CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: THE SWITCHER

2594 Words
Jarek had arrived from school earlier than expected. Alde picked him up early from school, Jarek did not know why, but he knew it was unusual for Alde to pick him up at that time. Few minutes to five, Jarek was watching TV, his parents were not with him in the sitting room, they had left two hours ago, that was when he arrived from school. They left immediately they dropped him at home. He hearrd a knock on the door and he stood up happily, went over to the door, and opened it -- It was Cassy. He did not know what to feel, disappointed or happy. Anyways, he got company. He told Cassy to come in. Cassy entered the house, she fed her eyes with the pictures on the wall, and the beauty of the room. "Your parents told me to come over to keep you company." Cassy said still admiring the beauty of the interior design. "Ooh." Jarek replied, rubbing the back of his head with his hands. They didn't make eye contact until they were both seated. Cassy found something to say immediately. "Ooh you watch this too?" She asked. Jarek looked at the TV. "Oh yes. That's my favourite show." "Me too!" Soon enough, they started talking about previous episodes. They argued a lot about the show, and the time passed so fast - It was 6PM. Alde, Vanessa, and Karen were seated on the hightable. They had talked about what to do, and they had concluded that when the full moon was visible, they would chain Alde underground. Karen's castle had underground chambers more like a dungeon with light and they called it, "100". Karen's great grandmother had built 100. She built it just in case trouble called, the children and pregnant women would have a place to hide, but right now, it would be used to trap a Lycan. They had gotten a big chain, Karen had gotten it from Askarvard prison. That was an easy task for her, the question was, "would the chain hold Alde?" She hoped it would, and if it didn't, death would take us all. She went over to her phone. Her phone had been turned off all this while. "Shit." She said. She plugged the phone, and waited for it to power on,she had missed two phone calls, and had an unread message from Dylan. She opened the message first, and it has been the message Hugo, and the rest had received. She went to her call logs, and found out the missed call was from Hugo and Kyla. She called Hugo first, as soon as Hugo picked up. She said. "Oh, sorry I missed your call." "No problem, Boaz is keeping Dylan hostage, Figo is with me now, he claimed to have freed himself, and relayed the terrible news to them. I guess Kyla's dream is not about the beast from eight years ago, it might be Boaz wanting to take over The Pentagon, and if that happens, the humans are not safe." Hugo explained. Karen felt relieved - at least, it was not Alde now. "What would you have me do?" Karen asked. "How many are strong enough to take on a vampire?" "Like twelve I guess." "Then assemble them to get ready for anything at all." "Okay One." "Alright, I will call you soon." "Okay." Hugo hung up, and Karen sighed as she dropped her phone on the stool close to the wall socket. Vanessa who had been eavesdropping on Karen's conversation came out of hiding. "Hope everything is okay." Vanessa asked. "Erhmm I don't think so, but with us right now, everything is okay." "What's wrong?" "Dylan, the second man in The Pentagon has been captured by Boaz." "Who is Boaz?" "A vampire." "Wow!" Vanessa exclaimed. "So, there are vampires here in Askarvard!" She sounded surprised, and Karen watched her face, looking dumb. "Why are you staring at me like that! It is unbelievable!" She said. Alde thought something bad had happened. "What is it?" He asked. Vanessa and Karen stared at him. Vanessa's mouth was still opened in surprise, and Karen's face never changed. "Ask her." Karen said. Alde looked at Vanessa, "What is it?" "There are vampires in Askarvard." She whispered. Alde copied Karen's emotion face as he kept staring at Vanessa. "As if you haven't heard my story all this while." Alde said. "That was eight years ago, Babe!" Vanessa replied. Karen was taken aback as Vanessa said the word "babe". She remembered the times when she was with Alde. She missed his touch, seeing his smile in the early mornings, his meals, she missed everything about Alde and for once, she hoped Alde would run back into her arms. Thoughts went into other memories, and she asked herself, "Should I tell him about Cassy?" Immediately, she told herself, "Now is not the time." 6:45PM, Alde asked Karen if it was time. Karen asked him in return, "how are you feeling?" and he replied, "I feel human." Silence grew from there until one of Karen's subordinates came over to the sitting room. "It is ready." She said. Karen, and the rest in the sitting room turned around, looking at the girl who just spoke. "Okay" Karen responded. "Let's go." Karen told Alde. Alde and Vanessa stood up, and they went into the underground chamber. An incoming enemy would have never found out about the underground if not told. Karen, Alde, Vanessa, and the girl who informed them about the preparation. The place was empty, there were no windows at all, but it had lights, and the temperature was cool, thanks to the big standing air conditioners at the four corners of the room. Big chains that could hold a dragon from getting free would be used to tie Alde down. "Damn! Is that for me?" Alde asked. "We don't want to underestimate how strong you are. We got the best of all the chains, hoping that would hold you down." "Okay, let's get over with it." Vanessa and Karen watched as Karen's subordinates chained Alde. Alde stared at them in return. "I will be fine." Alde assured both of them as they looked so worried. Cassy and Jarek ran out of things to discuss. Shortly, Jarek suggested they stroll out, and Cassy accepted. "This street is peaceful, nothing would happen." This was the word Cassy held on to as they exited the main entrance. They bought junks to eat while they stroll. Street lights aided Children to see in the dark, playing football, and some chasing themselves. Jarek wished to join, but he was enjoying the best times of his life. Kyla was also walking on the same street. In no time, she saw Cassy first, then Jarek. Cassy greeted Kyla, bowing down respectfully, and Jarek did the same. "Why are you here?" Kyla asked Cassy. "I told my Mom I'm coming over to my friend's house." "And you are leaving by this time?" She asked. She didn't allow Cassy to answer as she turned to Jarek. "Where are your parents? They should be the one to take her home." Kyla knew the reason she came to this place. The full moon shined bright in the sky, this was what she never dreamt of happening. If not for the roar she heard eight years ago, she wouldn't be here. "My parents went to her mother's place, they will be back soon." Jarek replied. "Then where are you heading to?" Kyla asked. Jarek was starting to feel impatient, but he didn't want to sound rude to an elderly person. "We were strolling, there was nothing to do at home." "Okay." Kyla responded. Her mission was to know where Alde was, and when she had known, she turned around, and left. Jarek and Cassy watched her leave. "What's with her?" Cassy asked no one. "How do u know her ? She looks scary." "I don't even know how to explain." Jarek guessed he'd ruin the moment, so he diverted to something else. "What can you do well?" "Drawing...painting." Cassy answered. "Amazing." "Yeah, what about you?" "Play--" "Playing basketball." "How did you know what I was going to say?" "Instincts." She answered, smiling. Walking down the street, the necklace Vanessa gave to Jarek on his birthday fell off his pocket as he wanted to take something out of the pocket. Few minutes ago, Hugo received a message from Kyla that she was going to see the suspect, she would be back soon. Hugo waited for her until she arrived. "Any news?" He asked. "The suspect and his wife were not at home, and Three's daughter is with their son." "Why is that?" "They are trying to look for a way no one will know he is the beast that we have been looking for." Kyla responded boldly. Their conversation was halted as they both received a text message at the same time. When they unlocked their phones, reading the message, and after reading they stared at eachother. "Boaz is coming right now. I overheard them discussing about it. I think there's a lot of them. You must assemble them all now." The message was from Dylan. Karen and Edward also received the message. Karen told Vanessa to go home to meet Cassy and Jarek as she hurriedly left the underground chamber. "What is happening?" Alde asked. "War." Karen said. "War?" Vanessa responded. "Boaz, a vampire psychopath is coming for us -- sorry, I and the remaining four that is keeping Askarvard peaceful. One of us had been taken though. She said, and left. Vanessa bade Alde goodbye, and told him she would visit the next day. As she stood at the entrance, she stared at Alde, and confessed. "I love you Alde, no matter who you are." Alde watched her, he was left speechless, and Vanessa expected him not to say anything, but she was kind of disappointed. Alde sighed as she exited the door, and locked it behind her. Alde's hands, and legs had been tied. Karen, Hugo, Kyla, and Edward assembled their best armies. They gathered slightly hoping Boaz and his army wouldn't show up. But Boaz and his army ran in full speed as they entered Sharia Tanna, but it was empty. "Let us head to The Pentagon." Boaz said. The lights in the room got dimmer, Alde could see a little window up in the room - The full moon shone brightly as the dark clouds moved rapidly under it. Alde closed his eyes, and he whispered. "No." Cassy and Jarek were still strolling, and taking their time outside. They strolled into the woods, and Cassy still held on to Jarek's words, "This street is peaceful." They strolled aimlessly, but stopped at a point, sitting down on a log of wood. The full moon helped them see through the bush, and as Jarek Lorcán, the fearless boy, he wasn't worried about anything unlike Cassy. Hugo and the rest assembled in The Pentagon. Sasha, Angelo, Zed, and the rest were all kept in a secret room. Max was worried about his father, but his stepmother was there to comfort him. Askarvard tuned in from peace to violence. Hugo saw Boaz and his army running towards them. "Let's all go to the forest where every alpha is named." Hugo said, and the werewolves took on their form with someone on their back. Edward hopped on Hugo's back, Kyla hopped on Griffin's back, and Karen hoped on to The Luna's back. Alde started behaving strange, he tried holding it in, but the beast in him was stronger. He shouted as he turned, he was in brutal pain, and he hoped this goes by soon. He tried breaking the chains, but he couldn't. As he turned, he became more powerful, and the chains couldn't hold him anymore. He broke the chains, and panted heavily in his beast form. He could sense that vampires were close. He went for the door, and tore it open and ran out. The fight was a brutal one. Hugo tore vampires apart, Vampires ripping witches heads off, Edward with his axe, shoving the axe in several vampires, Karen using her hand to control vampires, throwing them away, and also did Kyla. The fight went on and on, but Hugo's side was winning, and Boaz could feel it - He went to war with novices, so he slightly expected defeat. Jarek and Cassy were around the battleground, so they could hear screams, and animal sounds. "What's going on there?" Cassy asked fearfully. Vanessa got home. The house was empty, she feared the vampires had taken her son. She couldn't think. She went to her neighbour's apartment. "Have you seen Jarek?" Vanessa asked trembling. "No, I haven't." A woman answered. "Shit." She whispered. She walked for a few minutes, and saw the chain she had given Jarek on the floor. She took it, and smelled it. The pause, she looked around. "s**t!" She exclaimed, running towards the gate to their street, she exited the gate, and as she ran, she was getting tired, and suddenly as she was running, she shifted into a wolf. "I am coming for you my son." Boaz snuck away, running further away from the battleground, and to where Jarek and Cassy was sitting. He saw two little kids a few metres from where he was standing. "This is great." He said, smiling. He walked towards them. Soon enough, Jarek saw him, and so did Cassy. He jumped up from where he was sitting. "What are you doing here all alone?" Boaz asked. "Why do you want to know?" Jarek proved to be fearless. "I love this." Boaz whispered as he walked closer to them, and Jarek slowly dragged Cassy behind him. "Where is Boaz!" Karen asked. Edward and Kyla looked around, "I don't know." Kyla responded. Hugo was with Karen. He picked up the scent of Boaz, and mind-talked with Griffin to chase Boaz. Griffin and his team hurriedly left. Alde could smell vampires. He went into the forest. When he saw them, he roared. Everyone stood still as they watched the beast. "f**k, he broke out." Karen cursed. For every step, the ground seemed to be breathing. The untrained vampires watched in fear, and the fight soon continued. Alde tossed, and tore them like toys. Boaz drew nearer, and the kids drew back. "At the count of three, let us scream for help." Jarek told Cassy upon seeing the face of Boaz - his face was very cold, and from the books Jarek had read, this is the typical look of a vampire. "One...two...three" "Someone should help ussss--" They both screamed. Vanessa, Griffin, and his team heard the cry, and they ran faster. Alde heard the cry, but he was still busy killing the vampires that won't let him leave. Boaz ran with full speed. He tossed Cassy away as he took hold of Jarek. "Let's see who will save you after this." He bit Jarek's neck, and after sensing werewolves were on the way, he ran away. Griffin got to the scene, he saw Jarek had been bitten. "Go after him, I will take care of this." Griffin ordered. "You Omega, take that girl to safety." He mind-talked with him. The omega carried Cassy who had fainted. Griffin walked over to Jarek. "I'm sorry child, but I think you have to die, your source is bad." He apologized. Griffin wanted to grab Jarek's by his head, but Vanessa came to the rescue. "Don't f*****g touch my son." Vanessa warned.
