Mason Nighthowl 2 of 2

While the two are eating, Mason cannot help but wonder why the room seems so empty. “May I ask why your room is so empty?” Mason asked.   Farah looked at him first before she looked around her room. “This is not really where I lived. We’re just here for the queen.”Farah said, and it caught Mason’s attention. “Renata? What about Renata?”He asked. “We were called here to create her dresses for the King’s birthday.”Farah said.   Mason looked down. “So she didn’t even realize that it wasn’t me all this time.”Mason muttered, and then he looked at Farah. “What is she like now? Is there a prince or a princess already?”He asked. “Well, as far as I know there’s still no prince or a princess in the palace. And she looks well and really beautiful. One of the most beautiful women I have seen.”Farah said, and Mason smiled. “That’s true. She’s really beautiful, it’s one of the reasons I fell in love with her aside from being kind and smart.”He paused. “Despite that she’s always have been jealous of Princess Jimena. I cannot blame her though since I once sought her hand in marriage.”Mason said with that wistful smile on his face. “The twins did mention that too. You were once a suitor of the late princess.” “Twins?” “My boss, the Baronesses Myriam and Mylene Grayson.”Farah said, and Mason furrowed his eyebrows. “Grayson? From Aragon? You’re a human from Aragon?”Mason asked. “Yeah why?” “I-I thought you are from here in Nighthowl.”Mason paused and sniffed Farah, who looked horrified. “What are you doing?” “You have a faint scent of a Nighthowler, also a very, very faint scent of an Ashworthian.”Mason said. “I’ve been here in this Kingdom for a week or more, maybe that’s why I smelled like your people. But Ashworthian? That’s impossible. I haven’t been to Ashworth.”Farah said.    Mason sniffed her again, and then his eyes turned red. “You smell like Devin?”Mason lowly growled. “Well we were dancing earlier, that’s why his scent rubbed on me. He’s actually really nice to me ever since I arrived.”Farah said.   Mason wanted to growl, he felt angry all of the sudden. He’s pissed that his Beta’s scent is on her. He shook his head to dispel such emotion. “You’re pretty close to my beta. Are you his mate?”Mason asked, and Farah’s eyes widened. “What? No! We’re just friends. Besides I need to go back to Aragon in a few days. I still have school.”Farah told him. “School? Exactly how old are you?” “18.”Farah answered, and it was Mason’s turn for his eyes to widen. “What? 18? Damn, thanks for making me feel so old.”Mason said, and Farah chuckled. “If it makes you feel any better, Duke Lucca is our teacher.”Farah said between giggles. “Lucca? You know him? The last time I saw him when he asks to buy a piece of land at the back of the mountain range of this kingdom. That day was also the day I found myself imprisoned in that place. And Lucca, how the heck did he become a teacher? What the hell is he doing these past years?”Mason said. “Yes I know him. His sister is a friend of mine. He just showed up in school as a teacher.”Farah paused. “Devin said he’s married to the princess.”She asked and Mason nodded. “He’s the lucky bastard that Jimena chose. I wonder if Jimena already awaken?” “What do you mean by awaken?”Farah asked. “Jimena Aragon was not dead. She did not die in the assassination. She’s just asleep, that’s what Lucca told me before in his last visit.”Mason told her.   Farah thought for a second before she snapped her fingers. “Now I know why the serial killer is targeting the council. What if the serial killer is the princess?!”Farah exclaimed.   Mason looked at her with confused look. “What are you talking about?”He asked.    Farah sighed and then she began telling Mason what happened for the past years, and the current situation in Aragon, the serial killings. When she was done, Mason looked at her before he chuckled. “That’s Jimena alright. The symbol you said was found next to victims, it’s the symbol Jimena used in reference to her being a hybrid, a crossbreed.”Mason said, and Farah’s mouth formed an ‘O’. “Wow. So all this time she was alive and now she’s out for revenge.”Farah muttered. “That woman is very powerful; Horace and the council don’t stand a chance against her.”Mason said.   They fell in silence and they put the mugs on the side table. “Can you tell me how you end up in that place? And how come no one noticed that it was not you sitting on the throne?”Farah asked.    Mason sighed and stood up, and then he began pacing back and forth. “All I remember was I was walking in the garden after the meeting I had with Lucca. And then something hit the back of my head and then I lost consciousness.”Mason paused. “When I woke up I was inside that cell, and my brother was looking at me from outside. He was laughing at me, mocking me.”Mason added, with his fist clenched into a ball. “I don’t understand how are you twins and yet no one knew.”Farah said. “In alpha families, especially the royal family of lycanthrope kingdom, it’s forbidden to have twins.”Mason said. “Why is it forbidden? Isn’t that considered as double blessings?”Farah asked. “To alpha families, having twins means conflict of power. The same goes with the betas. So my parents shipped Marlon to the farthest island in the Kingdom. “Mason explained. “That’s very unfair.”Farah said. “I know, but its a thousand year old rule. I tried to amend it so Marlon can live here with us. But the Wolven Council is against it. Then this happened.”Mason said. “Who knows about you having a twin brother?”Farah asked. “The council and the Beta family. It’s a very big secret.”Mason answered.   Farah stood up. “How come no one noticed that it was not you? Don’t you guys have a distinct smell or whatever you wolves call it?”Farah asked again.   Mason looked at Farah as if he realized something. “You know what, you are correct. Wolves have a distinct smell that’s why we can track people, and identify a person. Then how are they not suspicious of him? Even as twins we have different scent and aura.”Mason said.   The two of them looked at each other. “You know what your majesty, I have a feeling that your brother didn’t work alone on this.”Farah said, and Mason nodded. “I have a feeling to.”Mason paused and ran his fingers through his hair. “I need your help, please.” How can I possibly help you, when I’m just a human?”Farah asked. “Exactly. You are a human that no one will suspect you.”   Farah looked at his eyes. He looked rather hopeful, so who is she to turn him away. Farah sighed. “What can I help you with? I can’t talk to the Queen or get you evidence against your brother.”She asked rumbling.   Mason held her arms. “Relax. You won’t do such thing. I just need you to do something simple.”Mason cooed. “What is it?”   “I need to talk Devin. “
