Chapter One Sunday September 3, 2017 We suffer from heartbreak for our entire lives and then we get heart disease and die. It says it right on the package—leading cause of heart disease—is it? It still hurts to think of the deaths but the addiction is hard to kick. We hold onto cigarettes more than they hold onto us. The only benefit, as I see, is that, more so than generosity and kindness, smoking attracts people. It attracts the wrong kind of people—people that although they smoke cigarettes, are capable of changing the course of your life for better or for worse. Paula and Sarah were that, but I think writing about it, and the ego trip of writing a book caused me to have a downturn in my luck. Not to mention the book was about loving the wrong woman.
