6: Indeed, A Badboy

Ava burped loudly, drawing everyone's attention to her. "Ooops. Sorry." She giggled. "Ava, that is very wrong of you." Mom scolded. "I'm so sorry, Mom." She made puppy eyes, pushing her empty plate aside. "It wasn't intentional. It's mannerless to burp loudly in a formal dinner and I promise I won't do it again." She apologized. Mom gazed at her, not saying a word. "I'm done eating, can I go to sleep now?" She grinned. "You can't sleep immediately you're done eating," "But I'm bored of staying here. This isn't how I imagined the party to be? I expected balloons, birthday hats, confetti, cakes, princess—" "Ava, this isn't a 5-year-old Birthday party." Nora said through gritted teeth. Dad called for a maid who immediately sprinted here. "Take Ava to her room. Her food has to digest before you tuck her to bed, okay?" "Yes, sir." The Maid nodded politely, helped Ava get out of her seat then led her out of sight. I was done eating as well. I wished I could leave here instantly. Heavens knew how frustrated Henry must've been. I held my phone up and read Jax's message again. 'Other things to do like being blazing hot?' Reading that surely ignited fire in my head. What did he think he was? A damn god? I hissed, dropped the phone on the table. I observed Jax was staring at me, through my sideways glance. It was starting to feel awkward as he didn't stop staring at me for even a second. I turned my head to him and opened my mouth to say something. "Jax," Mom called. Thank goodness; I was going to snap at him to stop staring. I eyed him with irritation present in my glare. He didn't seem to care but averted his gaze to Mom. "So… you're done eating?" She asked rhetorically. "They should talk now, right?" She stared between Dad and the Dawsons. "Yeah, sure." Edward smiled. Mitchell huffed, fiercely at the Maid who still fanned her. Jeez… the poor thing ought to be out of life already from fanning such an annoying-looking person. "Talk? Why?" Jax spat. Didn't he realize he sounded so rude? "Jax?" Edward called between a smile. He tapped his fingers on the table like he was trying to caution Jax. "What? I'm not interested in having a discussion with her tonight. What do you want to know about me?" I flinched when he turned his head in my direction. "I'm Jax Dawson, 18 years old. I'm a bike racer, I'm crazy as you ought to know. I don't like people who often poke their noses in my business," what was with his rude tone? My eyebrows furrowed. "Jax," Edward called again. Ignoring his father, he continued. "I'm heartless, I'm a playboy, older ladies preferably." What the heck?! "I hate smiling, I hate flowers, I hate puppies, though I love dogs, I hate PEOPLE." His tone was venomous, it almost scared me. He was barking at me like I burnt all his life savings. "Jax, watch your words." Edward warned. He still ignored him. "I'm a g**g leader, I'd love to be a Mafia leader someday and I'm a boxer, a fighter." His face was really contorted. Was this seriously the person my parents wanted me to marry? I glanced at them. I wasn't surprised by how their mouths were agape. "Wait…" I trailed off, trying my best to not feel intimidated by his raspy tone. "Why are you a bike racer, a g**g leader? Why'd you love to be a Mafia boss?" Don't judge me for asking. I was one curious person. His eyes reddened at my question. He probably thought I wasn't going to ask? "I'm a bike racer because it's something I love, I'm a g**g leader because I love being in control. I'm a fighter because it's something I love also; breaking noses and feeling like the strongest of all." He bounced to his feet. "I'd love to be a mafia leader because my Uncle is one and I find it pretty cool." He glared at Mitchell. "Jax—" Mitchell was cut off by Jax's hand slammed against the table. "I'm outta here, I've got a fight to attend." He hissed, pushed his chair backwards so he could freely walk out of that spot. "Jax, don't you dare leave." Edward's husky and venomous tone made my internals hang in fear. My heart raced at how aggravated he sounded, unlike his angelic self a couple of minutes ago. It didn't seem to have an effect on Jax at all, he was probably used to it. How the heck could someone be used to that?! "I am leaving." He snorted. "Jax!" Edward bounced to his feet, causing us to flinch. Mom, Dad and Nora didn't say a word but had their eyes and mouth widened in fear as we watched the scene unfold right in front of us. "Edward, it's okay." Mitchell also rose to her feet which caused Dad then Mom to rise to their feet as well. She held Edward's back. "Let him go." "Why are you ruining your son's life?!" He spat. "This is no place to discuss such trash." Jax rolled his eyes. Nora rose to her feet so I felt the need to do so, I also got to my feet. Mitchell's exhaust-looking maid finally stopped fanning her and was panting for air. "I think you all need to settle a huge family issue before this dinner can work out well." Mom blurted, pointing between the Dawsons. "Why'd you all want us to get married?" Jax spoke again. "She obviously hates me." He took me aback by that. Unintentionally, a smile spread my lips apart. "You know that too?." My smile widened. He rolled his eyes. "Every girl swoons over me but you're either glaring at me or muttering angry-seeming words about me. I'm not blind. I can see a crazy person when it's obvious." He scoffed. "Gosh… I'm glad you know how much I hate you!" I beamed. He didn't give me the chance to speak further but resumed walking away. Mom, with her eyebrows furrowed in worry, held Dad's bicep. They whispered words I couldn't hear to each other. "Wait! What do you mean by crazy?" I only processed that part of his sentence well enough. "I'm crazy?" I huffed, fanning a hand over my face dramatically. "We'll know who's crazy!" I yelled at the top of my lungs but he didn't say anything, instead he staggered till he left the house. "Let's get going, Ed." Mitchell held her purse tightly, turned around to leave, without a 'goodbye'. Her Maid followed behind her in light footsteps. "I'm really sorry for this weird outcome. I promise it'll be better next time." Edward sheepishly apologized. He bit his lower lips gently, not looking into our eyes. He looked embarrassed at Jax's rude action. Why wouldn't he be? How the hell was Jax the opposite of this side of his father? "Okay," Dad nodded, holding Mom's hands that were around his bicep and gave them a light squeeze. "Goodbye." He waved politely, cleared his throat. He maintained a bold stance; shook his body and shoved his hands into his fronts pockets. His soothing smile appeared on his lips once more. "Goodbye." All four of us said in unison. "Goodnight, Mr Dawson." Nora uttered. We all watched him as he walked out of the house. "That's really who you're selling me out to?" I chuckled. "Stop saying it like we're 'selling you out'." Mom rolled her eyes, letting go of Dad's bicep. "That's what you're doing." I raised my voice amidst a laugh. "Well…" Dad trailed off, scratching his head. "This is so perplexing." He sighed. "It sure is." Nora said, and joined me to laugh. It wasn't exactly funny but I just couldn't stop laughing. My parents probably realized why I needed to hate him. The Dawsons had a big problem reeling within them. I wondered what caused such imbalance in their family. Who am I to wonder?
