He didn’t look curious. Or amused. Or pitying. He looked… certain. Tailored black suit. Sharp lines. Unreadable expression. Eyes that didn’t wander didn’t hesitate. Alexander Blackwood. The name settled in her mind like a quiet warning. “What do you want?” she asked. No greeting. No pretense. His gaze held hers. Steady. Assessing. Then he said “Get in the car.” Sarah blinked once. “I don’t take orders from strangers.” A pause. Barely a second. “I’m not a stranger,” he said calmly. Her grip tightened slightly around her phone. “Then you should know,” she replied evenly, “that I’m not interested in whatever this is.” Silence. Then he stepped closer. Not enough to invade her space, but enough to shift the air between them. “I’m offering you a way out,” he said. Her gaze sharpened. “A way out of what?” she asked. His eyes didn’t leave hers. “Ruin.” The word landed heavier than it should have. Her phone buzzed again, another notification, another headline, another version of her being destroyed. Alexander didn’t look at the screen. He didn’t need to. “I can fix this,” he said. Sarah let out a quiet breath. “People like you don’t fix things,” she said softly. “You replace them.” For the first time, something almost like approval flickered in his gaze. “Good then you understand exactly what I’m offering,” he said. “And what is that?” she asked. His answer was simple. Cold. Precise. “Marry me.” Silence. The city noise faded into the background. The night stretched. Sarah stared at him. Searching for a c***k. A hint of humor. A sign that this was anything other than exactly what it sounded like. There was none. “Why?” she asked. “Because you need protection,” he said. “And I need a wife.” Her lips parted slightly. “Temporarily,” he added. Sarah said nothing. Her mind was already moving and calculating. Reputation. Power. Access. Revenge. All the things she had just lost. All the things standing in front of her. “You’re asking me to trust you,” she said finally. “No,” Alexander replied. A beat. “I’m asking you to use me.” That changed everything. Something slow and dangerous settled in her chest. Sarah tilted her head slightly. Studying him. Then, very slowly, she smiled. “If I agree,” she said quietly, “I don’t play the role of a quiet, obedient wife.” His gaze darkened just slightly. “I wouldn’t have asked if you did.” A pause. The city held its breath. And at that moment Standing between ruin and power Sarah Vale made a decision. “Fine, I'll marry you,” she said. Another pause. Alexander didn’t smile. But something in the air shifted. Final. “Good,” he said. Then he opened the car door. “Get in, Mrs. Blackwood.” Sarah froze. Just for a second. Mrs. Blackwood. The name felt foreign. Powerful. Dangerous. And maybe exactly what she needed. She stepped forward. And got in. As the car door closed behind her, her phone buzzed one last time. A new headline: “Sarah Vale disappears after scandal — sources claim she has lost everything.” Sarah looked at it. Then slowly locked her phone. Because they were wrong. She hadn’t lost everything. Not yet.
