I felt as if the entire room was spinning. My palms were sweaty, my head was beginning to pound, there were butterflies in my stomach, I was afraid of being rejected, and I missed my family back home. Standing in the room surrounded by the King's guards was extremely nerve-racking as well. I was sure if I made one bad move that they'd slice my head completely off. He stood a few feet away from me yet he looks extremely confused, shocked, afraid, and relieved.
He seemed to be extremely healthy despite me worrying about him being ill or dead. He looked as if he was preparing for something important as he wore his crown proudly. It glistened as the sunlight from the tall glass windows shined brightly. He was on the tall side and had the brownest skin that seemed well taken care of. There was a beautiful woman who stood behind him patiently as she held his blazer jacket for him.
I cleared my throat. "I am sorry to intrude. It seems as if I interrupted something."
"Your Majesty?" One of the guards called out. He moved closer to the both of us yet his attention was directly on the king. "She was at the border. She claims to be Princess Raine."
"Where did you come from?" The King asked. He had an extremely deep voice that held so much authority.
"New York." I answered.
He stared at me longer for a few minutes and no one else in the room bothered to speak. They only looked at the both of us in confusion and shock. I could see the woman behind him take a few steps forward until she stood next to him. He looked down at her as she gave him a soft smile.
"To be fair." She started. "She does look exactly like..."
"Her Mother." He finished. "She looks exactly like Victoria."
"She does." She said before backing away from him.
He moved closer to me and I refused to make eye contact with the man. He stared at me with furrowed eyebrows and curiosity. "Shape shifting is a common ability that has been shown throughout this kingdom."
"What?" I asked.
"The King has not asked for you to speak. You are to remain silent until asked to speak." The guard demanded.
"Absolutely not!" I exclaimed. I could hear a few people gasp at my response but King William did not do anything except stand there with a raised eyebrow. The Guard walked forward making sure to show his weapon.
"Are you asking for a death sentence? Keep your mouth shut!" He hissed.
"You or anyone else will never silence me!" I growled. As soon as the sentence left my mouth, I could see the lightning decorate the sky. King William turned faced the window before looking back at me with amazement.
He nodded his head. "She's mine!"
"What?" The guard asked.
"She has her mother's looks but my attitude." He revealed. "I knew she was my daughter the moment she walked in that door. I could feel her."
"My Goodness." The woman behind him said as she covered her mouth.
King William held his arms out and I ran into them. He hugged my tightly as he sniffed. "I thought I had lost you forever. I never gave up on searching for you."
"I know." I whispered.
"We must rejoice!" He exclaimed. "Janet, cancel the meeting! Be sure to gather everyone in the kingdom!"
The woman nodded her head before leaving the room. "Guards! Lead Raine towards her chambers and get her ladies in waiting to attend to her needs! We must celebrate!"
I didn't get the chance to say anything else as the room went hectic. I was dragged away from my father as he was dragged elsewhere. I followed the guards all around the gigantic castle until we stood in front of two huge cream colored doors with gold knobs. The guard smiled at me softly before pushing the doors open and my mouth dropped.
The room was huge that it looked to be an apartment. There was a huge golden chandelier that hung from the ceiling, a huge bed in the middle of the room, huge windows, a beautiful balcony that had flowers surrounding it as decorations, on one side of the room was a huge bathroom that included a shower, a bath tub, a gigantic sink, and the other side of the room held a beautiful vanity and closet.
"We must prepare you quickly, Your Highness!" A woman said. I turned around to see a girl who looked to be around my age. Two more girls appeared in the room but they didn't say anything. They bowed and immediately ran towards the bathroom.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"My name is Jade and those two in there are Lauren and Jean." She revealed. "We are here to help you."
"Thank you but I know how to dress myself." I stated.
"Oh no! We insist!" She said as she pushed me to the bathroom. "It is an honor to meet you!"
"It is nice to meet you all as well." I replied.
From there, I was thrown in the bathroom and had to beg them to leave and let me do my hygiene thing alone. Afterwards, I was thrown in front of the vanity where they did my hair and makeup which was followed by me putting on a beautiful fancy dress and a pair of heels. I stared at my reflection in the mirror in shock. The dress was tight fitted which they revealed was no supposed to be but it happens considering that they didn't know my actual size. It was tight and red yet it didn't show too much cleavage.
"I truly look like royalty." I said to myself.
"You must be out front now." Jane announced.
"The King awaits your arrival!" Lauren finished. I followed behind them quietly. I could hear the sound of the crowd screaming in excitement which made me extremely nervous. My Dad stood in front of the two huge doors wearing a black suit with a red tie. Each of the ladies bowed their heads at the both of us before turning away.
"Don't be nervous! They're only excited." He reassured.
"That's easier said than done." I replied. He gave me a soft smile before opening the black box that sat on the table behind him. He pulled out a beautiful tiara which made me gasp at the sight of it.
"This tiara is made of crystals and gold. It was supposed to be yours on your sixteenth birthday. I'd be honored if you wore it tonight for the festivities." He said.
"Of course!"
He placed the tiara on my head before smiling at my softly. "Your mother would be so proud and happy. I just wish she were here to witness this moment."
I grabbed his hand and smiled. "She is."
He nodded his head before walking us closer to the door. Two guards opened the doors as he let go of my hand and made his grand entrance. The crowd went wild at the appearance of the king. I watched as he confidently waved to them all which only caused them to excitedly yell louder.
"People of Runne." He addressed. "Today, we were honored with the presence of someone dear to us all. Years ago, this kingdom lost their future Queen. However, that night, I lost my daughter, my wife, and a part of me. We've honored Queen Victoria's bravery by building the statue in honor of her. We've celebrated many birthdays of the lost princess and never stopped hoping and searching for her. I am beyond excited, happy, ecstatic, honored, and relieved to announce that Princess Raine has returned!"
As soon as the words left his lips, the crowd screamed in happiness. He turned around and held his hand out towards me. I took a deep breath and took a step forward as I placed my hand in his. He gave me a reassuring look as I walked further and further onto the balcony until I could see every single person who stood outside the palace.
"Welcome Home." He whispered as I stood there and watched the incredibly large crowd scream in disbelief and happiness. With my enhanced abilities, I could see and hear people crying tears of joy. I stood on the balcony and waved to everyone before being dragged away by my father. We entered the palace through the balcony again as the door closed. I could hear the sounds of fireworks going off.
"I'll let you go back and enjoy everything but I need you to meet Hope." My father stated. He walked my over to an older woman who stood there patiently with a smile on her face. She had a few wrinkles but didn't look too old whatsoever.
"I am honored to finally meet you, your highness!" She greeted as she went into a curtsy. I smiled softly at her.
"Hello."
"Is it okay if I grab your hands? It will be able to show me your abilities." She asked as I nodded. She grabbed my hands and closed her eyes. I watched as the soft smile that she wore slowly changed into a frown. Her face showcased concentration but once her eyes opened I could only see one thing and that was fear.
"What's wrong?" My dad asked as he grabbed my arm and pulled me near him.
Hope shook her head. "Your Majesty? The Princess has many powers. One of her strongest being weather control. She can create any type of storms with the right training and control. She has telekinesis as well."
"What's the problem?" He asked.
She sighed heavily. "Princess Raine is destruction alone. She could cause our country so much damage that we would never be able to overcome it. If she gets set off too bad then she could cause this world destruction and end it all."
"How is this possible?" I asked as I stepped forward.
"You can control the earth and all of the elements alone. If you get too angry without controlling the powers from weather manipulation then you could cause the entire world to end by floods. You can heal quickly, you can read minds, invisibility, create force fields, and possess any person mutant or not. However, you are in no way immortal."
"Immortal?" My father asked. "Plenty of us aren't immortal."
"Yes but there's a part of Melvin that lives within her. As long as the part is within her then she is not invincible."
"She's powerful though." The King said. "What can kill her?"
"Melvin." She revealed. "He might be gone but he's not dead. As long as her heart continues to beat, he will return and will finish where he left off. He will not die until she kills him."
"There's only one way for me to get rid of the part of him that exists within me." I whispered. She gave me a sad smile.
"Death." My father mumbled.
Hope nodded her head. "It is the only way."
"It would kill me. I'm not immortal at all. I could have been but it all changed that night." I revealed.
"That shield that your mother used only backfired and it left a part of him in you. He'd have to be the one to change this but the damage could be so bad that you'd die." She revealed.
"Regardless, I am destined to die."
She sighed heavily. "You truly are the cursed child."
