will ask regarding his secrets. Edward went inside his room before Max could think about any question he had.
"Going to bed already?"
"No, I just wanted to use the bathroom."
"Okay"
We would have lost count on the footsteps Karen had taken since she had been pacing back and forth in the room. Cassy watched her every five seconds after reading a few lines from the book in her hands.
"What is wrong Mom?"
"Nothing"
"You have been doing this for over 15minutes now." Karen stopped walking. "Why don't you take a walk outside, and stroll for as long as you want." Cassy suggested.
Karen paused to give it some thoughts, and finally she agreed. She took her coat, and left the room.
"Be careful!" Cassy shouted.
"I will." Karen answered.
The streetlights shine brighter anytime Alde walks under it. He was feeling a sharp pain in his head. He saw some adult folks talking about politics, and how they should scrap The Pentagon. Alde's ear was unnecessarily filled with talks about politics, and he is not interested in any, and made sure Jarek won't follow that path. He wanted Jarek to become a doctor who would save people's lives, and present a meaningful life to everyone. "Dreams of a father to his son." He said, and smiled.
The smile was short-lived when he bumped into Karen. They had both said sorry to each other before finding out they knew each other.
"What are you doing here?" Alde asked.
"I'm in my neighbourhood." Karen answered.
Alde looked around, and saw he had strolled past his house.
"s**t" He cursed, still rubbing his temple.
Karen noticed, and asked him if he was okay. Alde nodded his head in response to Karen's question.
"Why are you out here by this time?" Karen asked, staring at Alde.
"I lost track of where I was. I will head home now."
He turned around to leave. Karen stopped him.
"You don't feel alright." Karen said.
"Yes, I am. It is just a slight headache. I'll be calm before tomorrow." Alde assured.
Mistakes and regrets go hand to hand. Karen's happiness is the size of her problems, she feared that Alde would know how murderous he can be with the sleeping beast inside of him. She cursed Kyla for making that portion. Suddenly, she dipped her hand in her pocket, and saw an extra portion of what she gave Alde in the morning.
"I don't know the quantity of what he had taken." She thought, calling out to Alde. "This would suppress the pain." She hoped she was right. "Take this." She said,
Alde stopped rubbing his temple, he made eye contact with Karen. "What did you just say?" He looked serious.
"Take this." She repeated herself, pointing the bottle at Alde.
Memories flood in. He remembered the last conversation he had with Karen 8 years ago.
"Take this." Karen pointed a cup at Alde.
"What is inside?" Alde asked suspiciously.
"It will heal you." Karen said.
Alde screamed out loud. The pain is becoming unbearable, and Karen could feel it. He remembered the incident that happened where he killed vampires, especially the one he had ripped off a baby's head. He screamed as he remembered his bad past.
"I'm a beast." He whispered, but Karen could hear him.
"You are not." Karen answered, fearing he might turn into a beast.
"Yes I am!!" He shouted, kneeling down, and growling in pain.
Karen didn't know what to do. Her impulse is failing her, and her sixth sense has run away for its life. She looked around, but the streets were empty. She checked the time, it was 9:22PM. Alde kept growling.
He began to tear his clothes, furs started growing on his body, his fingers longer, teeth longer, and sharper. Karen watched in amazement.
"Run away!" Alde shouted. "I said run!!" Alde commanded, and Karen didn't know when she took off. Alde screamed a little bit longer than previous times. He transformed into a beast looking like a wolf. Ten times bigger than any werewolf. It was fierce, standing on its feet, parted his arms, raised his head, and let out a resounding scream.
Hugo, Dylan, Boaz, Karen who is still running home, Jarek who was watching TV, Vanessa who was at the door waiting for her husband, Edward who was in the bathroom, Max who was about to lay on the couch, Kyla, Sasha who was reading a novel, Angelo who was about to have a long night rest, and the rest of the people living in Askarvard heard Alde scream, and everyone was frightened.
"The beast." Kyla said.
"The murderous beast." Dylan said, slamming the table in front of him.
"This is not good." Hugo was lying down on the bed with his wife. He stared at his wife. "I think we should be prepared for the worst." He added, and his wife could only nod her head. She was grieving in fear of the unknown.
