Athena's POV As much as I wanted to stay, I had to face my mother. When Abaddon went to shower, I went to wake Aleksandr. I wasn't ready for her furry. The bright side was that I could let her know the meeting would be easily rescheduled. I didn't say goodbye to Abaddon. I asked Veronica to take me back to the diner to pick up my car. I was already headed home when my mother called. I didn't answer though. Whatever she needed to say could wait until I was home. I pulled into the driveway and before I could exit my vehicle, I was met by my mother. She was standing on the porch with her arms crossed. The heat was about to come down. I gathered Aleksandr into my arms and walked past my mother. She followed me inside, slamming the door behind us. "Why don't you go upstairs and play for a while?" I told Aleksandr while placing him on the ground. Once Aleksandr was out of site, my mother didn't hesitate to start the conversation. "Where were you? You made me look like a fool infront of the elders," she was already on edge. "Stop snapping. The meeting has been rescheduled. Besides I already got a few answers we needed," I waved her off. I walked into the kitchen needing caffeine. This was going to be a long conversation. I was going to initially avoid telling her about meeting my father, but there were things she needed to know. "So, how did you arrange a second meeting?" she said calmly. "Abaddon arrange it," replying nonchalantly. "Excuse me, but who?" her voice laced with sarcasm. "Black, he is the Harvest Moon pack leader," it was my dad whom responded. He entered the room kissing my mother's forehead and joining me at the counter. Shock at him knowing my mate must have been evident. My dad did his teasing look. That look that tells you that your parent is going to embarrass you about a crush you have. I rolled my eyes. "How do you know Abaddon Black daddy?" I questioned. I was trying to divert the teasing that was about to happen. "Who? The big hunky guy you are just waiting to get your paws on?" I failed. "He is the son of Krieger Black." "Krieger?" my mother interrupted. Why did my parents know my mates family before I did? "Yes dear," my dad said joining her at the table. I stood shocked. I needed answers but my mouth was sown shut. That didn't matter because my father continued. "He and I were best friends, Athena. I was meant to be his leading Beta. I was mated and she rejected me. Left the pack and I was alone. I spent many days patrolling the Forest. The Rouge wolves use to attack the Harvest Moon pack back then. It was an all out war. One night on patrol, I heard a baby crying." He smiled at my mother. "That's when he found us," she responded. "Wait. So you're telling me you didn't meet at the wearhouse working?" I question. "No, Athena. That was another story to hide the truth about wolves," my mother said sadly. "Okay. Continue," I ushered my dad. I needed to now this whole story. The truth. "I left the pack. I told Krieger that I was unfit to continue protecting the pack. I broke my bond with them and became a Rouge myself. This wasn't actually the worst decision though. The Rouges looked to me as a leader. I still had Beta blood and they sensed it. I easily became their unofficial pack leader," he continued. "So you're an Alpha?" I questioned. "No. I am not. The rouges aren't apart of a pack and since alpha blood didn't run through me, I couldn't create a new pack. Only an alpha can do that. However, the rouges did see me as their alpha. They listened. I was able to stop their attacks on the pack and soon Krieger came to me. He and I made a treaty. Peace between the rouges. Most of the members here were unmated outcasts that made a home for themselves. They really just wanted to feel like they had a pack." "So, you made that possible for them. What about mom and me?" I asked. "I arranged the rouges into a unit. They helped conceal their counterparts and protected you. They all felt a purpose again so they did what I asked," he shrugged. I felt a weight off of my shoulders. I now knew why I had never see any wolves around here. They hid themselves well from me. "Why did you need to protect me?" this question swirling in my head. "Your father wanted to take you. He knew you were powerful and wanted to use that power. I still don't know what for though," my mother answered. I needed to sit down. This felt like an overload of information and I still felt like I didn't know anything. There was a knocking on the front door. I took this as an opportunity to walk away and reset my thinking. That wasn't going to happen though. Opening the door, I was instantly hit with his scent. "Abaddon? What are you doing here?" I was in total shock. "Athena? Why are you here?" he was as confused as I was. "What do you mean? This is my family's house. I live here." I still wanted to know why he was there, but my father invited him inside before he could answer. "Sorry for the intrusion Mr. Smith. I am here on official pack duties," he said while shaking my father's hand. "Good to see you Alpha. Come sit with us at the kitchen table." They walked into the kitchen leaving me shocked. I was still too curious not to follow. We all sat down to hear what Abaddon had to say. "Mr. Smith," Abaddon began. My dad interrupted him, "Raymond. Just call me that. Mr. is too formal." "Apologies, Raymond. I have come to reform the alliance under my new ruling as Alpha. Sir, I want to keep the peace between the pack and the rouges," Abaddon continued. "Well, I knew you would be here soon enough. Whether this or to tell us you're mated to our daughter," my dad said as if with no care. Both Abaddon and myself sat stiff. My mother was the one with horror in her eyes. "What? You all look like you have seen a ghost," my father chuckled. "How did you know?" I asked. "Well, his scent is all over you. I wasn't absolutely sure at first though. It was a faint scent since he hasn't marked you. To top that off, he slightly smelled of another female wolf when he showed up. Your faces are what gave it away. All I had to do was announce it and then you told on yourself," he said so sure of himself. "Oh. Now your proud of yourself?" I rolled my eyes. "What? I am your dad. It's my job to play detective. Plus, Athena you smelled like the woods and something new. I could tell you became one with your counterpart. So, What is she?" he asked. He was referring to Azriel. "Fox." "Very interesting. A fox mated to a Alpha wolf. Surprisingly not any alpha either. The strongest of them all," he said. My mother stood from the table and slammed her hand down. "How? How can you two be mated? She isn't even a full shifter," I could hear how upset my mother was. For years she concealed this world from me and now it was becoming everything. So much had changed in such a short time and my mother was not taking it well. "For years you hid everything from me. Is it so surprising that came back to bite you in the ass?" I snapped at her. "You mind your tone in my house little girl,"she pointed at me. "Excuse me? This is all your fault. My whole life is a lie. This whole house was filled with nothing but lies! I won't mind anything because you lied to me. I have had enough of this!" I was shouting. I could feel my anger consuming me. How dare she act like this? "You need to leave," she said in a low voice. "I am sorry to have come at a time like this," Abaddon stood and looked to me. I silently pleaded him not to go. "All of you. Athena, too. Leave," my mother spoke. She wanted me out along with Abaddon. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I only invited you here again to restore the spell that concealed your powers. Since that wont be happening, you need to go. You haven't been sick, just the spell wearing off and obviously your counter part trying to break through," she explained. She was right. Since Azriel had broken through and my powers had come out, all of my dizzy spells and pains had left. I was better than I had ever felt. "You don't need me anymore, Athena. You should go. Abaddon can protect you now since he is your mate," she said not looking at me. I stormed upstairs and gathered all of my things. Packing them back into my car. As I placed Aleksandr in his seat, my dad spoke with Abaddon. I was embraced in a hug by my dad before I got into my car. "She is angry now, but she'll be fine later. Besides, you need to be with your mate. He is good for you and will protect you. I put some books that will be useful to your magic in the front seat. Good luck, I love you," he said with tears. "Not more history books right?" I managed to grab a smile from him. "No, spells and ability books. These should help you control and harness those powers," he said. Then walked away. I got a lot of answers and a lot of unanswered questions. This was going to be different. I was just glad my dad was still on my side.
