Prologue
From the writings of Jakob of Düsseldorf, chronicler for the Livonian Order, Anno Domini 1325.
War: a way of life for the pagan infidels of these lands of dark forests. The lands of Lithuania has always been a bloody ground for the people who worship false gods and demons. Yet our holy knights of the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem and of my Livonian Order fight against these unrepentant idol worshipers. Yet these pagans have allies, not just the Poles, who see our holy warriors as a threat to their own plans, but rumors of something else, demonic, evil in the eyes of the Holy Church in Rome. The sinful Lithuaians call them 'Vilkolakis', yet we know these monsters as Werewolves; demonic beings who transform into wolves through their dark pact with Satan himself.
The pagans claim these monsters as heroes, showing how sinful they are, for they cheer when these monsters kill our knightly brothers in their unholy ambushes. these shapeshifters clad themselves as men, yet they turn into their monstrous true selves, wolflike beings that walk on two legs. they sometimes even change to look like normal wolves, yet larger than a true wolf, almost the size of a knight's charger.
It is by the ruling of his Holiness, Pope John XXII , that these monsters are to be brought down, wiped out from this mortal world and sent to hell. Those that protect them will burn in the depths of hell!
Yet these werewolves are not the only unholy thing that walks in the Baltic Lands; rumors of something, a new type of hellish being from the southeastern Balkans, driven into the rest of Christendom by the Mongols and the Plague. monsters who lead armies of the unread, who act like nobles and enslave many as their thralls or servants. But most evil of all, they are said to drink the blood of mortal men, in defiance of God's law. They are known through out Eastern Europle by one terrifying name...
Vampire.
