Today was the day. I was finally going to the human world. Father had called us downstairs, so we had all gathered in the sitting room.
“I have selected a few houses, but I do not even know where you want to stay,” Father said, and I raised my hand. After being acknowledged, I said,
“Benoni is perfect, Father.” He nodded, then called someone. We waited until he finished the call. “Father, can Mondea come with us as well?” I requested.
“If she agrees to go, then I do not see why not.” He said. “Also, everyone who is leaving should be ready in thirty minutes; the portal will be open by then.” I was so excited that I could not wait.
“Yes, father,” Christopher said, and everyone got back to what they were doing. I did not want to be late, so as soon as I entered my room, I bathed, and when I was done, I looked for clothes to wear, but I had no idea what because my closet was filled with princess gowns, and my secret closet was filled with inappropriate clothes. A knock came from my door, and I allowed the person to enter.
“Princess, I have brought an outfit for you,” Mondea informed me, and I ran to where she was. She looked beautiful. I guessed she had already been told the news, and she had agreed. She was wearing a black skirt that reached just above her knees, a white short-sleeved bodysuit, and she finished her look with short black boots. She was always pretty, but human clothing made her even prettier.
“You look beautiful.” I complimented her, and she bowed.
“Thank you, princess.” She said before leaving my room, and I got dressed. I also looked good in my blue torn high-waist jeans, a black sleeveless crop top, and black sneakers. I let my hair flow down and wore a black cap because, according to Jayden, the human world is very hot and not cool and chilled like Melodia. I was done with my preparations in twenty-five minutes, and then I made my way downstairs. Our parents and siblings who were staying behind came to bid us farewell. Father, gave us all cards which apparently had money in them. I kept looking at my black card strangely.
“Are you saying this thing has money in it?” I asked again, and Father laughed at me.
“Yes, my princess, whatever you want, you can get it by using that card, and the pin for the card is the year you were born, and that also applies to the rest of you,” Father said, addressing the rest. “Please also take care of each other. The human world is not a safe place, so please tread with caution.”
“I will protect them, Father,” Christopher assured him. After crying and saying our goodbyes, Christopher, Suki, Fillan, Faesy, Jayden, Mondea, and I made our way to the portal, which was in the forest just behind the castle. When we arrived, all the security that was protecting the portal was disabled, and the portal was now visible, but it would not be like that for long. We had five minutes to open it because if it disappeared before we were done, then we had to call the old wizard to come and open it for us, which would be tricky. After all, he did not like going back and forth. All these precautions were in place because we did not want any humans or other creatures stumbling into our kingdom. Christopher said the incantations required and the portal opened. We had to hold hands because after one person was through, the portal would close, so we held onto each other tightly and stepped into the portal one after the other, and when we were all inside, it closed, and then there was spinning. This was not fun at all. I felt light-headed, and I wanted out as soon as possible. After a minute, it stopped spinning, and we were standing somewhere strange. We were standing on top of a black pathway, and things were moving on it. Christopher did some research, and we found out that what we were standing on was a road, and cars were driving on it. We also had cars in our realm, but it was nothing like what we were seeing.
“Cool!” I exclaimed, and they all laughed at me.
“Just a minute ago, you were looking all scared and perplexed,” Suki said, laughing, and I hit his arm jokingly.
“Let us go find our house. I am certain that this road will lead us to it.” Christopher said, and we began walking. After a while of walking, Christopher shouted,
“I found it.” We walked towards the gate and found a man waiting for us. He looked to be in his mid-twenties, and he was hot as well.
“Good evening.” He said, and I looked around. It was still so bright outside, so how was it evening, I wondered. Everything about the human world intrigued me, and that made me queasy with excitement. “Is one of you Christopher?” The hot stranger asked after we had greeted him.
“I am.” My brother said, holding his head high.
“It’s so cool to meet you, dude. Your old man told me that we would get along so well.” He said, and we all looked at each other, confused because what wording was that? Was that even a proper sentence? I wondered if everybody spoke like that in this strange world.
“What old man are you talking about?” Faesy asked, and the stranger, who had still not cared to inform us about his name, looked at him weirdly.
“Do not look at him like that. He is just asking a question,” Fillan said, and the stranger apologized.
“I meant your father, ooh, and by the way, I'm Austin.” He finally introduced himself, and we took turns introducing ourselves as well. After all formalities were done, he gave us a tour of the house. The house was big and beautiful. It had eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a spacious modern kitchen, a dining table with a huge black frame hanging on the wall, a sitting room, a library, a room with weird equipment, that Austin referred to as a gym, but what was it used for? And there was also an empty room which we could fill with whatever we wanted. I led everyone back to the dining room.
“What is that?” I asked Austin, pointing at the huge black frame on the wall, and he laughed at me. The audacity this guy had; I scoffed.
“You don’t know what that is?” I glared at him, and he stopped laughing.
“If I knew, I would not have asked, so do you care to inform me?” I asked. He took something on top of the glass table that was in the room, pressed it, and the black thing started showing people.
“That, everyone is a TV, where you can watch movies, series, sports, music, or even animation.” He said.
“Ooh, I know what it is. I heard that humans like to entertain themselves with it.” Faesy said, “See, we are not so clueless after all.” He continued with a smirk.
“What do you mean by humans?” Out of all the things Faesy said, he picked up that one. He looked at us suspiciously, but I did not blame him because we were a weird group of faeries.
“He did not mean anything by that; he just likes referring to us people as humans, which we are, of course.” Christopher managed to salvage the situation, I think.
“Ooh, okay. It was nice meeting you all, but now I must dash. If you guys need anything or there are any complaints, contact the agency.” Austin said, handing over a card to Christopher. He headed towards the door, so I guess that dash must have meant to leave. After Austin left, Christopher addressed us.
“That guy smells weird.” He said, and I could not help but agree with him.
“I know what you mean,” I confirmed, and the others agreed with us, but since we were all tired, we did not dwell on it and instead went to our respective chambers, which were chosen by playing a game of rock, paper, scissors. Christopher was the oldest, so it was only natural that he used the main bedroom, and that is why he did not participate in the game. I was the third one to choose, so I chose a spacious bedroom with an aesthetic view, and it was located upstairs. The house was fully furnished. My bedroom was plain for now, but I had a card that apparently had money in it, and I was going to decorate my room the way I saw fit. I was going to have to take Mondea with me because I was certain that she would also want to decorate her room, and we also had to buy human clothes. I took a bath in the rainy tap. I called it that because the water was coming out from the tap above me. It was fun bathing there. After I was done bathing, I went to bed naked because I had no pajamas to wear. Instead of sleeping, I researched everything I could about the human world because I did not want to feel mortified again. I found out that the rainy tap was a shower, and I learned about things that I had not seen yet, like drones, and I also saw videos of people in the gym. I could not hold on anymore, so I succumbed to sleep.
