Elia POV:
Artemis was overjoyed that I called this alpha my mate. And I really have to learn his name soon. I don't want to just keep calling him 'Mate' because it feels weird. Justin stared at me and then him, looking between the two of us, especially after I declared him my mate. The other pack members stared as well. "You have a second chance mate?" I hear my father ask. I turn to look and he's brought me out one of his shirts that I quickly slip into. Even though I could tell Justin was a little furious at the shirt. He was still a man and based on what he tried to do earlier, loved seeing my body unclothed.
"Yes, father," I admit. He gets closer to my mate and smells the air around him then me again. My heart starts to pound as I see the wheels turning in his head and he smiles softly at me.
My mate looks very confused, but... happy? Not sure why, but he slips his hand into mine. I attempt to pull my hand from his, but he doesn't let me. "This is who touched you, wasn't it? Not Justin?" My lack of response only furthers his investigation. 'What happened Elia? You can trust me, you know that, right?' he mind-links when I don't answer.
'Yes, I know. And the truth is... it was both of them. After I found my mate, Justin tried to get me to sleep with him. I-I think.' Father looks back at Justin and grunts before looking at my mate and inspecting him, not that he can do anything.
"What's your name son?" Father asks. Before he can even speak, Justin has already interjected.
"That doesn't matter. He's a trespasser, which by our rules means he's to be killed. And he can't be your mate, Elia, because I am. And we both know that," he says smugly. My mate growls and so does Artemis.
"And you know as well as I do you lost that title four years ago," she snaps. I'm tired of this. He rejected me, but still expects me to chase after him and want to be with him. I refuse to have my heart toyed with. "If he came here, it's because he was looking for me."
There's a fire in Justin's eyes as he looks at me. "Why don't we go to my office and we can discuss this privately?" He reaches for my arm but my mate pushes himself between us so he can't get to me, growling. I guess there's one perk of having him around.
"To answer your question, sir, I am Zane Slaton. Alpha of the Emerald River pack, and Elia's mate," Zane says. His voice makes my knees go weak and it's everything I can do not to mate and mark him right here. Father nods and then waves his hand before walking towards the warrior quarters. I immediately followed as he didn't like to be kept waiting.
Zane pulls on my arm and the sparks make my body ache to be with him. I move my head in the direction my father was and he walks with me. Justin growls, but there's not much he can do. But I guess his curiosity got the better of him as he follows us.
A few minutes later, Alpha James and his wife appear, looking between Zane, who still has my hand and is very much naked still, Justin who is angrily following, and me, whom Zane is keeping at a safe enough distance from Justin. My father just nods his head like he's confused too and Alpha James starts leading us to his office in the pack house.
When we get there, he sits behind his desk and Luna Lilith stands behind him. Justin takes a seat in the front of the desk and Zane pulls me into his lap. My father comes in for a second before leaving out and grabbing a pair of shorts for me and Zane. He reluctantly lets me go so I can put some more clothes on while he does the same thing. "Alpha Zane, right?" Alpha James asks. Zane nods. "What brings you to our pack? Surely you know it's treason to trespass."
"I do sir, but my mate was in danger. I couldn't sit back while she could be hurt," Zane says. Alpha James looks at me a little surprised and I just nod. I wanted to get up and stand by myself, but one look at Zane and I know he would stop me in a heartbeat.
"Is that so?" Zane nods and buries his face in my neck. I can tell Justin is furious. "And you feel this pull as well Elia? It's not just him?"
I shake my head and Justin slams his hands on the desk, glaring at me and Zane then looking at his dad. "That shouldn't be possible!! I'm her mate!" he yells. Alpha James rolls his eyes and if looks could kill, Justin would be dead.
"If I recall, your mate is Serra. You rejected Elia years ago for a Chosen Mate. You do not get to pick and choose who you want to be mated to when you feel like it. Furthermore, you will not ruin this bond just because your pride is hurt that she has a Second Chance mate and you did not," Alpha James responds with a cold tone that sends shivers down my spine. Zane places a kiss on my right shoulder blade and sends a different kind of shiver through my body. "Now, what I want to know, Elia... is why would your mate sense you in distress? You're more than safe here."
I can't help but glance at Justin, my heart starting to race a little. "Um..." The only way I would be safe is if I left with Zane if I told this story. Justin would make my life a living hell if I stayed. I had a feeling he could and would protect me. Justin's changed so much after being with Serra. And not in a good way. "After the battle that we had won, me and the other warriors went to shower, grab some clothes, and celebrate. Justin was waiting there for someone. When he saw me, he started to beg me to be his beta. When I refused, he grabbed me and started pulling me towards to pack house. I defended myself and ran," I explain. James looks at his son who just glares at me. I'm not known to fear anyone, even this man, but what he did would shake up even the strongest of women.
Zane tightened his grip on me, pulling me closer to him. Father shook his head. "Do you have anyone to corroborate your story? That's a huge claim against your alpha," Justin says smugly. I freeze because I know it was just me and him there. But before I can shake my head, there's a knock on the door. Father looks at James before opening it. Daniel, my nosy best friend, stands in the doorway.
"Not to barge in, or eavesdrop. But I can corroborate her story, Alpha James," he says, smirking at me. Thank the Moon. It's not very often that when he spies on me comes to my benefit. "Alpha Justin was waiting outside the warrior quarters. Any one of our men can verify that. He was also waiting for Elia as he didn't stop anyone but her as the rest of us went inside. Since Elia has a habit of mouthing off, I stayed behind to make sure she didn't get her ass kicked or something. He pleaded with her to be his beta because no one else was fit for the position. Elia told him she was happy and content where she was already. When she tried to move past him, he grabbed her arm and pulled her as close as possible before pulling her towards the pack house. She stepped on his foot, smacked him, and then elbowed him, leaving him in enough of a daze that she was able to run inside."
Justin turns his heated gaze towards Daniel. If I leave, I have to take him with me or Justin will make his life a living hell. "Right. Elia, you are pardoned from the assault against your alpha as it was well provoked. Zane is pardoned for trespassing. And since my i***t son cannot seem to handle his title just yet, I will be taking it back as of now," James says. Justin takes in a sharp breath as the power of being demoted runs through him. Of course, it doesn't do much because he's going to get it back later and it's not that far of a step. "Now... Alpha Zane. I know your reason for being at war with us, but I would like to issue a peace treaty if that's alright. We really do not have your sister here, but I would be more than happy to help you look for her. I am not an unreasonable man and will do everything in my power to make sure she gets found."
Zane looks at me, almost like he wants my approval of this. I know Alpha James very well. He and my dad were the best of friends when I was little. Their friendship only grew from what I saw. He's a very kind and just Alpha that listens to all sides of a story before deciding something which makes him very likable. One of the reasons our pack is so big actually. People like him. "He's telling the truth, you can trust him, " I say. He nods as if he believes me.
"Then I agree. And the fighting can stop." Alpha James grins and I can't help but smile too, happy my mate seems like a reasonable man. "But I'm taking Elia away," he says. I start to protest when Father nods his head in agreement and that puts out any fire I may have had. If Father thinks I should go, then I should. He's never failed me before, but that would mean possibly accepting my mate, which I'm far from ready to do.
As if reading my thoughts, Father smiles at me. "It won't be forever dear. You can always come back for a visit," he reassures me and Zane nods. I smile back and stand up, to Zane's dismay.
"Then I should go pack my things, get some proper clothes, and say goodbye, for now at least." Alpha James allows me to go and I bow a little. He nods in my direction and waves me out. I start to sprint to the warriors' quarters, Daniel at my heels. "Down boy-" I laugh and he laughs too, nudging me.
"You know what they say right? If at first, you don't succeed, find a better man," he grins. I roll my eyes and he laughs again at me. "You know it's true because you did exactly that. None of us liked Justin. Especially me. I heard what he did. And on your birthday?"
Thankfully we were far enough away to talk sh*t. "Yeah... maybe you can help me pack. And maybe you can come with?" I ask, slightly hopeful. I knew it was a long shot, but a girl could dream. Daniel thought long and hard about it before he nodded his head. A smile breaks on my face as well as his.
"Though I should ask Alpha James and your dad. It might make them a little more comfortable with you going, y'know?" he says and I agree. I would be more comfortable as well. Daniel sets off the way we came and I sigh, going to my room to pack away my important clothes and such. I wonder what this move will have in store for me.
