Caleb didn't answer right away. Inside his head, Max stirred. 'She's everything for us.' 'I know,' Caleb replied. Out loud, he said, "Yeah. She is." Jade smiled. "You're different around her." "Different how?" "Less guarded," Jade said. "More… human." Caleb let out a short laugh. "Ironic." "Isn't it?" Jade grinned. They reached the church a few minutes later. It was a small building, warm and inviting, with wreaths on every window and garlands strung along the doorway. Light spilled from inside, and the sound of laughter and clinking dishes drifted out. They stepped inside. The main hall had been converted into a makeshift kitchen and dining area. Long tables were set up, covered with red and green tablecloths. People were everywhere.
