Allison's pov:             I could feel a soft bed under me and a hand holding my hand, but I couldn't open my eyes. I'm not dead? I'm not dead! I couldn't believe it, perhaps the King found me before it was too late. But why can't I open my eyes? They felt like lead and my throat was scratchy, like I needed water. How long was I out for? I needed whoever was holding my hand, most likely King Nicholai as I was feeling tingles all over it, to know I was awake. So I put all my strength into moving my hand, but all I was able to do was move a few fingers. I guess it worked as I heard the King's voice. "My dearest Allison, please open those beautiful eyes of yours." His voice was soft and soothing and I could feel his other hand starting to stroke my cheek. I focused hard on opening my eyes and at first it was just a flutter of my eyes. But he kept encouraging me with soothing words and I tried again. I was finally able to open my eyes and the sight that greeted me was not disappointing.              The King was looking down at me with such a soft and caring look, but I could tell his eyes were still filled with worry. "Hello beautiful. You are finally awake. I have been so worried." How long was I out for and why am I still alive? I had so many questions, but first I needed water. My throat was so dry. "Water." I croaked out to him. He frowned at me and reached over to the cup that was sitting by my bed. He put the straw in my mouth and I sucked water onto my dry tongue. It was refreshing. I wanted a lot more, but the King stopped me. "Not too much my love."  He let me have another sip and put the cup down. I had so many questions. How was I alive? Where is Prince Stefan? Is Rachel alright? Oh God, Rachel! "How is Rachel? Is she alright?" "Yes, Rachel is fine. We got here in time to heal her. She had a broken rib and a bad gash to the head, but she is fine now." "Thank God, she is alright. What about your brother, did you catch him?" He shook his head, his face got hard and his eyes were becoming cold. "No, my brother was gone when I got here. I had my guards search for him, but he must of known we were coming and left in a hurry." "He said he had a spy in the castle and he contacted your brother and told him you were on your way here." I informed the King. "That does not surprise me, but I will have to find this spy and destroy him." He was getting angry, so I decided to change topics.             "How did you figure out where we were?" I asked him. "The note he left me. He spoke about our parents and it was odd for him. I assumed this is where he took you. I'm glad that I was right, another hour and I would have been too late." He grabbed my hand and held it in his own, caressing my knuckles with his thumb. "I almost lost you. I as so sorry I failed you. I didn't protect you and I will never forgive myself for that." How could he think he failed me? He found me and saved me. "You did not fail me. I am alive because of you."  He gave me a sad smile and gently kissed my lips. I tried to chase his mouth with my own when I felt a sharp pain on my side. "Ouch! Why am I still not fully healed?" He sighed and sat back down in his chair. "My blood only kept you alive, it did not heal you completely like it should have done. I don't know if it's because of you being a half breed..." He seemed to register what he said and looked at me with wide eyes. "I already know, your brother told me. He also said something else as well. That I was your mate? Is that true?"             I could hear him suck in a breath as he pondered what to say. "Yes, it is true. We are mates, though I am still trying to figure it all out. That's why I was going to visit your mother and former master." He noticed my eyes were getting heavy. "You need to rest my love. We need to get back to the castle as my brother is still out there somewhere. You will not be safe until he is found. Once you have regained your strength and finish healing, we will leave." He then bent down and kissed my forehead and left out of the door. I was still very tired and sore, so I took his advice and closed my eyes. Sleep came to me almost immediately.             King Nicholai's pov:             I needed to question Rachel about her involvement with kidnapping my mate. I hated leaving Allison, but she needed to rest.  Seeing Allison like that was killing me inside, but seeing her almost dead was much worse. I can't believe how close I was to losing her.             -Flashback-             As we entered my parent's winter castle, I sent the guards to search the place. I was hoping that we went to the right place. I had a feeling that my mate was here. I just didn't want to be too late. I heard one of my guards yell that they found the humans, so with my vampire speed I ran to where I heard the guard shouting for me. As I entered the room , I saw my mate lying on the floor close to death. I immediately ran to her and tried to feed her my blood. My blood worked on keeping her alive, but not on healing her wounds. I was confused, but I just held her in my arms. Thankful that she was alive.  I turned towards the guard. "Where is my brother?" "He has not been found, your Majesty. We have searched every room. He must have left before we came." "Find him! Search everywhere, he must be found!" He bowed and then left. As I was holding Allison on the floor, I heard a noise coming from behind me. I turned and looked and there was Rachel, half covered by a bookshelf. I got up and pushed the shelf off of her and quickly fed her my blood to heal her. I told the guard who was standing outside the door to carry Rachel and take her to a room, but not to let her leave as I needed to question her. I then went to my beloved Allison and carried her into another room so she could heal and be comfortable.             -End Flashback-             I was interrupted from my thoughts as I had approached Rachel's room. The guard bowed to me as I entered the room. "Leave us." I commanded the guard. He bowed and left. I turned to Rachel and she was looking at me with fear in her eyes. "Rachel, I am going to ask you some questions. Don't you dare try to lie to me, as I will know if you do." I sternly said to her. "Of course, your Majesty." "I want to know what your involvement was with the kidnapping of my mate?" She looked down briefly and then when her eyes met mine I could see she was close to tears. "I am so sorry, my King. Your brother made me help him. He told me to get close to her; to gain her trust. He made me go to her room that morning, he put chloroform on a rag and made me use it on her. I am so sorry." She was a crying mess by the time she finished her statement. I was angry, but I knew that she didn't have a choice. "What happened here? When I found you two, you were beaten badly." "He knew you were coming. He has a spy in the castle and once he knew you were on your way here, he went crazy. He attacked Allison and was trying to kill her. I stepped in front of her. I tried to protect her, Sir, but he attacked me as well." She tried to protect my mate? Thanks to her protection Allison is still alive. "Where is my brother?" "I don't know. He left while I was unconscious, I am so sorry. How is Allison, may I see her?" "Allison is still healing, she is resting right now. You may see her later, only with me in the room with you. I still don't fully trust you yet, but thank you for trying to protect her." I said goodbye and walked out of the door. I was on my way to find a guard to ask about my brother when I heard a scream. I stopped and when I heard it again I knew exactly who screamed.             "Allison"
