Chapter Eight

"Your Majesty!" I heard one of the guards yell. "The barrier is down!"  "What?" He asked.  "We are no longer protected. It seems that the force field exploded?" He replied yet it sounded more like a question.  "This is impossible." I heard my father say. "This force field has been up for generations. It shouldn't just explode like that!"  "With all do respect sir, we've never expected something like this to happen. It just crumbled away until it didn't exist any longer."  "The Princess has just returned. Your future Queen and my daughter is in danger. With the force field no longer protecting us, this allows anything to enter this country."  "My King!" I heard another voice yell except it was a woman this time, "You are needed at the gates!"  I listened to the sounds of their footsteps trailing down the hall until I couldn't hear them any longer. Standing up, I walked over to the door and opened it. There were people standing everywhere obviously chatting about the current events. I marched down the hallway ignoring the looks from everyone. I walked down the huge stairs as everyone ran around the place with panic written across their faces.  "Where are you going?" Lauren asked. I turned towards my lady in waiting before giving her a soft smile.  "Towards the kitchen. The staff is obviously too busy so I thought I'd grab me something to drink." I replied as I entered the kitchen.  Lauren ran behind me. "I'll fix you something, your highness!"  "I got it."  "I just don't think it is safe for you to be walking around here with the barrier no longer being there to protect you." She said as she looked down at the ground.  I sighed. "I do not need any protection."  "I'm sure you don't but it is extremely important that you have it. You are the future."  "You!" I heard another voice exclaim as the kitchen door slammed open. I stood there and rolled my eyes as Carter stomped towards me. Grabbing my shoulder, she turned me faced her and touched my face. "What did you do?"  I dropped the glass cup onto the floor causing it to shatter across the floor. "I have no idea what you're talking about!"  "Let her go, Carter!" Rayne said as she entered the kitchen panting.  "Don't tell me what to do!"  "You're being stupid!" Rayne yelled.  "What are you blaming me for?" I asked.  "I just find it suspicious how everyone in this f*****g kingdom is panicking yet you're moving around as if nothing is happening. The barrier was to protect your kingdom but you need it the most!" Carter exclaimed.  "Are you scared?"  "I'm immortal. I've experienced much more than you have in your entire pathetic life. Do not get reckless or too far ahead of yourself." She shot back.  "I suggest you close that mouth of yours then. It'll be odd if something happened to you." Carter stopped in her tracks before looking at me over her shoulders as Rayne grabbed my arm.  "Did you just threaten me?" Carter asked.  "Journee, I don't think you should do this." Rayne whispered in my ear. "She's a God and the daughter of Zeus! You are not immortal. She could kill you with the snap of her fingers."  "Did you just threaten me!" Carter yelled.  I smirked. "Take it however you want. I refuse to waste anymore of my time arguing with a brick wall."  Carter balled up her fists as I could see sparks of lightning appearing at the end of her fingertips. Rayne covered her face before jumping between the both of us. "You two are being stupid!"  "She really wants to challenge me." Carter said. "She's a sorry excuse of a future Queen and she will be the downfall of her entire f*****g kingdom! Do you not realize that you are a mortal human trying to go up against a Goddess? I won't die, I won't even bleed!"  "You want to talk about me? You're the sorry excuse for a Queen or are we going to pretend that you didn't spend majority of your time running from your problems? You have your own kingdom to rule yet you're in my business."  "Goddammit." Rayne mumbled.  "How do you know about me?" She asked.  "That's for you to not worry about but I hope you know that you're pathetic and weak." I shot back. "Daughter of Zeus or not, I cannot wait for the day that Melanie rules."  Carter raised an eyebrow at me before using her teleporting abilities to come closer towards me. She grabbed me by my neck as Rayne gasped. I stared at the ground in shock as she raised me in the air. "Do not dare speak of me, my father, or Melanie again! Do you understand?"  Wrapping my legs around her, I wrapped my arms around her neck and snapped it causing Lauren to gasp loudly and run out of the kitchen. Carter dropped let go of my neck as I dropped the the ground gasping for air. Rayne stared at Carter as she turned her head back around. She charged towards me and I stood up quickly. I threw my fist towards her as she grabbed it and smirked while trying to twist it. Before she could break my wrist, I kicked my leg up causing her to fall back. She stood up quickly and punched me in the face.  "Now that had to hurt." Rayne whispered as she sat on the counter.  I stood there as I could hear the thunder rumble knowing I was the one causing it. We continued to throw punches at one another up until I was covered in bruises and scratches. Carter stood a few inches away as I watched her form two lightning bolts.  "Carter! No!" Rayne exclaimed but it was too late.  Carter launched both of the lightning bolts towards me as I closed my eyes and held my hands up. I opened them slowly to see that my telekinesis abilities had made their entrance once again. I stared at the two lightning bolts as they floated mid air in front of me. Carter stared at me and the lightning bolts in shock as I smirked. I pushed my hands forward causing one of the bolts to shoot back at Carter. It shot directly in her arm causing her to gasp and grab the arm. I looked at it to see that blood was dripping which made all of us stare at the bloody arm in shock.  "She's bleeding." Rayne whispered.  I put my other arm down as the second bolt shot towards her. Gasping, I pointed at her trying to catch her attention. "Carter, watch out!" I yelled. I felt my feet dragging me towards her and I closed my eye preparing for the impact. Suddenly, it was quiet. I didn't hear anything besides the sounds of my beating heart. I opened my eyes to see that a purple force field had engulfed us three and the second lightning bolt that I had sent her way was lying on the floor. I sighed in relief as the force field disappeared.  Rayne backed away from the both of us. "You're bleeding."  Carter stared at her arm. "I'm not supposed to bleed."  "Could it be that you being in this dimension is making you mortal?" I asked.  "There you are!" I heard a voice say. We turned around to see Hope standing in the doorway weakly. "I need all three of you to come with me!"  We quickly exited the kitchen and followed Hope as she limped towards my father's office. I stepped in and closed the door behind us. She reached into the desk and grabbed a few bandages and a first aid kit for Carter. Carter grabbed it and didn't say a word as she sat in the empty chair and began to patch her wound. Hope stared at the three of us in silence.  "What is this?" Rayne asked.  "I've been doing research on you both since I was told the news that the Princess had twin sisters. I've spent the past few hours doing much research on where you both come from. I've only managed to get something on Rayne. I know that I haven't been able to get anything on Carter because she's from another dimension." Hope revealed.  "How am I bleeding?" Carter asked. "Is she turning mortal?" Rayne asked. Hope shook her head. "I don't think so. If she was becoming mortal then she'd be also glitching. Have you showed any signs of glitching?" She asked.   "No."  "Why would she glitch?"  "Glitching means that she's becoming mortal in this dimension which will be followed by death since she doesn't belong her. However, she's still immortal. If she wasn't immortal then she'd glitch."  "This still doesn't explain the bleeding."  Hope sighed heavily before leaning against the desk. "This will sound confusing but..." she trailed off.  "But what?" Rayne asked.  "Say it!" Carter demanded.  "I believe that you three are the only ones who can harm one another. You're bleeding because it came from Princess Raine. If anyone else did it then you probably wouldn't have bled so much." She revealed. I sat in the chair as I felt my body temperature rising again. I gasped for air lowly and squeezed the arms of the chair as the three of them chatted away. Rayne shook her head in disbelief as Carter rolled her eyes.  "She can die at any given moment!" Carter exclaimed as she pointed at me.  "Yes! Because of the curse." Hope stated. "They're keeping her protected because she is cursed and the man who did this could be back any day to finish where he left off. She's destined to die yet she's mortal and she can physically harm a Goddess. She's powerful."  "She went from not knowing how to use her powers to knowing how to use them quite well." Rayne revealed. "She even said things that were harsh! Something isn't right. I may not have known Journee long but I know she wouldn't dare say some of the things she said."  Hope sighed. "There's a part of him that lives within her so that might have been a reason." She said before trailing off. "However, she was told to not embrace the dark side."  "What?" Carter asked.  "Your Highness?" Hope called out as she walked over towards me slowly. I kept my head down the entire time.  "Raine?" Carter said. "Look at me."  My head began to rise slowly as they watched me with anticipation. I looked at the three of them as Rayne and Hope gasped. Carter just stood there and stared. Hope placed her hands over her mouth.  "This isn't good." She mumbled.  "Her eyes are red, Hope." Rayne said. "What the hell does this mean?" "She did the one thing she was told not to do."  "Which is?" Rayne asked. "She embraced the dark side." Carter revealed.
