7: Group Work!

"So what? You're not going to him?" Ensley raised her eyebrows at me. "No way! Didn't you read the text I literally just showed you? He has other important things to do like being blazing hot? Is he mad? Does he think I'm one of those girls like Cora that drools over him all the time? Okay, he doesn't; he clearly stated that he knows I hate it." I scoffed. "You're being dramatic about this. You're definitely curious to know what he has to say. Plus, he didn't lie by saying he's hot. Duh." She waved her hands around. "Wh–what!" I couldn't believe my ears. "You're in support of his egoistic words? He's dumb, not hot." I made sure to place a stress on 'dumb'. "What's your deal with Jax? Why can't you ignore the other part of the message and go talk to him." She took a bite of the Hamburger in her hands. "My deal with Jax? Haven't you been listening to me? He wants to be a damn Mafia leader! Well…" I folded my arms across my chest, maintaining a stable stance. "If he wants to talk, he should come to me, I wouldn't go to him. Scoff." I scoffed. She raised her eyebrows at me. "You've got a problem, Momma. And, you really don't have to say 'scoff' when you scoff." "I do what I want." I raised a hand. "Oh, whatever you say." She surrendered. "By the way, you've got plans for our stupid group project?" She took another bite of the hamburger. "What group project?" I nonchalantly asked, not bothering to think about it first. She paused, swallowed the bite of hamburger in her mouth. "Silly. The group assignment Mrs Day asked us to do, last Astronomy class." She reminded me. "Oh, I forgot." "You're so dumb." She chuckled. *** "Concerning your group projects," Mrs Day started. I decided to expand the groups. Having only two people in a group will surely be stressful for what you have to do. The more the better, right?" That led to noises from other classmates; some cheered about it while others groaned. I also groaned because that meant more people than only Ensley. "Why?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "It's better, silly." Ensley flicked my shoulder with a chuckle. "I don't have a problem with more people." "That's you. You're always friends with everyone. More people in my life only adds more drama and problems." I scoffed, folding my arms across my chest. She burst into laughter. "You don't have to make friends with them if you don't want to, you just need to focus on the outcome of the project." I rolled my eyes at her. Mrs Day shushed the class chattering then resumed talking. "You should at least hear me out before complaining." She flashed a grin at everyone. "You get to pick the group you want to merge with. You can only merge with one group. You should do that before the end of school today." She beamed. That led to another round of chattering. "See?" Ensley smiled at me again. "It makes no difference to me. Scoff." I scoffed. Her facial expression contorted. "Seriously, you should stop doing that." "Doing what?" "Saying 'scoff' when you scoff." She rose to her feet. I didn't realize I did it again. "Whatever." "I'll see you all at the close of school today then, bye students." Mrs Day announced then walked out of the class. There was an outburst of exchange of words within everyone in the classroom. "So, who should we pair with?" I asked, rising to my feet as well. "I don't know." We both glanced at the entire classroom. Ensley waved at Cora and her dumb nerdy best friend, Faith Key. They waved back at her but Cora made sure to shoot a glare at me. She approached Jax who was seated beside Julian with a couple of female students around him, begging to be in their group. For some reasons, the other ladies had to move away for Cora to stand in front of him. "Stupid." I snorted. "Hey dude," Cora called for Jax who only raised his head from his phone. She stood in akimbo with her fingernail between her teeth in a seductive manner, she fluttered her eyelashes flirtatiously. "Do you mind if we merge our groups?" I had never heard her speak with such charm. Jax peered at her for a while then rolled his eyes to Julian. "Are you ready to have lunch?" He asked him, completely ignoring her. I almost laughed at how Cora's jaw dropped but I didn't want to call attention to myself. "Jax," Julian rolled his eyes at him scoldingly. "I'm leaving if you're not." He rose to his feet. "Fine fine, I am." Julian did the same, tagging behind him. Everyone murmured to one another as he walked past Cora, with jealous girls giggling at her embarrassing moment. "Watch what I'll do." Ensley smirked. The way her brown eyes glistened warned me that she was up to no good. "Ensley, don't do anything stupid." I warned. She didn't heed to my warning but instead, "Jax!" She called, causing Jax to stop in his tracks. "Hi." She waved at him. "Julian, hey." "Hey!" Julian grinned. I began to pinch her from behind but that didn't stop her from proceeding with what she had to say. "Do you mind joining our group?" She questioned, wearing her stupid sweet smile. "Ensley?" I said through gritted teeth, tugging at her arm. "Sure, no problem." Julian spoke up, grinning as wide as ever. "Julian," Jax said boringly. His stupid gloomy look always pissed me off like crazy. "Let's just have lunch. Ensley, sorry but no." He didn't speak rudely to her. Ensley was everyone's favorite so there was no doubt he didn't snub her as much as he did to everyone else. "Okay, no problem." She waved him off. He nodded then resumed walking away with Julian. "Ensley, are you stupid?!" I slapped her shoulder but she burst into laughter. Cora and Faith walked up to us. "Ensley, this is so annoying. Wasn't I hot enough?" Cora had a frown on. "You are. You shouldn't take it to heart. Jax is a boring person." Ensley patted her shoulder. "How about we merge our groups together?" The blue-eyed blonde, Faith, asked, swaying her body like a child trying to be cute while asking for your last candy. "No!" Cora and I hollered in unison. We both glared at each other and huffed. "You're both immature." Ensley rolled her eyes. "I don't have a problem with you, Ensley. I don't want to be in the same group as her so it's a 'no' from me." She turned her head away from our direction. "Plus, whatever group I join, I have Faith who'll help me do 'all' the work." She elongated 'all'. "Right, Faith?" "Absolutely!" Faith squealed excitedly. I wondered why the hell she was always trying to please Cora. "Oh, okay." Ensley nodded. "I'll catch up with you later, we have to have lunch." Ensley rubbed her stomach, "I'm starving." *** The school bell rang for the close of the day. Everyone in our class, including Ensley and I, began walking to our classroom. We couldn't dare to miss going to class according to Mrs Day. She had asked to see us again and no one ever dared to go against her words; she was the most respected teacher in school. "We still haven't found a group to merge with!" Faith said nervously. "Well, whatever." Cora waved a hand dismissively. The same was for Ensley and me. We hadn't found a group to merge with because we didn't bother to find one. "I hope Mrs Day doesn't get mad at us." Ensley heaved a sigh. "She won't." I tried to sound convincing. We had our seats beside each other. After everyone had had their seats, Julian and stupid Jax strolled into the classroom then had their seats at the back of the class. After a few minutes, Mrs Day scurried in. "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting." She apologized, sat on the teacher's table with a wide smile on. "Now, let's get to business. If you've merged into a group, please come out group by group so I can write your names as One group. Four people walked out from different angles then she wrote their names, said words to them which they took note of then they left. Just as they had done, other people walked out too then left. "So, you didn't find a group to merge with?" She said to us who remained seated in the classroom. I looked behind me. We had the Gravely twin sisters, Faith and Cora, and Julian and Jax! Ew! "Sadly, yes." Ensley spoke up. "It's perfect then. We're left with four groups so I'll merge you into two." My eyes popped out and I watched how Cora's face lit with a smirk. "You all should step forward." She smiled at us. As instructed, we all walked to the front of the class. Oh no! We were either going to be paired with Cora, the extremely stupid Mary and Molly Gravely (no offense, they were just so dumb). The worst of all was going to be with Jax. I gulped audibly. "Cora and Faith, you'll be paired with..." She placed her pen on her chin as she hummed, staring between all eight of us. "Jax's group, here we come!" Cora whispered then they both squealed. All I could do was roll my eyes at them. "...Molly and Mary Gravely." She completed her sentence "What?!" Cora and I exclaimed in unison. "That means we'll be paired with Jax and Julian?" I scrunched my face up in disgust at that. "Yes? You have a problem with that?" "Yes, Mrs Day!" I snapped. "Well, that's another reason for a group project. You'll have the chance to fix any problem you have with one another and become friends." She smiled. "No, please don't." I cried. "Yay! We'll be with the popular kid in school!" Molly and Mary wiggled their fingers together, squealing and jumping. "Mrs Day, why not Jax's team?" Cora asked with a serious frown. "It's my choice and no one can change it." She deepened her voice then wrote down things in the notebook she had with her. "You should decide a name for your group and project else I'll call you 'The Cuties' or 'Shump pus Rump Ice cream', okay?" She smirked. "Ew, what's that?" Jax scrunched his face up. "You can all leave now." She rose to her feet and proceeded to leave the class with Cora tailing behind her, pleading for her to change her mind. "This is terrible." I winced, turned to Jax and Julian. "This is great!" Julian beamed. "Yeah." Ensley sniggered. "Why'd I be in a group with you?!" I knew I was being dramatic about this but I couldn't stand being in the same group as Jax. Ew! No way! "I don't have a problem with it as long as nobody poke their nose into my business." He had his gaze fixed on me like he was directing his words to only me. "You don't? That's great! We'll meet at my house to begin with. I can't wait!" Ensley squeaked. This had just gone from bad to worse. It meant I was going to spend time with Jax! *** A/N: I'm sorry for not updating this book for a while but this book is back on daily updates! Cheers!?
