Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The clock on the wooden wall of the flower shop showed it was already past nine in the evening. My feet felt completely dead after standing up for more than ten straight hours, arranging hundreds of flowers, cutting sharp stems, and cleaning up stray leaves scattered across the tile floor. My palms and fingers smelled faintly of fresh roses, damp green stems, and rich potting soil.
With a tired sigh, I untied the straps of my dark green working apron, rolled it up into a messy ball, and tossed it carelessly onto the old folding chair near the back counter. The shop was finally quiet. The bright neon lights outside cast a soft yellow glow through the large front glass windows, illuminating the empty streets outside. I wiped my palms against my pants, reached deep into my pocket, and pulled out my smartphone to check for notifications.
The screen lit up instantly, bright against the dim shadows of the back room. I tapped on the green messaging app, opening the chat thread with my boyfriend. I stared at the screen, noticing that my last message sent thirty minutes ago still showed unread. No reply.
My eyebrows furrowed in quiet confusion. He usually replied to my messages quickly, especially at night when he was just hanging out inside his condo apartment playing computer games or watching movies. I tapped on the text box again, my thumbs moving slowly across the glass keyboard.
“Hey babe, I’m finally done closing the shop. How are you? Are you already home? Why aren’t you replying? Are you busy?”
I hit send, waiting for a few seconds to see if the little typing bubbles would appear beneath his name. Nothing happened. The chat remained silent, completely empty except for my own words floating on the screen. A strange, uneasy feeling tickled the back of my mind, but I quickly shook it off, trying to make excuses for him.
“He probably fell asleep early because of work,” I muttered softly to myself, locking my phone screen and dropping the device back into my bag.
A fond, affectionate smile formed on my lips despite my exhaustion. Since I happened to pass by the bakery down the street earlier that evening, I bought a fresh box of hot pepperoni pizza. I knew how much he loved late-night snacks after a long day. Plus, since I had my own set of spare keys to his condo apartment, surprising him with a warm meal and a sweet visit sounded like the perfect way to turn a tiring Monday night into something special.
"Stacey, are you still inside the locker room?"
Yana’s voice echoed from the front area, breaking my thoughts. I turned around and saw my co-worker walking toward the back room while zipping up her heavy black jacket.
"Yeah, Yana, I'm right here," I called out, grabbing my small black shoulder bag and swinging the strap over my arm. "I was just checking my phone."
"We need to finish locking up the front glass doors and turn off the main circuit breakers," Yana reminded me as she stepped into the room, tossing her keys into her bag. "Are you heading straight home tonight, or do you have somewhere else to go?"
"I’m actually going to drop by somewhere first before going home," I answered with a small smile, walking out of the locker room to join her near the counter.
"Alright, let's head out together then," Yana said.
We walked side by side toward the main exit, checking every corner of the shop to make sure all the water buckets were stored properly and the cash register was securely locked. Once we stepped outside into the cool night air, Yana pulled her jacket tighter around her shoulders. We pulled the heavy glass doors shut, sliding the thick metal deadbolt into place and checking it twice to ensure it was secure.
"See you tomorrow morning, Yana. Have a safe trip home," I said, offering her a tired wave.
"You too, Stacey. Don't walk too slow, it's pretty late and the streets are getting quiet," she replied before turning down the opposite corner toward the subway station.
I turned around and walked toward the main avenue where yellow taxis frequently passed by. The night breeze felt nice against my skin, cooling down the exhaustion from the long shift. Within five minutes, an empty taxi pulled over by the curb, and I quickly hopped inside, giving the driver the exact address of my boyfriend’s high-rise condominium building.
The ride took about twenty minutes through the dim city streets. When the taxi stopped in front of the tall glass-and-steel building, I paid the driver, stepped out, and walked briskly toward the main entrance. The lobby was quiet, lit by bright white ceiling lights.
"Good evening, Mang Tony," I said cheerfully to the security guard sitting behind the wooden front desk, flashing a wide, bright smile.
Mang Tony looked up from his small television screen, but his face remained completely blank. He didn’t smile back. He just stared at me with a strange, heavy expression that made my chest tighten slightly.
I paused for a second, feeling a bit confused. That was weird. Mang Tony and I were usually close because I visited his unit at least three or four times a week. We always exchanged jokes about the midnight visitors in the building. Shrugging off the awkwardness, I figured he was just tired from his long shift.
"Still a long night ahead, huh?" I murmured politely.
He didn't answer, simply nodding once before looking back down at his desk. I turned away, walking straight toward the private elevator banks. I pressed the button for the twelfth floor, tapping my foot impatiently against the metallic floor of the elevator as it ascended smoothly.
When the metal doors slid open on the twelfth floor, I stepped out into the quiet carpeted hallway. Warm yellow wall sconces lit the way to room 1204. I walked softly, holding the warm pizza box carefully in my hands. Pausing right outside the wooden door, I reached up with my free hand, smoothing down my dark hair and checking my collar to make sure I looked presentable.
A wide smile spread across my face. I pulled my spare key out of my pocket, slid it quietly into the keyhole, and turned it with a soft click. I pushed the door open gently, stepping into the dark entryway.
The living room and the kitchen area were completely empty. The TV was off, and the small glass coffee table was neat. A quiet chuckle escaped my lips. He really must be dead asleep in his room, I thought to yourself.
Moving quietly so I wouldn't startle him, I walked down the short hallway toward his bedroom door. It was pushed open just an inch, a sliver of warm light spilling out onto the dark carpet. I raised my hand to push the door open wider, wanting to catch him resting peacefully.
I pushed the door open.
My breath caught instantly in my throat. The world around me stopped spinning.
In the center of the large queen-sized bed, a woman was straddling a man, moving up and down in a slow, rhythmic motion. Her head was thrown back, her long hair spilling wildly over her bare shoulders, completely naked. Beneath her, my boyfriend’s hands were gripping her waist tightly, his fingers digging into her skin while his eyes stared up at her with heavy, hungry desire.
For a second, my brain refused to process the image. My feet were glued to the floorboards. I couldn't turn around. I couldn't take a single step backward. A freezing numbness spread from the tips of my fingers all the way down to my legs, making me feel completely weak and hollow inside.
Then, he let out a low, raspy groan of pure pleasure.
The sharp sound shattered the silence. My hands lost all strength. The pizza box slipped straight out of my grip, crashing hard against the hard wooden floorboards with a loud, echoing thud that broke the stillness of the apartment.
The sudden noise startled them both. The woman froze mid-motion, and he snapped his head toward the open doorway.
Their eyes locked onto mine.
In that fraction of a second, the light hit the woman’s side profile as she turned her head. My stomach dropped into a bottomless pit. It wasn't just any random woman. Straddling my boyfriend, breathing heavily and sweating under the dim lights, was my best friend, Mia.
Tears instantly hot and heavy blurred my vision. My chest felt like it was being crushed by a heavy stone. I wanted to scream, to throw things, to pull them apart with my bare hands, but my body refused to move. My throat felt tight, burning with silent agony.
Without saying a single word, I forced my trembling legs to move. I turned around and ran.
My sneakers pounded hard against the hallway floor. I dashed toward the elevators, hitting the down button frantically while tears streamed down my face unchecked. Behind me, I heard a muffled voice calling out my name—his voice, thick with panic—but I didn't look back.
When the elevator doors finally opened, I threw myself inside and pressed the lobby button over and over again. As soon as the doors parted on the ground floor, I sprinted past the front desk.
"Stacey? Miss Stacey, wait—!" Mang Tony’s voice echoed behind me, but I ignored him completely, bursting through the glass front doors into the cool night air.
A taxi had just dropped off another passenger right by the entrance. Without hesitating, I pulled the back door open and threw myself inside.
"Where to, Miss?" the driver asked, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
"Just... take me to any bar nearby. I need to drink," I choked out, my voice cracking badly as hot tears poured down my cheeks.
The driver didn't ask any more questions after seeing my wrecked face. He stepped on the gas, speeding away from the condominium building into the neon-lit streets of the city. I sat in the backseat, curling into myself, crying so hard my chest heaved with every breath.
When the car finally slowed down beside a noisy, crowded street corner lined with glowing neon signs, the driver pulled over.
"Here we are, Miss. This place has a good lounge," the driver said quietly.
I paid him quickly, grabbed my bag, and pushed the car door open. And before getting off, I thanked the driver first. Standing on the sidewalk, I wiped furiously at my wet cheeks with the back of my hands, trying desperately to pull myself together before stepping into the glaring lights of the entrance.
At the heavy velvet curtains of the club entrance, a tall bouncer stopped me. He handed me a small, dark red masquerade mask made of stiff velvet, shaped just right to cover the upper half of my face.
"Masks are mandatory tonight, Miss. It's a masquerade theme," he said in a deep voice.
Even though I was wearing a simple dark polo shirt and comfortable flat pants straight from work, he let me pass through after I adjusted the elastic band around my head, securing the small red mask over my eyes.
The moment I stepped inside, the heavy bass of electronic dance music vibrated straight through the soles of my shoes. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume, sweat, and alcohol. Without wasting a second, I walked straight through the flashing strobe lights toward the long wooden bar counter.
"Give me your strongest drink. Whatever you have," I told the bartender, slamming my palm softly against the counter.
He raised an eyebrow, pouring a clear, amber liquid into a small shot glass and sliding it across the polished wood. I downed it instantly. The burn in my throat was fierce, but it matched the burning pain inside my chest.
As I sat there waiting for my second glass, three different men approached me one after another. The first one leaned in close, shouting over the music, "Hey gorgeous, you look a bit lonely sitting here all by yourself. Want company?"
I didn't even turn my head to look at him. I just stared straight ahead at the rows of liquor bottles behind the counter, keeping my lips pressed into a hard line.
The second man tried his luck a few minutes later, placing a hand on the back of my stool and leaning down to murmur, "A pretty girl like you shouldn't be hiding behind a red mask alone. Let me buy you something better."
Again, I ignored him completely, signaling the bartender for another glass of tequila. By the time the third guy tried to strike up a conversation, offering me a drink and asking my name, I just glared at him coldly until he raised his hands in surrender and walked away.
I drank shot after shot, letting the alcohol numb the sharp edges of the betrayal playing over and over in my mind. The music grew louder, the bass heavier, and the crowd thicker as midnight approached. The flashing lights shifted from blue to a deep, intoxicating crimson.
My head started to spin gently, a pleasant, heavy fog settling over my brain. The rhythm of the music took over my body, pulling me away from the bar stool and onto the packed dance floor.
Surrounded by a sea of bodies, I let go. I started to move to the beat, my hips swaying naturally. The alcohol running through my veins made me bold, loosening every tight muscle in my body. I began to dance more seductively, my hands sliding up my own waist, tracing the curves of my body despite the simple cotton polo shirt and flat pants I was wearing. The way the fabric hugged my figure only made every movement stand out more, drawing the eyes of the people around me. My chest rose and fell with every breath, moving rhythmically to the heavy bassline.
People around me started cheering, clapping, and clearing a small space for me as I lost myself entirely in the sexy, fluid motion of the dance.
Suddenly, a tall, solid frame pressed firmly against my back.
A pair of strong hands gripped my hips securely, pulling me flush against a hard chest. My eyes were a bit blurry from the alcohol, but even in the dim, flashing lights, I could tell the man standing behind me was exceptionally tall and broad-shouldered.
Instead of pulling away, a reckless wave of heat washed over me. I turned around slowly, pressing my back against his front instead, and began to grind my hips against him in time with the heavy music.
A low, deep chuckle vibrated from the chest behind me. The man’s grip on my waist tightened instantly, his fingers gripping my hips so hard it sent a shiver straight down my spine.
He leaned down, his warm breath brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck before his lips grazed my earlobe.
"You're so hot," he murmured in a deep, gravelly voice that sounded entirely masculine and raw.
As he spoke, his teeth gently nipped the lobe of my ear. A sharp gasp escaped my lips, and I bit down hard on my lower lip, feeling a rush of intense heat pool deep inside my stomach. The sheer dominance in his voice made my knees feel weak.
I spun around to face him completely.
Our eyes met across the small space between us. Even through the red mask covering the upper half of my face and the dim club lights, I could see the sharp, striking angles of his jaw and his dark, intense eyes staring down at me with pure hunger. The tension between us spiked instantly, thick enough to cut with a knife.
Before either of us could say another word, he reached out, his warm hand cupping the back of my neck, and pulled me straight into a deep, crushing kiss.
His lips were warm, demanding, and tasted faintly of expensive whiskey. A wave of dizziness hit me—partly from the alcohol I had consumed, and partly from the sheer intensity of the kiss. I could taste the liquor lingering on his lips as our mouths moved together in a desperate, heated rhythm. My hands instinctively reached up, gripping the lapels of his dark jacket to pull him even closer, erasing any remaining space between our bodies.
The kiss deepened, becoming greedier and more urgent with every second. He groaned softly against my mouth, a sound that sent another jolt of pure electricity straight through my veins.
Finally, the man pulled back just a fraction of an inch, his chest rising and falling heavily as he stared down at me through the dim red glow of the lights.
"Let's go back to my place," he whispered against my lips, his voice thick with a raw, demanding edge. "Let's finish this there."
My mind was hazy, swimming in a thick pool of alcohol and unreleased frustration, but without an ounce of hesitation, I nodded slowly.
Within minutes, we were outside in the cool night air. He flagged down his sleek, dark sports car parked along the VIP lane, opening the passenger door for me. As soon as I slid into the leather seat, he slammed the door shut, ran around to the driver's side, and jumped inside.
The engine roared to life with a deep, powerful growl. The man shifted gears aggressively, stepping hard on the gas pedal. The car shot forward like a bullet, tearing through the empty lanes of the midnight highway at a dizzying speed.
As the city lights blurred into long streaks of color outside the window, a heavy wave of reality crashed back into my spinning head.
My chest tightened painfully. I stared out into the dark windshield, the image flashing relentlessly behind my eyelids—my boyfriend of two years, holding Mia beneath him. My best friend. The person I trusted most in the world.
How could they? How could he look at me the way he did every single day and then do that? And Mia... the girl I shared lunch breaks with, the one who listened to all my rants about work. The pain flared up inside me, sharp and bitter, burning behind my eyes. Tears threatened to spill over again, but I bit down hard on my lower lip, blinking furiously to force them back. I refused to cry anymore. Tonight was not about them. Tonight, I was going to forget.
The car slowed down abruptly as it turned into the secure gates of an exclusive residential subdivision, stopping smoothly in front of a modern, two-story minimalist house with dark glass windows.
Before the engine had even completely shut off, the man unbuckled his seatbelt, leaned across the center console, and captured my lips in another searing, desperate kiss that completely wiped every lingering thought of betrayal straight out of my mind.
He killed the engine, pushed open his door, and hurried around to my side. Before my feet could even touch the pavement, his strong arms swept under my thighs and lifted me effortlessly into the air. I wrapped my legs around his waist, clinging to his broad shoulders while our lips locked together once again in a fierce, breathless kiss as he carried me up the front steps and through the heavy wooden front door of his home.
The hallway was dark, illuminated only by the faint moonlight filtering through the tall glass windows. He kicked the front door shut behind us with a loud thud, locking us away from the rest of the world.
"Off lights only, please," I whispered softly against his lips, breaking the kiss for a brief second as he carried me toward the staircase leading to his bedroom.
He paused on the first step, a low, approving hum vibrating in his chest. I didn't want any light. I didn't want to see anything that reminded me of my messy reality. I just wanted to feel, to drown out the agony in pure, raw sensation.
He continued up the stairs in the dark, his footsteps steady and confident, carrying me straight down the second-floor hallway until he pushed open the door to his master bedroom.
He stepped inside, walking straight toward the large, king-sized bed in the center of the room. He lowered me gently onto the soft mattress, the plush sheets cradling my back as his heavy body followed me down, pressing over mine like a warm, sheltering blanket.
Slowly, deliberately, he reached up and untied the elastic band of the red masquerade mask from my face, tossing it carelessly onto the floor beside the bed. Then, with rough, eager fingers, he untied his own mask, letting it drop away into the darkness so that only the heavy shadows enveloped us.
His hands moved immediately to the hem of my simple dark polo shirt. With one swift, impatient tug, he pulled the fabric up and over my head, discarding it onto the floor. The cool night air hit my bare skin, making my n*****s harden instantly against the chill.
A low growl left his throat as his dark eyes swept down over my bare torso in the dim light. Without wasting another second, his warm palms cupped my bare breasts, his thumbs brushing lightly over the sensitive peaks.
"God, you're stunning," he muttered hoarsely against my collarbone.
I arched my back instinctively, a soft gasp escaping my lips as his mouth descended, capturing one hardened n****e between his lips. The sensation was electric, a sharp jolt of pure pleasure that shot straight down to my core, making my hips lift off the mattress in search of more friction.
His tongue swirled hotly over the sensitive skin, teasing and sucking until I was gripping the thick muscles of his shoulders so hard my fingernails dug into his skin. My breathing turned ragged, every sound echoing softly in the quiet, dark room.
His hand slid down my stomach, tracing the sensitive skin below my waistline. With practiced efficiency, he unbuttoned and unzipped my flat pants, pushing the fabric down my legs along with my underwear, stripping me completely bare beneath him.
He shifted his weight, moving down my body until his face hovered right between my open thighs. Without any hesitation, he parted my sensitive folds with his fingers and pressed his warm mouth directly against my core.
A loud, breathless gasp ripped straight from my throat, my hands flying down to clutch tightly at the bedsheets as his tongue flicked across my sensitive bundle of nerves with expert, deliberate precision. The sudden, intense heat of his tongue swirling over me sent a violent electric shock straight through my spine. I arched my back off the mattress, whimpering softly in the dark as he sucked gently on my swollen flesh, building a heavy, wet rhythm that made my core throb violently. Every stroke of his tongue felt like liquid fire, driving every single thought of betrayal and pain out of my mind until all I could process was the exquisite friction of his mouth devouring me. My hips twitched uncontrollably, chasing the unbearable pleasure as he drank me in, pushing me closer and closer to a shattering edge until a breathless cry broke from my lips and I shook violently in the dark as my first climax washed over me.
He pulled back slowly, sliding back up my body while I panted heavily, my skin slick with sweat and my entire body shivering from the intensity.
He shifted between my thighs, his heavy weight settling perfectly over me. I parted my legs wider, wrapping my limbs around his waist to pull him as close as humanly possible.
He reached down, stripping off the rest of his clothing in the dark, before pressing his hard, heavy length against my soaked entrance. The sheer heat of him made my breath hitch in my throat.
"Look at me," he whispered in the darkness, his voice a low, commanding rasp right beside my ear.
Even though I couldn't see his face clearly in the shadows, I could feel the intense heat of his gaze. I tilted my chin up, feeling his hot breath against my lips just as he gave a slow, deep push forward.
The heavy, stretching sensation filled me completely, pulling a loud, breathless gasp from my lips. My back arched hard against the mattress as he buried himself deep inside me in the classic missionary position. For a second, the sheer fullness of him stole all my air, and I gripped his broad shoulders tighter, my nails digging into his skin as I adjusted to the intense heat of his body.
He stayed still for a moment, letting me get used to him, his heavy chest rising and falling against mine. Then, he started to move.
The first thrust was slow, deliberate, and agonizingly deep. Every nerve ending in my body lit up with intense, blinding pleasure. I let out a ragged moan, my hips rising automatically to meet his rhythm, craving the friction, craving the heavy weight of him driving all the bitter thoughts completely out of my mind.
The pace picked up quickly, turning fast, hard, and desperate. The sound of our skin slapping together filled the quiet bedroom, mixing with our ragged, overlapping breaths. Every thrust hit deep inside me, sending wave after wave of intense heat spiraling outward from my core, making my toes curl and my entire body tremble violently.
"Uhhm.. Harder, please.." I whispered into the dark, my voice thick with a reckless, consuming desire. "Please... harder."
He didn't need to be told twice. His hands gripped my hips tightly, holding me firmly in place as he pounded into me with heavy, relentless strokes. Each push was deeper, faster, driving me closer and closer to the edge of a sheer, dizzying cliff.
Wanting to change the angle, he pulled back slightly, his hands sliding around my waist to flip me over onto my hands and knees. I gasped as he entered me from behind, shifting us smoothly into the doggy style position. The change in angle hit a completely new, incredibly sensitive spot deep inside my core, drawing a loud, uncontrolled cry from my lips.
His large hands clamped firmly onto my hips, anchoring me in place as he drove into me from behind with furious, relentless power. Every hard thrust pushed me forward against the mattress, the deep penetration sending violent waves of pleasure crashing straight through my chest. The friction was incredible, every single stroke making me wetter and tighter around him.
The pleasure was almost overwhelming, burning hot and fierce through my veins. My vision blurred behind my closed eyelids as rainbow patterns flashed in the dark. My fingers tangled wildly in the bedsheets, my back arching perfectly to take every brutal, perfect inch of him.
"Oh God," I choked out into the dark, my voice breaking under the weight of the intense sensations tearing through my body.
He groaned deeply behind me, his strokes turning even faster and heavier, completely losing control as the friction reached a fever pitch. My core tightened violently, a massive wave of pure, blinding release building up from deep within my chest and crashing down over me all at once.
A breathless, trembling scream tore from my throat as I shattered completely beneath him, my inner muscles clamping down tightly around his length as wave after wave of intense, earth-shattering pleasure ripped through my entire body.
Pushed over the edge by my climax, the man let out a deep, gravelly shout into the dark, his body going rigid as he gave a few final, crushing thrusts deep inside me before releasing himself completely, flooding me with his warmth.
For a long, silent moment, neither of us moved. We lay tangled together on the rumpled sheets in the pitch-black room, our chests heaving in unison, our skin slick with a sheen of warm sweat, completely lost in the heavy, quiet aftermath of the night.
The heavy silence in the dark bedroom felt suffocating. My chest rose and fell in ragged breaths, the cold air chilling the sweat on my skin. Beside me, the man was fast asleep, his breathing deep and steady from the wild night we shared.
I pulled the dark blanket up to my chin, staring blindly into the shadows. The adrenaline was fading, leaving behind a hollow emptiness that drifted back to the agonizing image of Leo and Mia. The man beside me stirred slightly but didn’t wake up. There were no names, no promises—just a temporary escape from reality.
Carefully, I sat up without making a sound. I gathered my clothes in the dark, slipping my polo shirt and flat pants back on. I tied the red masquerade mask over my eyes, the stiff velvet feeling strange against my skin now. Without looking back at the sleeping stranger, I walked quietly toward the front entrance.
Stepping out into the cool pre-dawn air, the stark reality of my life hit hard. The sun was peeking over the horizon as I walked down the suburban street to flag down a morning taxi.
As the car sped through the waking city, I stared out the window with a cold, quiet resolve. I couldn't run away forever. I would have to face Leo and Mia soon. But something inside me had broken during the night, and out of those shattered pieces, a stronger version of myself was finally taking shape, ready to fight back against the pain and build a completely new future.
