Abaddon's POV
I had only been asleep for about fifteen minutes and suddenly I was trapped inside a horrible dream. If you could even call it that.
I stood in the hideous apartment unable to do a thing when he laid hands on my angel. She fell and I stood by idle. Planted into place while the nightmare flashed in front of me.
No matter what I did, she was unable to hear me cry her name out. I was trapped watching as my mate took the abuse from this man.
I wanted to rip this man apart. Tear his limbs one by one from his body.
When he hesitated to strike her again I noticed something. Beneath his white tank top was a tattoo. Along his ribs.
As if time slowed, I took in all I could of this man. Red hair, blue eyes, scars and that tattoo I couldn't quite make out.
Athena was looking to the ground trying to avoid direct eye contact. That didn't matter, I saw it. The flash of blacked eyes. Dark and unmistakeable.
Then he left.
Athena finally asleep on the couch. I watch her peacefulness. Beautiful in every way.
While she slept I tried to figure out who this man was. Looking around, I could see a baby bed and not much else to give clues. I could only assume this man was Aleksandr's father.
The peacefulness was interrupted by shouting. Athena frantically looking for keys and then he was gone again.
...
I woke up heated and ready for a fight.
How could anyone treat my mate so poorly. She was perfect. Abusing her repeatedly. Yet, she stayed so strong.
It was barely light out, but I couldn't sleep any longer. The kitchen was my aimed mission at that moment.
When I reached the hallway, Athena's scent filled my nose. I smiled at the thought of her sleeping just across the hall from me. I wanted her next to me. I wanted her safe and close. The guest room was as far as I was willing to push though.
Reaching the kitchen, though the light was off, I knew someone was there. Her scent wrapped around me completely. I hated this scent. It was like cheap perfume and exhaust fumes.
I flipped the light on. "What are you doing in the pack house, Kamryn? It isn't breakfast yet."
"I came to see you. Isn't that obvious? I wanted to make you a breakfast in bed, but you spoiled it," Kamryn said with a pout.
"I don't want any food from you," I said in a huff. This woman could burn water. I certainly would kill over from any food she made being consumed.
Kamryn was a Delta daughter and still unmated. She and I went to grade school together, though she was a year behind me. We had a one time fling back in high school that I very soon regretted.
I walked to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. Thirst from the nightmare still overwhelming me. When I turned around, Kamryn was right in front of me.
"When are you going to let me loosen those tight muscles up for you again, Ab?" she said while snaking her arms up my chest and around my neck.
"Kamryn, you are crazy and that's never going to happen. I have a mate now. Leave me alone." I threw her arms off of me and walked around the counter.
"Mated? Bull s**t. This is just another ploy to push me away again. You're wrong for doing that. I don't get it." She paused and looked at me with lustful eyes. "Unless you're telling me you finally realized the pull?"
"What the hell are you talking about, Kamryn?" I said sternly.
"I have known. Since our teen years that you were my mate. I have felt the pull for years. Please tell me you feel it, too," she begged of me.
"Kamryn, you have lost your s**t now. There isn't a pull between us. Never has been and never will be. So, buzz off and find someone new to pester."
"You are such an ass. You're my mate and I know it!" she shouted at me while I sipped my water.
A smug look crossed my face. "Well then it is settled isn't it?"
Hopefulness crossed her face. I walked out the front door and she followed. I spotted a few early goers walking the yard and starting their days. They would be able to hear and see everything that was about to happen.
"Abaddon, everyone is going to see you mark me here. Do you want everyone to see?" she whispered.
Loudly I said, "Of course I do. I want everyone to know I found my mate."
Her face glowed red with embarrassment but she didn't retreat and neither did I. She had no idea what was about to happen.
I looked around to see the passerbys had at least double in amount. Many stopping to see what was going on.
"Just one thing before I mark my mate. She must shift with me. I must see her wolf or counter part before I can mark her. Can you do that for me dear?" I asked her with a wide smile on my face.
Kamryn's eyes widened at my words. Unmated meant she hadn't shifted yet. She still had yet to find her mate. The crowd around us was growing. This would be a good spectacle of embarrassment for her. A lesson learned.
"I can't do that," Kamryn pleaded.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I am too embarrassed to do so infront of so many people," she whispered.
"Is that so? Or is it because you cannot at all. An unmated wolf can't shift can they?" I smile. "See I want the pack to know I have met my mate and I know who she is."
"Then why embarrass your mate like this in front if everyone?" she asked.
"Yes Abaddon. I would love to know why embarrass your mate in front of everyone?" Athena's voice snapped Kamryn's attention.
"Who is this b***h?" Kamryn questioned.
"See Kamryn, I want my pack to know I found my mate. I want them to know who she is. But most if all, that you are absolutely not her," I said pulling Athena close.
Pure disgust filled Kamryn's features as she stormed away. I would say that is a win for the day.
"Gross." Athena stepped away from me sniffing the air around me.
"What's wrong??
"You smell like a cheap French w***e," she said distastefully.
I laughed and headed inside while taking my shirt off. I was stopped by a low growl coming from behind me. Putting my shirt back down I turned to see Athena. I wasn't expecting such a powerful growl from her.
I apologized with my eyes and kissed her forehead. I then head upstairs to wash the scent away. I didn't want Athena to suffer from Kamryn's awful scent lingering on her mate.
