The poor maid
The breeze curled Beth's delicate hair, and Beth breathed greedily in the fresh air. It had been three days since she had accompanied the lady to this farm, and it was a rare time for her to catch her breath. She would only feel suffocated when she was in the Duke's castle. "Beth, come here and get my bow and arrows." It was the lady calling her. Beth immediately ran to the storehouse and grabbed Missy's bow and arrows. Today was the day the Duke's sons and daughters were hunting, and she also had to serve by Miss's side. Sure enough, when she returned to the lady's side, her face was already hard. That young girl on the edge of the wheat wave has delicate curly hair and a pair of soulful and clear big eyes; because of anger, her white face penetrated a little red. This was Beth's young lady, the daughter of the Duke of Harrington, Alicia. At this moment, Alicia was impatient; she stared at Beth with big blue eyes. "Alicia, let's go." A man walked over and interrupted Alicia's seizure. He had red lips, white teeth, a high nose, and deep blue eyes that went right around Beth as if she didn't exist. This was Alicia's brother, Theodore, the Duke's son. Alicia glanced at Beth and followed behind him, with Beth following closely. She let out a quiet sigh of relief. Alicia wouldn't have let her go so quickly if it had been regular times. Just when Beth was naive enough to think she could get away with not being punished again today, Alicia was about to punish her, and she offered to make Beth the prey! Alicia always misses the rabbits in the forest. She wants Beth to run straight into the forest without wearing any protection. Beth remembered clearly that the last time the servant who had been the prey had run into the forest wearing only soft armor. When Beth finally saw the servant again, he only had one breath left. His body was full of arrows, and blood was coming out of his nose, mouth and mouth, and he finally died in agony. Alicia had wanted Beth to die! Beth was scared and sad; she didn't think that her young lady, who she grew up with, would let her die. But Beth couldn't rebel against her lady, who was her master. If she rebelled against her master's servant, she would be met with a more horrible end. But Beth didn't want to die, and she looked aside with supplicating eyes to Theodore, who had sworn to marry her last night. "Please, I can't go, I'll die." The man across from her just pursed his lips tightly and avoided her pleading gaze; he wouldn't do anything. Theodore loved Beth inside, but Beth was just the daughter of a humble maid. Last night, he proposed to his father that he marry Beth. Still, his father told him that if he did, he would lose his inheritance and be reviled by the people of the noble circle. He couldn't lose his inheritance or escape the noble circle, so he wouldn't help Beth. Alicia walked up and grabbed Beth's hair and shoved it forward, her eyes all evil. "Don't think you can be with my brother just because you have a pretty face; you're a lowly maid! You don't deserve my brother." She grabbed Beth and pushed her forward; Beth fell to the ground, covered in dirt. Beth felt despair; she knew Theodore wouldn't help her, and Theodore abandoned her. Fear and sadness covered her body and mind while the desire to survive pulled at her. She glanced back at Theodore, her eyes full of sorrow, and then she stopped looking back and ran deeper into the forest. Looking at the fleeing Beth, Alicia laughed maniacally, then rolled onto the horse behind her, grabbed her bow and arrow, and rode after her. Beth did not dare to stop for a moment to run deeper into the forest; by this time, the sky was getting dark, but the unmistakable sound of hooves coming up behind Beth made her feel fearful; as long as she was caught up, she would surely die. Her physical strength was quickly consumed, and she was just about to hide behind a large tree to take a rest when an arrow mercilessly plunged into her head. Her head and the arrow were only 2 centimeters away from each other. Her eyes widened in terror, and she could only continue to run forward. An arrow shot over, and her left arm was cut. She ran in panic as she humbly cried and begged. "Please, miss, don't let me die." Another arrow shot, this time directly into Beth's abdomen, blood instantly staining her dress like a flower in bloom. Beth felt the pain, and her feet gave out, and she was tossed down by the vines of a large tree. Another arrow came, and Beth's thigh was pierced by it; she couldn't stand up anymore and could only crawl forward with her hands. Alicia soon rode up. Alicia rolled over and dismounted from her horse. She walked directly in front of Beth; the oil lamp she carried illuminated half of Beth's face, and the look of horror was clearly visible on her face. Alicia looked down at her, lifted her foot, and stomped hard on Beth's hand; the heavy boots crushed Beth's hand so painfully that she let out a cry of shock at the pain. "Let's see you run; you're my prey; there's no escape." A contemptuous mockery came from Beth's head; she looked up with difficulty; Alicia looked at her like a tiny ant; no matter how much she struggled, it was futile; Beth fell into deep despair. At that moment, Theodore rode up as well, and Beth's blood-covered appearance stung his eyes. "Alicia, stop this nonsense." He tried to use his older brotherly authority to stop Alicia's crazy ways. Still, Alicia wasn't afraid of him at all. "Good brother, your affair with this lowly maid has upset father so much that even I am annoyed by him!" She then glared angrily at Beth on the ground. "It's all because this lowly maid seduced you! It's all because of you, woman!" Alicia cursed angrily while kicking hard at Beth on the ground with her foot. It was useless for Theodore to step forward and pull her back; she used a lot of force; Theodore didn't dare to exert too much; he was afraid of hurting his sister. "Don't be mad; she's just a maid; she's just an insignificant person compared to you and Father and the family," Theodore spoke desperate words; Beth's heart was so broken she could hardly breathe. From the beginning, this romance was her wishful thinking; she was just a humble maid; how could she fall in love with the noble Duke's son! It was all just her knowing delusion. Beth's heart was dying, but Alicia didn't think it was enough. She wanted Beth to despair completely! "If she's not worth caring about, then you'll kill her now. Use this bow and arrow and shoot your sword into her heart." The warm, dim light of the kerosene lamp shone on Alicia's face, but at the moment, the words she uttered were colder than the harsh winter snow. She stared at Theodore with her big, clear, innocent eyes, and the vicious words that came out of her mouth were more like sharp swords trying to cut Theodore's heart into a thousand holes. "I'm going to watch you kill her with your own hands."
