Chapter 54: Wedding

1702 Words
Many things undercurrent, but Leui is having a blast with Mhir and Gie after Mhir found a wedding banquet while she was shopping. Leui and Gie found her, and they were pulled to eat with the guests at the banquet. Mhir was very happy because she can eat all she likes, and all the food is delicious! From dishes to pastries… She likes all of them! And there are lots of kinds of each of them for her to choose, waiting for her to eat them! “This wedding… it looks like Baron Felix has successfully pursued his sweetheart.” Gie spoke. “Baron Felix?” Leui muttered and looked at the groom. Baron Felix is a tall man and his face looked ordinary. But, his eyes are shining with love and fondness as he looks at his bride who is beautiful, with long, straight and silky hair, fair skin, full red lips, round eyes and slender body. She looked fine and delicate. Although this newly-wed couple doesn’t look like they are a match made in heaven, you can see they are very in love with each other. “He is a manor lord granted a baron title by the king when a disaster struck two years ago.” Gie spoke. “What disaster?” Leui asked. “A big storm struck the kingdom, and the west was the most affected.” Gie answered. “Not only the crops were submerged in the flood, but even the trees for them to procure food were uprooted and were smashed. Famine is only a matter of time.” He sighed. “Baron Felix is the young lord of the Hill manor. He was the one who reached out his hand to the poor and gave them rations. Some other nobles followed and took out their reserved grains to give to the poor, but Baron Felix has the largest contribution.” He explained. “He’s very kind.” Leui smiled and turned to look at the newly-wed couple. It is indeed what is inside that counts and not the outside. Although the young baron looked plain, his kindness must have moved his sweetheart. Now, they are married. “How did he meet his wife?” he asked. “Baron Felix met his wife as one of the volunteers the king sent from the Capital to help the people in the west.” Gie answered. “He fell in love with her, who is both beautiful and kind. Then, he started to pursue her.” He said. “I see.” Leui muttered. He can’t help but remember Tinum, who chose to stay in the Elven Forest. Tinum is undoubtedly beautiful, and is also kind, although he looked cold. Leui can’t help his heart to throb, missing that male elf. “Why did they hold their wedding in the Capital?” Mhir asked. “Isn’t the baron’s manor in the west? And that is where they met?” she added. She believes that the place where two people met is very memorable. Thinking this, she glanced at Leui who was silently eating a pastry. “A. The baron’s wife lives in the Capital. It must be her request to hold the wedding here.” Gie answered, then paused. “Or, maybe the baron can’t wait anymore and decisively married here?” he guessed. Then, he shrugged. Anyway, it doesn’t concern them. They only need to eat. “Huh? Isn’t this doctor Gie?” a sweet voice of a woman spoke behind them. Hearing someone call one of their names, Leui, Gie and Mhir who has a cookie in her mouth turned to look at the speaker. Then, they were surprised when they saw the bride, baron Felix’s wife. Mhir suddenly couldn't help but exclaim when she saw her. “Wow! She’s prettier up close!” she said. “And her bridal gown is very beautiful! The design is very detailed, and the fabric used is of high quality!” she stared at the white outfit. “What a cute dwarf! And thank you for the compliment!” the bride of baron Felix said with a bright smile. Then, she turned to look at Gie, before her gaze fell on Leui. “Hello. Are you a friend of doctor Gie?” she asked. Leui politely nodded at her. “Yes.” He answered. “Why haven’t I seen you before?” she asked. Leui suddenly felt that something is strange. Why is she so… “I came back only recently.” He answered. She has so many questions. But, shouldn’t she unconcerned of him? He thought. Then, he turned to Gie whose smile disappeared on his face. Suddenly, he felt that he realized something. The bride of baron Felix must have noticed the change in Leui’s mood so she turned back to Gie. “Doctor Gie. It’s been a long time that we last saw each other.” She said with a smile on her face. “Yes.” Gie spoke. His face looks indifferent. “Why is it only you here? Where is your husband, the young baron?” he asked. Leui started when he heard Gie’s address to Baron Felix. ‘young baron’? He thought. Then, he saw the bride’s smile become stiff. “He is entertaining the other guests. He had me rest first as I looked tired.” She explained as she barely held her smile. “Then, you go and rest.” Gie spoke. His voice sounds cold. The bride’s face paled. “… won’t you introduce me to your friends?” she asked and turned to Leui, before she looked at Mhir who was busy eating food so she didn’t see anything amiss. “It isn’t necessary, is it?” Gie coolly asked. The bride almost collapsed. But, remembering that the wedding party is still going on, she nodded. “Then, I’ll be leaving first. Please enjoy the food.” She said and then left. “… don’t you think you are being rude to her?” Leui asked after a while. “You already guessed our relationship.” Gie spoke. “You have already rejected her, yet she is still clinging to you.” Leui said and then paused. “And it’s her wedding day.” He added. Gie didn’t speak. Leui looked at him. “Did you have feelings for her?” he asked. “No.” Gie answered. Leui knows that Gie wouldn’t lie to him so he believes him. Gie heaved a sigh before he picked up a piece of chocolate and ate it. “Two years ago, not only was there flood and famine as a result of the big storm, but there was also a pandemic.” He spoke. “As a skillful doctor, I was one of the five doctors that was sent as volunteers to the west. She is another volunteer.” He said. Leui didn’t speak and just silently listened. Gie continued. “The volunteers were very afraid of the pandemic and feared that they would also become sick.” He spoke. “I comforted them, as I already know what kind of illness that struck those people. And one of the people I comforted was her.” He glanced at the bride of Baron Felix. “She fell in love with you.” Leui spoke. Initially, he thought that Gie and the bride fell in love with each other during the time they volunteered in the disaster that struck the west. And that Baron Felix who also fell in love with the woman used his power to forcibly separate the two and insert himself in between. He thought of this after he noticed the bride’s intention towards Gie. But, after hearing Gie’s words, the thought disappeared. It was just a one-sided affection. Gie nodded. “Yes. But, I don’t feel anything for her.” He spoke. “I only see her as an acquaintance.” He said. An acquaintance. Not even a friend. This is really heartless for the woman, but Gie is just being honest. In fact, Gie isn’t heartless. He would be heartless if he would give her hope, only to crush it after. Gie noticed Leui’s silence and he sighed. He was about to speak when he heard a voice called. “Doctor Gie.” It was a male voice. They turned and saw the groom. “Young baron.” Gie called. A smile appeared on Baron Felix’s lips. “You still call me that?” he asked. Gie just shrugged. Baron Felix helplessly chuckled. Leui looked at them two and saw that they are very familiar to each other, when Baron Felix should treat Gie as his love rival. But, Baron Felix doesn’t hold any animosity towards Gie instead. “Halie, she…” Baron Felix spoke and looked at his bride who was sitting in a corner while watching their guests pass her by and greet her, which she greets them back. Gie also looked at her before he patted Baron Felix’s shoulder. He knows that Halie is still in love with him despite the fact that she married Baron Felix. But, he can’t accept her. “I believe you can heal her heart. This is your chance.” He told him. Baron Felix bitterly smiled. Gie looked at him and then sighed. “I don’t think that she’s that indifferent towards you.” He said. Baron Felix looked at him. “If she doesn’t care about you, she won’t marry you.” Gie spoke. Baron Felix’s eyes widened. “Go. This time, you have to completely replace me in her heart.” Gie smiled, encouraging him.
