1: The Alpha’s Daughter
Maria’s POV My name is Maria Sánchez, and I am heiress to the Emerald Moon Pack. We’re an average size pack of wolves, but we have some of the strongest warriors and many allies. Our pack used to be called Midnight Moon Pack, but my dad, Alpha Julio Sánchez, changed it after he met my mom, and his mate, Lucy. Her vibrant green eyes shine like an emerald and my dad thought the pack should be named after it’s Luna. It’s sweet and all, but to me, it’s a bit much. Though I guess I can’t fully blame my dad. My mom is 5 foot 10 with thick, curly black hair cascading down her back. Her perfect, porcelain complexion stands out against my dad’s tan skin. My mom has the most perfect and sweet smile and is almost always wearing it. She prefers peace over violence, as much is allowed in our world. My dad, however, is a brute. Though he does has a soft spot for my grandmother (his mom), my mom and myself. He’s a great leader, and while he doesn’t hesitate to jump head first into a fight, he’s always prepared to listen. My dad is 6 foot 4 and pretty much all muscle. He’s an alpha, so it makes sense. As I stated before, he’s darker than my mom, but he too has jet black wavy hair that he keeps cut short. I basically look like a clone of my mom except I only made it to 5 foot 6, my eyes change from brown to green, a mix of both parents, and I tan like my dad. I have no siblings, though I’ve always wished for some. My parents struggled to have me and it just wasn’t in the cards to have more. My parents are completely in love though. I can promise, I’m not the only child from lack of trying. I’m probably the most loved kid in the world, but I do tire of unexpectedly finding my parents in the middle of “loving” just anywhere in our pack house. They have no shame! I just hope to one day have a love like theirs! I dream of my mate every day. I often wonder what he will look like, act and smell like. Mates are often of our own kind: werewolves. However, I don’t mind if my mate is human. Most werewolf women are only attracted to the hulking, bulking, massive men that are typically what werewolf men are. I focus more on the actions of others though. I’ve seen some mates, both male and female alike, mistreat their other half. I feel one must be truly miserable with their own life to do so. A mate is a precious gift and once you feel the mate bond it is difficult to fight. I’ve always been told that once you smell your mate, and it’s an intoxicating unique sent only you can smell on them, and then you both make eye contact; it’s as if you’re being pulled to them. It’s an invisible force, or magnet if you will. Most mates mark one another within hours of meeting, regardless of whether they know one another or not. Sometimes an older wolf may sense their mate is a wolf underage and must wait. We get our wolfs when we are 16 but we are unable to find our mates until we reach 18. Some wolves never find their mates and sometimes take a chosen mate. My parents love to reminisce on the moment they found one another. My dad was being forced by grandpa, former Alpha of our pack, to attend a meeting with some of our allied packs. Our pack was hosting and my dad was in training to become the next alpha. Dad talks of being bored and even whining to grandpa how much he wanted to leave and hang out with his friends, but grandpa wouldn’t hear of it. Leaders and higher rankled wolves from four of our allied packs arrived that day. Mom’s was the last to venture in. When dad tells this story he begins with how boring the polite conversations were before business began. Then, as dad recalls, the most alluring scent of citrus lemon hit his nostrils. Dad looked straight to the open door of the conference room at the exact moment my mother was entering. Their eye met and the rest is history. My dad was rising alpha of our pack and my mom was the daughter of the Beta of Twilight Pack, our most valued ally. Both families were ecstatic at this news. Both my parents were 18 at the time. In fact both of their birthdays are the same day. February 4th. They were both excused from the meeting to get to know one another, and before the meeting ended, they were both marked and mated fully. Mom stayed back with dads pack with plans of her parents returning with her possessions within the week, and both her parents would be staying for a few days. My mother’s parents left, a bit sad, but overjoyed for their only child. But my maternal grandparents never returned home, and my mom never got to see them again. Their vehicle had been run off the road by a bigger truck and the impact did so much damage that even their wolves were unable to heal them. So I never got to meet them. But my mom often tells me stories of them so I feel like I’m connected in some way. My paternal grandparents are still very much alive and a huge part of our lives. Of course being their only grandchild, I’m spoiled by them as well. My dad is an only child, like my mom, so I expect to only have one child one day. Many werewolf families have many children. It’s very common within our communities because werewolves are very primal, loving creatures. I would love to have a house full of children. Four or more. I guess that will be a discussion I’ll have one day with my mate. I’m getting ready to walk into my home, hoping my mom has some chocolate chip cookies baked. They are my absolute favorite. She always fixes them if I’m feeling down and often as a surprise for after school. I can be having a bad day, and the minute that sweet chocolate chip aroma feels me; I tend to feel calmer. I open the front door of my home and before I can call for my mom, I hear her scream.
