Chapter 19 The football field and the high school and everything else looked strange enough to be unrecognizable to Laura’s eyes as she leaned against her little car the next morning. The weather had changed dramatically, for one thing. The clear blue autumn sky had disappeared, taking on the same heavy, wet cast as the fog swirling around the night before. No, that wasn’t quite right. The wispy fog had been playful, mischievous, hiding and revealing landmarks and even people as it pleased. This sky hung low overhead, clouds dark gray and overstuffed.
