Episode 1
Hazel's pov ~
“You may have bore the title of alpha. But you are weak, Hazel. You and I know that,” Jack's voice echoed in the hall. I swallowed the shame which rained on me as everyone's eyes were fixed on me.
My brain was going in spins, trying to understand what was going on. I opened my mouth to speak, but they only vibrated, causing my teeth to crash against each other. Tears streamed down my eyes as I watched Jack climb the stairs.
“It is no news that the former alpha of Braize hill pack is incapable of handling the throne just like her father did. The reason her crowning ceremony was delayed”
“Jack,” his name escaped my mouth with a breath. My sobs broke as I fell on my knees. This wasn't what we discussed. This wasn't the plan. “You promised me,” I muttered.
My vision was getting blur, but I was able to see Jack as he assumed his position on my throne. A throne which I inherited from my father who was killed by the Lycans. If there was one truth in what Jack said, it was my weakness.
After my father's death a year ago, I was to become next Alpha of the Braize Hill pack. But my father's death shook me to the point that I couldn't even get access to my wolf. Reaching my wolf, Mia, was now an assignment to me.
The seven elders of the Braize hill pack noticed my weakness. I knew I had to act faster than them. So I chose to give my alpha position to my mate, Jack. In turn, he promised to make me his Luna.
We made plans of how we would make our own family, renovate my father's house, spend time in the garden all alone and have s*x in the weirdest places. It all sounded like a fun idea, until now.
My heart ached as I watched Jack address the pack as their new Alpha. What was to become of me? At that point, I heard the silent whisper in my head, telling me to get up and fight for what rightfully belongs to me.
I forced myself to my feet and staggered to the throne.
“Why?! You promised to make me your Luna! What's going on Jack? I questioned. I tried to be fierce, but I couldn't just bring myself to yell at the boy I’ve loved for five years now.
“You can't be the Alpha of this pack, Hazel. Neither can I make you my Luna. You've lost control of your wolf. You can't even sync with her. You have no knowledge of the pack's politics. Braize hill pack deserves someone better”
His words struck my heart like a double-edged sword. I raised my head, anticipating his next words as he stood up. I noticed his gaze was fixed on someone or something in the crowd. Before I could turn, he said the words.
“Someone like Willow… who will uphold the strength of this pack,” he announced. The crowd went into an excited roar. If my heart was in my stomach, then it definitely dropped to the floor after getting shredded to pieces.
Willow? My best friend since childhood? Impossible.
Unfortunately, my doubt was swept away as Willow walked out of the crowd. She was jeered by the crowd, and for a second, I thought I saw a smile flash across her face. “Willow…it's a lie…right?” I questioned.
She ignored me and walked all the way to the throne.
“I take Willow as my mate. An Alpha needs someone as beautiful and strong as her, and not…” Jack paused as his eyes met mine. He looked away immediately and took Willow’s hand. But Willow pulled away from him.
“You can't hurt my friend and want her best friend as a mate!” She yelled.
‘I knew it. Willow would never hurt me,’ I thought, proud of the fact that my doubts were true. Willow hurried to where I was and grabbed my hand.
“Hurry,” she pulled me through the crowd. We scurried into the woods until my legs began to hurt. We came to a halt after running several meters away from the pack territory.
I fell on my knees, grabbing my stomach in pain. “Are you alright?” Willow came to my aid. Instead, I burst into tears. “Talk to me Hazel,” she urged as she pulled me into her embrace.
“If you won't speak to me then we must keep going. You need to get as far away from Braize hill as possible. Jack isn't done with you yet,” Willow added.
“I was going to tell him after the handover ceremony. Why did he have to hurt me?” I whimpered in Willow's arms.
“Tell him what? Talk to me Hazel” Willow begged. She didn't like being kept in the dark. I pulled away from her, massaging my stomach and looking into her eyes.
“I'm pregnant for Jack,” I finally broke the news to her. I kept it a secret after the pack nurse carried out a test on me three weeks ago.
I thought the best time to inform Jack would be after I handed my alpha title to him, so he would know our little dream was finally coming to reality.
Who knew this was what my fate would be?
The expression in Willow's eyes wasn't what I expected. It was mixed with shock and jealousy.
“Pregnant?” She muttered. I nodded, ignoring my assumptions and placing my head on her shoulder.
“Why? Why did he betray me?” I muttered, letting my tears stream down freely.
“It's alright Hazel. Jack isn’t worth it,” Willow cuddled me. Her arm which was wrapped across my neck above and below began to tighten, and I thought it was just her grieving.
It got so tight that I couldn't breathe. I tried to pull away, but there was a resistance.
“Willow…I can't…I…can't…breathe,” I choked on my words. Her weight fell on me, pushing me to the floor and she sat on me. “Wi–ll–ow”.
“I'm sorry Hazel. I was supposed to lead you out of the territory. But hearing about your child…” she said, her palms tightening around my neck with every word. I struggled for my freedom, but Willow was using the strength of her wolf.
“You will only pose as a threat to my position if Jack discovers,” she completed.
Her words made me loose every strength in me. I stopped struggling and just watched her go ahead with her plan to end me. So after all, my doubt about Willow not betraying me was wrong.
I let go of her hands, ready to give up the ghost as my life force ebbed away. I thought I saw death hovering above Willow, ready to take me along with him. Instead, Willow was knocked off my body, and I blanked out.
